A Minor Jurisprudence of Play: Becoming Jurisprudents Through Play in the Majora's Mask
No full textA minor jurisprudence is a productive mode of encountering video games for the purpose of describing the jurisdictional techniques exemplified in them. To give effect to a minor jurisprudence in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, the author argues that play must be seen as a critical component of finding and participating in the production of the space and time of jurisdiction: play underlies, mechanically and narratively, the production of Termina’s lawscape. A jurisprudential reading of play – particularly as the player-as-jurisprudent participates in the production of Termina’s lawscape – is made possible through the game’s virtuality and dimensionality (time, persona, and movement). The chapter concludes by situating this intervention in legal theory to help characterise a minor jurisprudence of play – aesthetically, representationally, and materially – as world-making

Jones, both of whom were severely wounded at the Battle of Cedar Key, Florida, on July 6, 1864. While Shaw had his arm amputated and later became a one-armed farmer in Georgia, Jones recovered from his wounds and established a farming livelihood in Florida, with the two soldiers never meeting again after the conflict. Nearly 144 years later, research by Bryan Shaw, a second great-grandson of Private Shaw, confirmed Lt. Jones's survival and led to a "remarkable reunion" between their descendants in 2007

After an injury during World War I training led to his discharge, Bernard initially worked at a pharmacy and briefly ventured into beekeeping. He then managed a Suwanee chain grocery store before famously quitting to open his own grocery store in 1939, which became a successful family operation known for extending credit during the Great Depression. Bernard's life was also marked by personal tragedies, including the death of his first son, Teddy, from whooping cough, and a devastating hunting accident in 1960 where he accidentally shot and blinded his only surviving son, Paul. Despite initial depression, Paul eventually adapted and helped run the store. The newsletter also highlights the prevalence of grocery and mercantile businesses among the Shaw-Allen descendants, discusses renewed family history research and upcoming family reunions, and details the recent discovery of information about Civil War veteran Lt. Joshua A. Jones, who was wounded alongside Francis Marion Shaw
