Bias in Some News on the Issue of Tony Abbot's Spying Indonesia's Politic: A Critical Discourse Analysis
News text is one of media discourse that is used to inform an information in written. There are four chosen newspapers that become the data. All of them report the same issue about the spying issue of Australia to Indonesia. Most of them indicate bias to Australia, so they are not neutral in reporting the news. Therefore, Bias in the text of news report is the focus of this research. Since Bias has been phenomenal, the critical analysis to expose bias of news report. This study reveals how a news report served bias. The bias analysis is based on the theory of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). Moreover, this analysis of this research focuses on the transitivity of processes that is used in the text of news report. This study applies Mix-Method (qualitative and quantitative research) by Denscombe (2007). the result of investigation in transitivity by Fowler shows that the four chosen newspapers serve bias implied in the text of news report
FRAMING ANALYSIS ON PRINTED BAG ADVERTISEMENTS USED AS COMMUNICATIVE STRATEGY WITH CUSTOMERS
This thesis is focused on the framing analysis as a part of the linguistic elements. It also focuses on the visual elements in 5 printed bag advertisements in different brand. The purposes of this thesis are, to discover the linguistic elements described in the catalog, to discover the visual elements depicted in the catalog, and to know the message that the advertiser want to express in the catalog. It also analyzes written text, especially in five printed bag ads. In printed ads, we can find catalog. It is one of the ways to promote and publish the products. In this case, catalog is usually used to make the customer interested in the product, then they usually buy it after seing those products. It is also has image and text. In this thesis, framing analysis as the main theory to analyse five kinds of printed bag ads. Frame analysis has two kinds of devices: Framing devices and Reasoning devices to get the frame of the ads. Linguistic elements to analyse the text in the catalog are nominal group and metaphor. Text in the printed ads means the slogans that are put in the same page with the images. The images, colour meaning, position of images, and position of the font are used in the visual elements. Results indicates the linguistics and visual elements have the effectiveness to analyze the hidden message in the printed ads. It also can be the way to catch the customer's attention to buy the products. The type of this research is a qualitative approach and the objects are printed advertisements which are five printed in branded bag catalogs. To gather the data, this research uses printed advertisements of printed bags branded taken from catalog. The result of this research shows that linguistic elements are absent in five printed handbag advertisements are in Hermes Paris, Christian Dior, and Channel handbag ads. Those elements that absent are metaphor and nominal group in Hermes Paris advertisement. In Christian Dior and Channel advertisements, the element are absents the same as well. It indicates that the customer assumed to know those handbags very well. In the visual elements, three kinds are analyzed: position of images, colour meaning, and position of the font are analyzed. Position of the fonts mostly used in those ads is on the left side because it is something that the readers presumably already know about this. Some products use the trend colour to produce this handbag in order to catch the customer‟s attention. Position of images mostly used is on the left-side. It means that it is something that has been known by the customer as the point of the message. The images are put on the left side because the buyers-to-be or the customers are expected to see this handbag before they see further information about this products

To make themunderstand what a text is about, English sentence patterns in terms of Kernelsentence patterns are introduced to them during the ESP course. However, thisteaching seems not working well. A solution is offered, dealing with sevenskills covering the introduction of parts of speech, phrases, kinds of clauses,subject and finite verbs, and main idea. With lots of drilling on those skills,students realize that they help them much in the text understanding

