    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Plastic behaviour of strengthened cold-formed steel section

    To date, the use of cold-formed steel on single storey industrial buildings particularly as structural element of a portal frame is restricted. Mostly, its application is as roof and wall framing, cladding, purlins and rails. Compared with hot-rolled steel, the use of cold-formed steel on a building has advantages such as light self-weight and corrosion-free problems, even though these are weaknesses to be overcome. The main problems are local buckling and low connection capacity. From the previous study, it was shown that cod-formed rectangular hollow portal frame using thick section indicated the plastic behaviour. This section is uneasy to be derived at site. Besides, some connection methods have also been suggested by previous researchers using bolts, rivets, press and weld but such the connections cannot reach rigid connection as needed for plastic design of portal frame. This research intends to study strengthening methods of cold-formed steel section and the connection performance improvement using cover plate. From this study, it is expected that cold-formed steel section can achieve plastic section and the rigid connection can be reached. The study was performed in two stages. In the first stage, the study on small cold-formed steel beams was done, while in the second stage, the study investigated a full scale of cold-formed steel beams and the connections. Specimens of this research consist of strengthened cold-formed closed beams and the moment connections. The beams are strengthened using a splice of hot rolled plate attached to the original section by screws and weld. The beams are in various design strength, thickness, screw spacing and number of web screw rows. Three types of connection i.e. welded, unbraced cover and braced cover connections were constructed for the specimens. Self-drilling screws for the section strengthening were applied on the connected members outside the cover plate. The experimental results were compared to the theoretical one. From this study, it can be concluded that the applied strengthening method significantly increase the moment capacity of the cold-formed steel sections. Similarly, the braced cover connection improves the connection to be rigid connection

    Technical Properties of Normal Concrete with Alum Additive

    Concrete is a widely used construction material due to its numerous advantages in terms of structural performance, cost-effectiveness, implementation, and maintenance. Compressive strength is a critical property that must be considered for concrete used as a structural component. This property can be influenced by various factors, including the addition of chemical substances to the concrete mix. Alum is commonly employed as a water clarifying agent. In concrete mixtures, alum decomposes into aluminium and trioxide sulfate compounds found in cement. Incorporating alum into concrete is expected to enhance the aluminium and cement content. This research aims to investigate the technical properties of normal concrete when supplemented with alum. The technical properties under consideration include slump value and compressive strength, with a fixed mix proportion of cement: sand: gravel = 1:2:3. Alum is added in proportions of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% by weight of cement in the concrete mix. The findings of this present study indicate that the highest compressive strength is achieved in concrete specimens with 2% alum addition by weight of cement, reaching 35.629 MPa, while the corresponding slump value is 7.75 c

    Behavior of Normal Concrete Reinforced with Fiber

    Concrete is a material with the ability to withstand a fairly high pressure, yet it has a low ability to withstand tension. To be utilized as a structure material, improvements need to be made to increase its tensile strength. Addition of fiber in the concrete mixture is recognized to be one among the existing methods to increase the tensile strength. Considering its high tensile strength, This study aimed to examine the compressive strength, the split tensile strength, the flexural and elastic modulus of the normal concrete with Menjalin fibers. The examination was conducted using a cylinder with the diameter of 15 cm and the height of 30 cm and a beam with the size of 15x15x60 cm. Fiber addition was 0.65% of the total concrete materials with various fiber lengths ranging from 2.5 cm, 5 cm, 7.5 cm to 10 cm. The experiment was made by the means of a concrete cylinder compressive test and a flexural test of unreinforced concrete blocks. Results of the study showed, at the age of 21 days, the highest average compressive strength value of 194.37 kg/cm2 and the split tensile strength of 30.43 kg/cm2 in the concrete with fiber of 5 cm long were obtained. The highest flexural modulus value of concrete occurred in the specimen with the fiber length of 7.5 cm (55.7 kg/cm2), while the highest elasticity of concrete occurred in the specimen with the fiber length of 5 cm (2.45x105 kg/cm2)

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     This paper aims to understand the cost-effective methods of corrosion problems solutions of structures constructed at corrosive areas. The solution is basically done by providing additional layer on the steel or concrete structural components. The study was done by reviewing the existing design standards and the research results conducted by the previous researchers as well as the publications issued by the company concerning on the corrosion problems solutions. It can be concluded that the corrosion problems decreasing the structural strength as well as life of the structure can be caused by chloride/carbonation, contact with water (moisture) and contact with oxygen. It can also be inferred that regarding to the purpose the corrosion problems solutions could be classified as corrosion protection, types of application and longevity. In addition, the chosen method and the product used to overcome the corrosion problems of the structures are affected and should be considered the local environment especially related to the chloride concentration, concrete properties, humidity and temperature.Keywords: steel structure, concrete structure, corrosive environments, corrosion problems solution

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
