A novel simulated annealing trajectory optimization algorithm in an autonomous UAVs-empowered MFC system for medical internet of things devices
This article investigates a new autonomous mobile fog computing (MFC) system empowered by multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in order to serve medical Internet of Things devices (MIoTDs) efficiently. The aim of this article is to reduce the energy consumption of the UAVs-empowered MFC system by designing UAVs' trajectories. To construct the trajectories of UAVs, we need to consider not only the order of SPs but also the association among UAVs, SPs, and MIoTDs. The above-mentioned problem is very complicated and is difficult to be handled via applying traditional techniques, as it is NP-hard, nonlinear, non-convex, and mixed-integer. To handle this problem, we propose a novel simulated annealing trajectory optimization algorithm (SATOA), which handles the problem in three phases. First, the deployment (i.e., number and locations) of stop points (SPs) is updated and produced randomly using variable population sizes. Accordingly, MIoTDs are associated with SPs and extra SPs are removed. Finally, a novel simulated annealing algorithm is proposed to optimize UAVs' association with SPs as well as their trajectories. The performance of SATOA is demonstrated by performing various experiments on nine instances with 40 to 200 MIoTDs. The simulation results show that the proposed SATOA outperforms other compared state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of saving energy consumption.The author would like to thank Prince Sultan University for their support. BLACK WOMEN DEMONSTRATE WORSE CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE BURDEN AND CLINICAL OUTCOMES WHEN ADMITTED WITH FIRST ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
Therapeutic Area: ASCD/CVD in Women Background: We aimed to determine ethnic and gender discrepancies in coronary artery disease (CAD) burden and clinical outcomes in patients admitted with first acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: We conducted retrospective analysis of middle-aged (35-60 years) patients admitted with AMI from 2017-2020. Ethnicity, gender, body mass index (BMI) and cardiovascular (CV) risk factors (history of smoking, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, peripheral arterial disease, and chronic kidney disease) were analyzed. CAD burden was classified into single vessel disease (SVD), 2 vessel disease (2VD) and >2 or multiple vessel disease (MVD). Clinical outcomes were defined as type of intervention (PCI or CABG) and in-hospital mortality. Data was analyzed in STATA 16 and multinomial logistic regression was used to calculate adjusted (for age and CV risk factors) relative risk ratios (aRRR) for CAD burden and outcomes. Results: 434 patients (39.4% females) were divided into the following ethnicities: 61% Caucasians, 33% African Americans (AA), and 6% Hispanics. Mean age was 55+/-14 and mean BMI was 29 +/- 5.5 kg/m2. Analysis revealed higher occurrence of 2VD (aRRR 4.81, [2.64-7.22], p<0.001) and MVD (aRRR 8.23, [6.56-9.09], p<0.001) in AA vs. Caucasians (Figure 1). Hispanics showed increased incidence of 2VD (aRRR 2.21, [2.61-7.23], p<0.001) when compared to Caucasians. AA also had an increased rate of CABG (aRRR 4.11, [3.63-5.31], p<0.001) and in-hospital death (aRRR 3.61, [2.66-6.16], p<0.001). In contrast, Hispanics had similar rate of CABG and mortality compared to Caucasians. Subgroup analysis stratified by gender revealed an increased incidence of MVD (aRRR 3.21, [2.02-4.01], p<0.001) in AA females compared with other subgroups (Figure 2). Hispanic patients did not show a difference in CAD burden or clinical outcomes when stratified by gender. Conclusion: African American and Hispanic patients have increased incidence of 2VD and MVD during first AMI. AA females have the highest incidence of MVD when compared to other subgroups necessitating stricter optimization of cardiovascular health for this subset

When collecting data on sensitive topics such as abortion, harassment, tax evasion, and income, respondents often provide untruthful answers, leading to biased results. To address this issue, Warner introduced the Randomized Response Technique (RRT) to obtain sensitive information while ensuring respondent privacy. Building on this, Narjis and Shabbir proposed a two-stage RRT to estimate the prevalence of a sensitive attribute. This study extends their two-stage RRT by incorporating covariates through logistic regression to analyze their effect on the sensitive characteristic. Parameters of the logistic regression model are estimated under simple random sampling, and the performance of maximum likelihood estimators is evaluated through simulation
TRNSYS simulation of a solar cooling system for the hot climate of Pakistan
Cooling is a basic need for buildings in hot and sunny climates. In most countries the major source of cooling is electrical powerbased. During summer in hot climates there is an increase in electricity consumption due to cooling load. Pakistan is facing anelectricity shortage crisis, which becomes worse in summer due to the high demand for cooling. The annual average insolationfor Pakistan is 5-6 kWh/m2/day, reaching 6-8 kWh/m2/day in summer with sunshine of 10-13 hours a day, which gives suitableconditions for solar powered cooling system operation. TRNSYS software provides the possibility to simulate a complete solarair conditioning system integrated with a building. In this study, TRNSYS is used to model an absorption chiller operated by hotwater from an evacuated tube collector. It is found that, with a hot water storage tank, a collector area of 12 m2 is sufficient tomaintain the temperature in a room in a typical house at or below 26°C during the cooling season

<b>Development and application of edible skin coatings to improve the quality of kinnow during storage
This study aimed to develop and investigate the effect of application of indigenous skin coating materials for kinnow fruit, which surely would have superior effect on shelf stability and an attractive alternate for inedible coatings. Economical and underutilized sources were explored for this purpose. Eight different formulations were developed to check their suitability through various physico-chemical analyses. It was concluded that edible coating prepared from corn starch, stearic acid, jojoba oil and monoglycerides (T8) was observed best in terms of physico-chemical properties of fruits and significantly increased the shelf life
Chondroprotective effect of pomegranate seed oil in papain-induced knee osteoarthritis through animal modeling
Osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disorder with numerous pathophysiological implications. People have been looking for alternative and complementary therapies as a result of the side effects and higher costs of pharmaceuticals being used. The current in vivo study was designed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory effects of Punica granatum L. or pomegranate seed oil (PGSO) in papain-induced osteoarthritis rat model. The rats were classified into seven groups with 10 rats in each group; normal control, untreated control, standard drug control and experimental diet receiving groups at doses of 2g, 3g, 4g and 5g PGSO/kg b.w./d orally. For disease induction, rats right knee joints were treated with a single intra-articular injection of an admixture of 4 % papain (10 μl) and its activator 0.03 M cysteine (10 μl) and diet intervention was started as early intervention along with induction and continues till seventh week of study. The physical analysis revealed improved joint swelling by 7.45 %–7.9 % in the treatment groups than positive control group. Rats treated with PGSO interventions also showed significantly lower levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein and interleukins (IL-1, IL-6) and improved IL-10 levels. Conversely, higher doses significantly increased serum levels of superoxide dismutase and catalase. Likewise, radiological and histological analyses revealed the administration of PGSO dose dependently prevented the papain induced arthritic changes in knee joints of rats. PGSO may serve as a potent preventive agent for osteoarthritis progression with no side effects as its chondroprotective effect in vivo is highlighted in the present study
