Structural study using 29 Si and 27 Al Solid State MAS NMR and compressive strength analysis of metakaolin-based geopolymer paste

    No full text
Geopolymers are hardened aluminosilicate gel that develop strength via the crosslinking of tetrahedral silicate and aluminate. Past Research has highlighted a wide range of mechanical properties of geopolymer synthesised from various aluminosilicate materials. This research focuses on studying the effect of variation in the percentages of metakaolin, sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide at a fixed water to solids ratio on the development of geopolymer structure and compressive strength. Kaolin was thermally treated and XRD and FTIR traced the changes in crystalline Kaolin and its transformation into a more disordered structure of metakaolin. Characterisation techniques were used for the study of geopolymer produced. FTIR analysis illustrated the changes in the characteristic bands of metakaolin after being activated with sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide to form geopolymer. The 27Al and 29Si Solid State MAS NMR spectra confirmed the formation of polymerised tetrahedral silicate interconnected to tetrahedral aluminate in the form of Q4(4Al) and Q4(3Al) which are responsible for the attained compressive strength of geopolymer. The produced geopolymers exhibited high early compressive strength and high 28-day compressive strength in the range of 30–81 MPa. This promotes the use of geopolymers as a replacement to Ordinary Portland cement especially in targeted construction applications. This study is part of Ph.D of author Heba Fouad and the PhD was a fellowship granted by Yousef Jameel Foundation. Also, Heba Fouad also would like to show her gratitude to Dr. Abdel Hamid Emwas and Dr. Mariusz Jaremko for conducting Solid State MAS NMR samples in KAUST Core lab

The Embedded Ideology in English and History Textbooks at the Public High Schools in Egypt

    No full text
This study is looking at textbooks as an ideological phenomenon. It uses a content analysis combined with a focus on the linguistic features of the English textbooks (ETBs) and History textbooks (TBs) officially approved and published in Egypt for the secondary stage of education. Inferences are drawn about the embedded ideology of the textbooks (TBs) under investigation by focusing on the theme selection by omission or emphasis, the linguistic devices, images, and texts. The effects of the political and socioeconomic change in Egypt on TBs content and design are highlighted and matched against the objectives of teaching both English and History there. The findings of this study show that Neoliberalism dominates the design and content of History textbooks. History textbooks align with the Scholar Academic ideology while English textbooks align with the Social Reconstruction ideology and the Learner Centered ideology. Suggestions and recommendations offered in this study will help textbook (TB) evaluators and teachers develop a method of evaluating the textbook embedded ideology so that their judgments for textbook selection and evaluation can be made on reasonably secure grounds. It guides textbook designers to integrate the Learner-Centered ideologies and the Social Reconstruction ideologies into textbook images, texts, and tasks so that learners will develop both language and identity

Nyckelord: Ledarskapsfilosofier, högpresterande, fastighetsmäklare, HRM-praktikerTitle:  Leadership Styles and Performance Levels in the Real Estate Brokerage Industry: A Qualitative Study Level:  Bachelor's Thesis in Business Administration Author:  Maral Gankhuyag and Heba Saied Supervisor:  Lars-Johan Åge Date: 22-05-2024 Aim: The purpose of this thesis is to identify and compare the relationships between different leadership styles within HRM philosophies (Human Resource Management) and commission-based employees across three different performance levels, focusing on the real estate profession. Method: The study used a qualitative, abductive approach and included ten semi-structured interviews with registered real estate agents in Stockholm and Uppsala, divided into three performance levels based on annual turnover. The interview questions were designed based on the theoretical framework. Results and Conclusion: The conclusion shows that different leadership styles within HRM affect real estate agents' performance. Soft HRM, emphasizing employee well-being, is particularly effective at lower performance levels. Hard HRM, focusing on structured development processes and reward systems, increases productivity at all levels, especially among high-performing agents. Thesis Contribution: The study contributes to business administration by focusing on practical leadership and the relationships between leadership actions and real estate agents' performance. This can inspire the development of leadership within real estate companies to improve employee performance, increase turnover, and create a safe work environment. Suggestions for Further Research: A quantitative study with more respondents and exploration of different geographic areas, industries, performance measures, and cultural influences on HRM strategies would be highly interesting to explore. Keywords: Leadership Philosophies, High-Performing, Real Estate Agents, HRM Practice

Cantilever-based RF- mems switches for 5G applications

    No full text
Fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications are developed for Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as industrial automation, cloud robots, and safety-critical vehicle communications. The emerging 5G requires fast data rates, minimal latency, and wide coverage. In order to fulfill these demands improved slot-based architecture, mm-wave bands, and beamforming are being designed. These technologies require RF front-end switches with high isolation, frequency filtering, low insertion loss, high linearity, and fast switching. This thesis studies cantilever-based RF-MEMS switch performance at high frequencies for 5G applications. The RF-MEMS switch is first designed in a series configuration and exploits intrinsic stresses within a thin film to build a self-assembled cantilever beam based on bi-directional control of intrinsic stresses to reconstruct straight cantilever beams into out-of-plane wavy structures. The novel switch design displays a low insertion loss of -0.5 dB in the on-state and high RF isolation of -22 dB in the off-state at 30 GHz due to the large air gap between the distal end of the cantilever switch (RFin) and underlying contact pad (RFout), while maintaining a low operation voltage of 10.5 V. In addition, to reduce the inherent high actuation voltage needs of conventional electrostatic fixed–fixed shunt switches, a cantilever-based RF-MEMS switch with a shunt configuration has also been designed and, systematically optimized both from electromechanical and RF performance aspects achieving a pull-in voltage of 9 V, low insertion loss of -0.14 dB, and high isolation of -44.7 dB at 30 GHz. The novel cantilever-based series and shunt RF-MEMS switches designed in this thesis exhibit low insertion losses, high isolation and low pull-in voltages, making them ideal for 5G mobile applications
