Psychological capital as a moderator in the relationship between job autonomy and job stress: The case of Pakistan financial services firms

    No full text
The annual costs caused by occupation-related stress are currently estimated at billions of dollars. This study examines the interactive role of psychological capital in the relationship between job autonomy and job stress. The researcher used the time-lagged method to collect the data from six hundred and eighty-eight (N = 688) employees offering financial services at the emerging market. Multiple hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis. The results revealed a nonlinear U-shaped relationship between job autonomy and job stress. The results also indicated a negative association between psychological capital and job stress. The analysis showed that psychological capital suggests the curvilinear association between job autonomy and job stress. The empirical research has demonstrated that a reasonable level of job autonomy may: (i) be more valuable to employees; (ii) intrinsically motivate the employees by making the job meaningful, interesting and enjoyable, thus resulting in less job stress. A high level of job autonomy may decrease job stress if employees have developed all elements of psychological capital; otherwise, it leads to a rising level of job stress

GCC nations are transforming their energy industry and market around the world which is promising their economic efficiency and technology development. Nevertheless, this open energy market across the world has raised a question about energy security and power demand. This energy market globalization has pushed the GCC Nations to pay attention to the control of supply and demand of power. Interconnection of power network between the GCC Region is optimistic pace to secure the future anticipated power fallouts. And also installation of Renewable Energy projects will support GCC to accommodate their increasing power demand. This paper discusses about how the energy market globalization has affected the power supply and demand of GCC nations, their concerns and recent progress towards its resolution

Attitudinal Obstacles and Fears of the Employers about the Hiring of Persons with Disabilities in Pakistan

    No full text
Persons with disabilities in Pakistan must contend with rigid mindsets when looking for work prospects. The report found the employers' concerns and skepticism regarding the productivity of employees with physical limitations. Data from 60 small, medium, and large businesses has been gathered to look at employer concerns about hiring people with disabilities. Employers' major reasons for not hiring people with disabilities include productivity, coworker acceptability, safety, turnover & retention, work performance, dependability, the expense of accessible accommodations, and a lack of the requisite job skills & experience. Significantly, the study will demonstrate research-based understanding regarding the attitudinal obstacles that people with impairments confront while trying to enter the workforce. There are suggestions for ensuring that people with impairments have equitable access to job possibilities and for raising awareness of disabilities among employers

What’s Wrong with Gazanias? A Review of the Biology and Management of Weedy Gazania Species

    No full text
Gazania is a genus of herbaceous plants from the Asteraceae (daisy) family. Native to southern Africa, several species of this genus have been introduced to different countries as ornamental garden plants due to their beautiful flowers. In the wild, Gazania species have been observed with flowers of different shades of pink, red, yellow, orange and combination of these colours. Some species of Gazania have escaped the gardens and become highly invasive weeds in their introduced range. Invasive, drought-tolerant and prolific seed-producing Gazania plants are found in Australia, New Zealand, Algeria, Egypt, Europe and California. In particular, two perennial species, Gazania linearis and Gazania rigens, commonly known as gazania, have become a major problem in Australia. They have naturalized and are widespread in a range of environments, such as roadsides, pasture/grassland systems, coastal sand dunes, and natural and managed ecosystems. Their seeds and underground reproductive structures are carried along roadsides by slashers, machinery, wind and water, and spread into native vegetation, pastures, horticultural crops and broadacre agronomic crop production systems. Gazania causes significant environmental, production and economic losses in the infested ecosystems. While limited research has been conducted on their biology and invasion ecology, anecdotal evidence suggests that the ability of gazania plants to produce a large number of seeds form thick, dense populations, and tolerate harsh environments, including drought, heat and sub-optimal soil pH, making them persistent, problematic weed species. In addition, perennial growth habit, high genetic diversity and allelopathic potential have also been suggested to facilitate their invasion success, but no research has been conducted on these aspects. Gazania is very difficult to manage, and currently, there are no effective control options available, including chemical herbicides. The lack of knowledge on their biology, invasion pathways and management is hindering the effective management of gazanias. This review compiles and synthesizes currently available information on the distribution, biology, ecology and management of weedy gazania species, with a particular focus on Australia. We also highlight the key knowledge gaps for future research. We believe this information provides researchers and practitioners with an up-to-date account on the weedy aspects of these popular ornamental plants and will help improve management efforts

PREVALENCE OF TESTICULAR TORSION IN ADOLESCENT BOYS

    No full text
Twisting of spermatic cord contents resulting in absence of blood supply to the ipsilateral testis. It is a urological emergency and requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to preserve the affected testis and future fertility. In this cross sectional study at DHQ and General Hospital, Faisalabad, mean age of children was 8.64 ± 4.08 years. Thus, grey scale and color Doppler ultrasonography is the imaging modality of choice in diagnosing the testicular torsion and hence by the virtue of prompt ultrasound diagnosis, testicular loss and infertility can be avoided in the majority of cases. Key words: Testicular torsion, bell clapper deformity, ultrasonography, adolescent boys

Evaluating the Safety Profile of Propofol Sedation in Patients Undergoing Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation: A Comprehensive Analysis

    No full text
Objective: To find out the incidence of complications of Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation, when done under Propofol sedation. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study, which was conducted in the Gastroenterology department, PAF Hospital. From 1st Feb 2019 to 30th June 2023. Patients who underwent Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation were included in the study. Anesthesia was provided using Propofol and Midazolam. Endoscopic variceal band ligation was carried out by a consultant gastroenterologist. Incidence of complications during the procedure and within 48 hours was noted. Results: Out of 385 patients included in the study, re-bleeding was reported in 8 patients (2.1%), bacteremia in 8 patients (2.1%), hypotension in 77 patients (20%), and hypoxia in 56 patients (14.5%).  The rest of the complications such as perforation, Mallory-Weis tear, cardiac arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction were not observed in any patient. Conclusion: Propofol is a safe drug for deep sedation during Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation associated with reduced complication risk

A Cluster Analysis of the Reportage “Chinese Women Protest at Gynaecology Checks for Civil Service Jobs” in the Guardian

    No full text
Drawing upon Kenneth Burke’s cluster analysis, this article explores how the guardian journalist Jonathan Kaiman in his news article “Chinese women protest at gynecology checks for civil service jobs” constructs his rhetoric in convincing the audience of the ideology of gender discrimination in the practice of gynecological examination to women civil service applicants in China. The analysis reveals that civil service “examination” in China has been transformed into gynecological “examination”, which is clearly a discrimination against women applicants. In the end, the author argues that the ideology of gender inequality perpetuated by official levels in China is the primary reason why women civil service applicants have to undergo gynecological examinations. Only by eliminating the ideology of gender inequality that exists in official levels can it really enable women to compete with men equally in job application.