Deciphering Components Composed in Automobile Advertisement: A Systemic Functional Multimodal Discourse Analysis
This study deals with Systemic Functional Multimodal Discourse Analysis that concerns on the analysis of eight automobile advertisements in Evo Australia Magazine September 2016 Edition. This study is conducted to explore the intended meaning of visual and linguistic components which show the quality of the product. The investigation is based on SF-MDA theory proposed by O’Halloran (2008), enhanced by Generic Structure Potential of print advertisement by Cheong (2004) that is rooted from Halliday and Hasan (1989) to classify visual and linguistic components on the advertisement. Then, Systemic Functional Linguistic especially transitivity analysis proposed by Halliday (1994) is employed to analyze the linguistic components. Furthermore, The Meaning of Composition and Colour Function theories proposed by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) are employed to analyze the visual components. Later, Intersemiotic Ideation proposed by O’Halloran (2008) is employed to analyze the relation between the visual and linguistic components on eight automobile advertisements.
This study applies qualitative research because the data consist of texts and visual images on print advertisement. Later, the data are taken from the internet. The data are eight automobile advertisements. The data were taken from online magazine belonging to Evo Australia Magazine September Edition on 2016. To analyze the data, they are classified into visual and linguistic components through Generic Structure Potential (GSP) theory proposed by Cheong. Then, the linguistic components are analyzed by using the Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) theory proposed by Halliday especially transitivity analysis. The analysis is then completed by elaborating overall theories. The finding of this study proves that the eight advertisements have visual and linguistic components of GSP of print advertisement proposed by Cheong, namely Lead, Display, Emblem, Announcement, and Enhancer. Then, Tag and Call-and-Visit Information are presented in several advertisements. This finding means that these two linguistic components are optional element as mentioned by Cheong. The presence of Lead, Display, Emblem, Announcement, and Enhancer in all advertisements shows the interaction between visual and linguistic components in order to the readers easily understand the intended message of the advertisement. Moreover, most clauses on linguistic components refer to material, relational identifying, and relational attributive processes. This finding means that the all advertisements tend to attract customers’ attention and describe what the product has.
Both visual and linguistic components in all advertisements work to show the quality of the product. First, the Lead mostly presents its functionality and performance. Second, the Display which is presented explicitly refers to its construction and function principle. Third, Emblem (Logo/Brandname) presents expertise of manufacturer. Fourth, the Announcement which declares through undiluted performance, born on the track, built for the road, goosebumps never lie, less raw, more roar, bespoke, fast, distinctive, faster, more affordable, red light, 1103kW mostly show the functionality and performance. Fifth, the Enhancer which is in a paragraph form tends to describe the functionality and performance of the product advertised. Sixth, the Tag which declares through AMG DRIVEN BY INNER FORCE, Innovation that excites, DRIVEN AT HEART, THE ORIGINAL AND STILL THE BEST tends to show the functionality and performance of product advertised. The last, the Call-and-Visit Information tends to show the service of the company to get more information related to the product advertised
The Study of Transitivity on the Comments on Barack Obama's Selfie Pictures (Pembelajaran Transitivity Pada Komentar-Komentar Pada Foto-Foto Selfie Obama)
Penelitian ini membahas tentang analisis transitiviti pada komentar pada gambar selfi Barack Obama. Selfi adalah foto diri yang di ambil, biasanya diambil dengan ponsel kamera atau webcam, dan biasanya diletakkan pada situs jejaring sosial. Saat ini, selfi sangat populer, jadi ada banyak gambar selfie di media sosial termasuk foto selfi dari Presiden ke-44 Amerika Serikat, Barack Obama. Salah satu foto selfi yang menimbulkan sebuah perbedaan pendapat adalah salah satu yang diambil selama Presiden Obama bersama-sama dengan beberapa pemimpin dunia selama upacara peringatan Nelson Mandela di Stadion FNB Johannesburg, Desember lalu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis komentar di beberapa surat kabar terpilih pada gambar selfie Barrack Obama dari sudut pandang Analisis Wacana melalui analisis transitiviti. Terutama, analisis berfokus pada analisa transitiviti yang digunakan dalam surat kabar. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode campuran (baik kualitatif dan metode kuantitatif). Hasil investigasi transitiviti menunjukkan bahwa tidak semua proses transitivi digunakan oleh penulis dalam memberikan komentar mereka tentang foto selfi Obama. Artinya, bahwa hanya lima dari enam proses yang muncul di surat kabar yang digunakan oleh penulis untuk memberikan komentar negatif untuk para pembaca berita tentang foto selfi Obama

Laporan praktek kerja nyata dengan judul "Peranan Bahasa Inggris di Bidang Jurnalistik dalam Bidang Pengembangan Informasi Berita di RRI cabang Pratama Jember" dibuat berdasarkan hasil praktek kerja nyata yang dilaksanakan di RRI Cabang Pratama Jember dengan standar waktu 1,5 bulan (240 jam kerja). Adapun kegiatan yang dilakukan selama praktek kerja nyata yaitu meliputi kegiatan-kegiatan yang terjadi di dalam seksi pemberitaan mulai dari mencari, mengumpulkan data, dan menulis berita, serta karya jurnalistik populer lainnya. Tujuan dari praktek kerja nyata ini diantaranya adalah untuk mempelajari dan mengetahui serta melatih praktek langsung dalam program siaran radio terutama proses penyusunan berita dan jurnalistik radio
