    Effect of variable annealing temperatures in Polymerase Chain Reaction / Mohd Khairul Shafiq Ali

    Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is typically carried om in three distinct steps governed by three distinct temperatures. These three important steps are the denaturing, annealing and extension. Annealing is the second stage of a PCR run whereby the primers will bind to the target DNA or target sequence for amplification. The goal is not to amplify in vitro the entire DNA but only specific region of interest only. In this study, the effects of variable or different annealing temperature on PCR performance were investigated. Six different annealing temperature setting were chosen, that is 46° C, 49°C, ,52°C, 55°C, 58°C, and 61°C. At the end of the PCR run the amplicons were then electrophoresed, stained with ethidium bromide dammed in water and finally photographed by a gel documentation system with UV light. At 46°C to 58°C DNA bands of varying intensity were produced. At 61°C, no band was seen. These results showed that the best annealing temperature (Tm) for this consensus primer was 52°C. The band was clear, sharp and with the highest intensity at the expected 1400 bp molecular weight. This therefore concludes that the Tm of a particular primer sets (forward and reverse) can be experimentally determined to obtain the optimum result

    These two volumes constitute the second part (nun-taw) of the Syriac-Arabic dictionary of the 10th cent. physician Isho bar Ali (the first half of the dictionary had been published in 1874 by G. Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

The study will explain more about relationship between export in Malaysia and independent variable for 30 years. The independent variable is Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Exchange rate, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Gross National Savings (GNS) and Domestic Value Added (DVA). This study uses Econometric Views (E-Views) 10 in analysing the data. The study find that Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Gross National Savings (GNS) and Domestic Value Added (DVA) are significant factors that influence export in Malaysia

    Structure and electronic properties of calcium doped ybco-247 superconductor via density functional theory / Mohd Shafiq Afnan Ali

    The effect of doping calcium to Y-247 superconductor was studied via Density Functional Theory through the electron density of a material at ground state due to Hohenberg-Kohn and Kohn-Sham theorem respectively. Calcium was used as a dopant to substitute Cu2+ and Y3+ that possibly increases the hole concentration. It was found that direct substitution into the Cu-site of cuprate superconductors will directly affect its properties. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculation was used as the simulation platform to calculate the energy band gap, density of states and the electron density of the Y-247 phase. The structure retains it orthorhombicity when doped at both side but decreases the lattice parameter c. An increase in energy band gap above the Fermi level can be seen as the concentration increase from x=0.02, x=0.04, x=0.06, x= 0.08 to x=0.10 for Ca-doping into Y-site of the system. Ca-doping into Cu-site shows a decrease in the energy band gap when the value of dopant increases. Doping Ca into Y-site shows an increase in the density of state with value x=0.02 and x=0.04 but started to decrease at x=0.06. In Cu-site, doping concentration of x=0.04 shows the highest at partial density of state of oxygen 2p orbital. The electron density distribution show a steady distribution along CuO chain and CuO2 plane which shows high probability of electron existence which proves the superconducting properties at the CuO2 plane and CuO chains respectively as the charge carriers

Researcher have conducted the study using the questionnaires and the questionnaire have been distributed to the employee who worked at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).     Strength characterization of the cfrp confined circular reinforced concrete column under high temperature / Muhammad Amir Shafiq Rahamad Ali

    High temperatures can do severe harm to reinforced concrete buildings, resulting in strength losses and damaging the mechanical and physical properties of the construction. Strengthened column structures are exposed to the risk of fire occurrence subjecting the structure to high temperatures. There are still limited studies on full and partial CFRP confined RC circular columns under high temperature and on validation of experimental result with Abaqus software. There are three main objectives are outlined in this study; i.e. to investigate the effect of high temperature exposure of the fully and partially of CFRP confinement of the columns, to determine the strength and failure mode of the CFRP confined circular reinforced concrete column under static loading and fire exposure and to validate the CFRP confined circular column using Abaqus software. A total of 21 samples of circular RC columns were fabricated for this study. 15 samples with 3 unconfined and 12 CFRP confined of 3 full 2-layers, 3 full 1-layer, 3 partial 2-layers and 3 partial 1-layer for unheated samples and 6 samples with 2 unconfined and 4 CFRP confined of 1 full 2-layers, 1 full 1-layer, 1 partial 2-layers and 1 partial 1-layer for heated samples. The heated samples were heated up to 500ºC – 600°C in range. All columns were tested under axial load to find out the compressive strength of each column’s configurations. Based on the result, the CFRP confined samples obtained higher stress results than the unconfined results for both unheated and heated samples. CFRP full 2-layers RC column obtained the highest maximum axial compressive load which was 65.73% and 78.96% for unheated and heated in comparison with unconfined (control) samples respectively for experimental results. CFRP full 2-layers RC column model also obtained the highest stress which was 65.73% and 69.33% for unheated and heated compared to unconfined model respectively for FEA results. The validation of the FE models using Abaqus software showed higher stress-strain values than the experimental results with acceptable maximum percentage difference from 3.27% and 8.33% of the ultimate axial compressive stress. The implementation of CFRP was very good in supporting the stiffness of RC columns, thus increased the compressive strength of the RC columns. Both full and partial CFRP confinement showed promising results with a potential for application due to high temperature and under axial load. Full 2-layers CFRP confinement was the best configuration in this research
