    Whittier House scrapbooks document Whittier House programs, events, and anniversary celebrations through newspaper clippings, lecture fliers, newsletters, event programs, and ticket stubs. Newspaper clippings are primarily from the Jersey Journal. There is also Whittier House fundraising materials, including pamphlets, appeal letters, brochures, and postcards. The Whittier House Social Settlement, the first settlement house in New Jersey, was established in Jersey City, N.J. (Hudson County) in 1894. Founded by Cornelia Foster Bradford, who would remain with the organization as headworker until 1926, Whittier House was based on the settlement house, Toynbee Hall, in England. Whittier House provided various recreational and educational programs, along with much needed social services, for the immigrant populations of Jersey City. Many of these successful services were used as models for large-scale social reform movements through the state. In 1935, the Whittier House was taken over by the Boys' Club of Jersey City

    This is a portrait of Seth Arsenian, a Springfield College faculty member and the school's first Professor of Humanics.Dr. Seth Arsenian was born in 1902 in Vaspurakan, the capital of the kingdom of Urartu in Armenia. He became an American citizen in 1940, after which Springfield College hired him as a psychology professor. During World War II, he took a leave of absence from to work in Washington, D.C., first with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and then with the Office of War Information, where he was in charge of propaganda for the Middle East. When he returned to Springfield College, he was hired as acting dean, director of admissions, and eventually the director of the graduate program. He retired in 1969 and moved to San Diego

    During the tenure of Tampa Mayor Sandy Freedman (1986-1995), Bob Seth served as her personal bodyguard. The interview begins with Mr. Seth discussing his background and growing up in Port Tampa. He goes on to discuss his time working for the Tampa Police Department and how he met the Mayor. Mr. Seth also talks about various dignitaries who visited Tampa during Mayor Freedman\u27s tenure and how the Tampa Police Department worked alongside the U.S. Secret Service for many of these visits. He also describes what it was like meeting one of these dignitaries - Queen Elizabeth II. Mr. Seth discusses Mayor Freedman\u27s desire to improve race relations within the city and the steps that she took to improve the minority community\u27s standard of living. The interview ends with an overview of Mr. Seth\u27s impressions of Mayor Freedman and what it was like working for her
