Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Proteolysis-Targeting Chimera (PROTAC): Is the Technology Looking at the Treatment of Brain Tumors?
Post-translational modifications, such as ubiquitylation, need to be tightly controlled to guarantee the accurate localization and activity of proteins. Ubiquitylation is a dynamic process primarily responsible for proteasome-mediated degradation of substrate proteins and crucial for both normal homeostasis and disease. Alterations in ubiquitylation lead to the upregulation of oncoproteins and/or downregulation of tumor suppressors, thus concurring in tumorigenesis. PROteolysis-TArgeting Chimera (PROTAC) is an innovative strategy that takes advantage by the cell’s own Ubiquitin-Proteasome System (UPS). Each PROTAC molecule is composed by a ligand that recruits the target protein of interest (POI), a ligand specific for an E3 ubiquitin ligase enzyme, and a linker that connects these units. Upon binding to the POI, the PROTAC recruits the E3 inducing ubiquitylation-dependent proteasome degradation of the POI. To date, PROTAC technology has entered in clinical trials for several human cancers. Here, we will discuss the advantages and limitations of PROTACs development and safety considerations for their clinical application. Furthermore, we will review the potential of PROTAC strategy as therapeutic option in brain tumor, focusing on glioblastoma

Fragility analysis of masonry arch with geometrical uncertainties under sine pulse base motion
In this paper, the dynamic response of circular masonry arch subjected to a sine pulse ground motion is analysed, taking into account geometrical uncertainties related to shape defects. In order to generate the irregular geometry of the arch, the main geometrical parameters, i.e.The radius, the angle of embrace of the voussoirs and the thickness, are considered as random variables with uniform probability density functions. The dynamic analysis is performed by referring to an equivalent SDOF system made of three blocks hinged at their ends, whose equation of motion is derived from Lagrange's equations. Incremental Dynamic Analyses are carried out considering the arch with nominal geometry or geometrical uncertainties. The results are showed by means of a fragility curve, which attempts to quantify to what extent geometrical uncertainties modify the failure of the arch under sine pulse base motion
General-purpose query processing on summary graphs
Graph summarization is a well-established problem in large-scale graph data management. Its goal is to produce a summary graph, which is a coarse-grained version of a graph, whose use in substitution for the original graph enables downstream task execution and query processing at scale. Despite the extensive literature on graph summarization, still nowadays query processing on summary graphs is accomplished by either reconstructing the original graph, or in a query-specific manner. No general methods exist that operate on the summary graph only, with no graph reconstruction. In this paper, we fill this gap, and study for the first time general-purpose (approximate) query processing on summary graphs. This is a new important tool to support data-management tasks that rely on scalable graph query processing, including social network analysis. We set the stage of this problem, by devising basic, yet principled algorithms, and thoroughly analyzing their peculiarities and capabilities of performing well in practice, both conceptually and experimentally. The ultimate goal of this work is to make researchers and practitioners aware of this so-far overlooked problem, and define an authoritative starting point to stimulate and drive further research
