Weddings in Pakistan had become a festivity and the ever increasing guest list forbade the possibility of holding such functions at homes. This need was satisfied by Hanif Ka/put in the 1970s. Within a decade this company spread its operations in all parts of Sindh and Pakistan. Hanif rose from a humble background. Despite his lack of experience in the Hospitality Industry, he organized his operations with meticulous details expected from people with rich experience in business which Hanif lacked. Package deal taking care of food, decor and lighting was the main product which conveniently took care of all chores related to marriage functions. Serving10,000 guests with sumptuous cuisine certainly requires logistical planning which Hanif Regput performed admirably. He is the author of a New York Times best-selling biography on A Tribe Called Quest called Go Ahead in the Rain (University of Texas Press, 2019); A Fortune For Your Disaster (Tin House, 2019); The Crown Ain\u27t Worth Much (Button Poetry/Exploding Pinecone Press, 2016), which was nominated for a Hurston-Wright Legacy Award; and They Can\u27t Kill Us Until They Kill Us (Two Dollar Radio, 2017), named a best book of 2017 by NPR, Pitchfork, Oprah Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Slate, Esquire, GQ, and Publisher\u27s Weekly, among others. He is a Callaloo Creative Writing Fellow, a poetry editor at Muzzle Magazine, and a member of the poetry collective Echo Hotel with poet/essayist Eve L. Ewing. No full textSher Khan folded his jai namaz mat presented years ago by his mentor Hanif Rajput and got ready for his daily chores. He is a driver of one of the many catering vans possessed by Hanif Rajput Caterers. Putting on his jacket with HR block printed on its back he got behind the wheels and headed towards the kitchens to load the cuisine and head for the KMC Gardens where it had to be delivered for the wedding party of one of the clients.He rolled out with many other vans from the kitchen located in KMC sport complex at 7 PM. The traffic was heavy tonight however he managed to reach the DHA Gardens at 8.30 PM. He offloaded the “dhegsâ€; Mohammad Khan an old crony of his meticulously checked the contents with the Tally Card and signed the receipt. Meanwhile Sher Khan looked at the Gardens, which were cloaked with shamianas and blazing with fancy lights. It was too early for guests but there seemed a lot of hustle and bustle in the vicinity. The stage decorators were in their last phase plugging in the orchids and roses around the podium, waiters were putting the spirit lamps under the dishes and carpets were being swept. He thought of the day when his daughter got a similar wedding treat from the company five years ago, which was funded by Hanif sahib!Mohammad Khan refocused his attention by delivering the receipt, which he pocketed and looked up his next call station. He had to go to KMC Gardens and pick up the shamianas and chairs of last evening’s function and offload them at a business tycoon’s residence in Bath Island. By the time all his chores were over it was well past 2AM and Sher Khan parked his van and took the M17 coach and headed for his home in Balouch Colony

X-efficiency Analysis of Commercial Banks in Pakistan: A Preliminary Investigation
No full textThe emergence of a fast-paced dynamic environment in the business world in general, and in the financial services sector in particular, has highlighted the significance of competition and efficiency. The need for deregulation has become a touchstone of success in fostering both competition and efficiency especially in the economies, which are exposed to structural reforms. In addition to that, intense competition both among domestic and foreign banks, rapid speed of innovations and introduction of new financial instruments, changing consumer’s demands and desire for product augmentation have changed the way a bank conducts business and services its customers. Larger the degree of competition, it is perceived that the firms would become more efficient. However, when the structure of an industry is product of the government regulations, the degree of competition is impaired markedly implying that the efficiency suffers negatively. Banking industry acts as life-blood of modern trade and commerce acting as a bridge to provide a major source of financial intermediation. Thus, appraisal of its efficiency is vital in context of an efficient and competitive financial system. Study of x-efficiency is believed to be important in particular as Berger, et al. (1993) found that x-inefficiencies account for around 20 percent or more of banking costs. Similarly, recent drive among banks towards downsizing, rightsizing and rationalisation of banking costs also implicates for the assessment of x-efficiency analysis of banks. It becomes vital in Pakistani context as there appears to be no study in literature on efficiency or x-efficiency analysis of banks in Pakistan. “A great deal more work is needed on x-efficiency research in banking. Managerial efficiency, the concept of x-efficiency, appears to be a much more important strategic and policy consideration” [Molyneux, et al. (1960), p. 273]. Given
