Invisible leash: Object-following robot

A KIPR Link was used as the framework, and simple mathematical relationships were derived to control the motion of the robot. The work described is meant as a proof-of-concept, not as a full-scale development. Performance of variable-orifice nozzles for liquid fertilizer applications

Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 32(3), 347-352. doi:10.13031/aea.32.11428Variable-rate application continues to gain interest among precision agriculture practitioners including the use of crop sensor technology for application of nitrogen in grain crops. For liquid fertilizers, variable-orifice nozzles are being implemented since they provide a much larger nozzle flow range compared to traditional fixed orifice nozzles. However, understanding the performance of variable-orifice nozzles under different field operating conditions has been limited. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of variable orifice nozzles in support of variable-rate application. Two common variable-orifice nozzles offered by different companies were selected for this study. They were tested over three flow ranges (0.76 to 1.89 L/min) with all tests replicated three times. A commercially available 18.6-m, wet boom sprayer equipped with 37 nozzle bodies was used. Nozzles were numbered but then randomly assigned a position along the boom. To evaluate the performance of an individual nozzle, three random nozzle locations along the spray boom were established for both sets of nozzles. Therefore, 18 tests per replication were required to include the 3 flow rates, 3 different locations, and 2 nozzle types. Once the desired flow rate test was established, tip flow was measured using SpotOn Sprayer Calibrator technology. Tip flows were recorded and statistical analyses performed to evaluate flow uniformity (CV) across the boom but also detect off-rate errors by individual nozzles and locations across the boom. With the exception of a few nozzles, the uniformity across the spray boom, as defined by the CV, was acceptable for both nozzle types over approximately a 2:1 flow range. Both nozzle types were less uniform at the low flow rate. There were three nozzles of each type that resulted in unacceptable flow errors in multiple tests. © 2016 American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers

Field-effect polymer gating of low-dimensionality carbon-based materials
The work focuses on the modification of the transport properties of low-dimensional carbon based materials by tuning their surface charge carrier density (up to values of induced charge exceeding 2·10^14 carriers/cm^2) via electrochemical gating with an innovative polymer electrolyte solution. Main subjects of the study are single- and few-layer graphene systems produced by micro-mechanical exfoliation and by CVD growth respectively. Attempts to modulate the superconducting critical temperature of the graphite intercalated compounds CaC6 are also made. Climate change and Disasters : Issues and concern of Proposed Sharda –Yamuna Link
Climate is a measure of changes in meteorological variables. Sudden changes arise due to increasing
deforestation, pollution, population, depletion of natural resources, global warming and
industrialization etc. Uneven monsoon and irregular rainfall distribution causes great variations in
climatic conditions which cause disasters; drought and flood. During monsoon season, flood
occurs in several river basins of U.P and U.K states. According to Indian Meteorological
Department, the average annual rainfall in U.P and U.K is more than other states; 100-120 cm and
120-400 cm respectively. Uttarakhand is among one of the highest rainfall states of India. Sharda
river; a tributary of river Ganga overflows many times, causes flood in surrounded regions.
Sharda-Yamuna link (S-Y) is one of the proposed links of National Perspective Plan to minimize
flood in U.P and U.K states and drought in western parts such as Haryana, Rajasthan, and
Gujarat of the country. Excess water will be transferred through S-Y link towards the drought
regions of India. Approx 11,680 m3 of surplus water is estimated to transfer from river Sharda to
river Yamuna to avoid flood in U.P and U.K states. The lining of the link passes through two
states Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The S-Y may also help in maintaining the water balance in
its Enrouted and Command regions. This paper highlights the climate change, flood and drought
disaster issues and role of proposed Sharda-Yamuna link.</jats:p
SHARDA–ARAS: A Methodology for Prioritising Project Managers in Sustainable Development
In sustainable economic development, top-level human capital, especially project management, is paramount. This article integrates the Systematic Hierarchical Attribute Ratio Delphic Rating (SHARDA) method and the Additive Ratio Rating (ARAS) method as a robust framework for identifying and training project managers. The research draws on a diverse panel of experts against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) backdrop, emphasising stakeholder engagement and transparency in the decision-making processes. This study investigates the complexity of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods and focuses on SWARA and ARAS methods. These methodologies comprehensively improve the decision-making process, considering a range of subjective criteria. The extended and modified hierarchical SWARA method helps us understand each measure’s importance, while the ARAS method simplifies ranking and selection based on performance ratios. The research methodology seamlessly integrates these methods to form the SHARDA–ARAS methodology that addresses the challenging task of selecting project managers for sustainable development. This methodology guarantees a systematic and inclusive decision-making process, incorporating stakeholder perspectives seamlessly aligned with global sustainability goals. The studio’s innovation is wrapped in the synthesis of SWARA and ARAS into the SHARDA–ARAS methodology, presenting a nuanced and effective tool for project manager selection. Promoting an interconnected and holistic approach that contributes to sustainable development emphasises the methodology’s ability to balance economic, environmental, and social aspects. Synthesis, in silico study, and anti-cancer activity of thiosemicarbazone derivatives

In this study, we have synthesized and characterized 3-Methoxybenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (3-MBTSc) and 4-Nitrobenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (4-NBTSc) using IR,1HNMR and13C NMR. The compound’s in vitro anticancer activities against different cell lines were evaluated. Molecular docking, Insilco ADMET, and drug-likeness prediction were also done. The test compounds showed a comparative IC50 and growth inhibition with the standard drug Doxorubicin. The IC50 ranges from 2.82 µg/mL to 14.25 µg/mL in 3-MBTSc and 2.80 µg/mL to 7.59 µg/mL in 4-NBTSc treated cells. The MTT assay result revealed, 3-MBTSc inhibits 50.42 and 50.31 percent of cell growth in B16-F0 and EAC cell lines, respectively. The gene expression showed that tumor suppressor genes such as PTEN and BRCA1 are significantly upregulated in 7.42 and 5.33 folds, and oncogenes, PKC, and RAS are downregulated −7.96 and −7.64 folds, respectively in treated cells. The molecular docking performed on the four targeted proteins (PARP, VEGFR-1, TGF-β1, and BRAFV600E) indicated that both 4-NBTSc and 3-MBTSc potentially bind to TGF-β1 with the best binding energy of −42.34 Kcal/mol and −32.13 Kcal/mol, respectively. In addition, the test compound possesses desirable AD-MET and drug-likeness properties. Overall, both 3-MBTSc and 4-NBTSc have the potential to be multitargeting drug candidates for further study.
