Electrochemical response of several cathode configurations prepared with Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ and Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 for IT-SOFC
The electrochemical response of Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF) electrodes prepared by an acetic acid-based gel route has been investigated by impedance spectroscopy (IS) as a function of temperature (400 ≤ T ≤ 900 °C) and oxygen partial pressure (1 × 10−3 ≤ pO2 ≤ 1 atm). Several electrode configurations were studied using Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 (GDC) as the electrolyte. These consisted of one BSCF layer (cell A), a BSCF layer with an intermediate porous GDC layer (cell B), and graded electrodes using a composite BSCF+GDC, with variations in the surface area of GDC (cells C and D). The optimum heat treatment for the electrode assemblages was determined to be around 850–900 °C. Analysis of the impedance spectra shows that at T ≥ 600 °C a low frequency (LF) contribution, associated to the gas phase diffusion is systematically the rate-limiting step. All the electrodes show an intermediate frequency (IF) arc related to mixed processes. For cells A and B, the IF response is related to the oxide ion transfer at the electrode/electrolyte surface and the charge transfer at the electrode surface, while for cells C and D the mixed process involves the charge transfer and the molecular oxygen dissociation at the electrode surface.Fil: Setevich, Cristian. Novel 3-D resistor network simulation method for mixed ionic and electronic conducting electrodes
In this study, we propose and analyze a new resistor network model designed for the analysis of electrodes with mixed conductivity in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Resistor networks simulation for electrodes with mixed ionic and electronic conductivity oxides (MIEC) is not typically used due to the presence of oxygen ions and electrons as charge carriers. To address this complexity within the model, two resistor networks are employed. These networks conduct the different electrical species, and are linked through a resistor representing the charge transfer (CT) process. In the case of mixed-conducting electrodes, this CT occurs at the surface exposed to the gas phase. The electrode simulated in this study is generated using the discrete element method of random sphere insertion, and subsequently voxelized to create the resistor network. This method considers the geometric and microstructural parameters of the electrode, such as porosity, particle size, and electrode thickness. Electrical parameters are incorporated into the network through the values of the various conductivities characterizing MIEC oxides and including CT interface conductivities. By integrating geometric, microstructural, and electrical parameters, the model accurately captures the behavior of the electrodes. The close agreement between simulation and experimental/theoretical results highlights the efficacy of the approach in elucidating the electrochemical processes occurring at the MIEC electrode.Fil: Setevich, Cristian F.. Optimum cathode configuration for IT-SOFC using La0.4Ba0.6CoO3−δ and Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95
Three different cathode configurations using porous layers of La0.4Ba0.6CoO3-d (LBC), LBCGDC composite in a 1:1 weight ratio, and GDC were prepared and tested by impedance spectroscopy measurements on symmetrical cells. The sequence of layers for the three cathode configurations is: A)porous GDC + LBC, B) porous GDC + LBCGDC composite, C) porous GDC + LBCGDC composite + LBC. The minimum polarization resistance (Rp) value was obtained with configuration C. The incorporation of both the porous GDC layer and the intermediate layer of LBC-GDC composite, allowed us to solve adherence problems caused by the total expansion mismatch between LBC (26 10-6 K-1) and GDC (12 10-6 K-1). The Rp values obtained with cell C are comparable to the performance of another cell C prepared with Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-d (BSCF). For example, the Rp values at 600 ºC, in air, were 0.071 and 0.065 Ωcm2 for LBC and BSCF, respectively. Infiltrated La0.5Ba0.5CoO3-δ in La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.8Mg0.2O2.8 scaffolds as cathode material for IT-SOFC
The electrochemical response of infiltrated La0.5Ba0.5CoO3-δ (LBC) in porous La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.8Mg0.2O2.8 (LSGM) has been investigated. The thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of the resulting electrode was measured, obtaining α = 12.5 × 10−6 K−1, a value similar to that of LSGM. The polarization resistance (Rp) and the processes involved in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) for the new electrode were studied and analyzed through complex impedance spectroscopy measurements as a function of temperature and oxygen partial pressure (pO2), using a symmetrical cell. The value of Rp for the infiltrated LBC turned out to be lower than that measured for an electrode prepared with a composite LBC-LSGM (1:1 wt%) by an order of magnitude, for the temperature range 750 °C ≤ T ≤ 900 °C, and about 5 times lower for the temperature range 450 °C≤ T ≤ 650 °C. At 600 °C, the LBC infiltrated cathode exhibits a polarization resistance Rp = 0.22 Ω cm2, in air. The complex impedance spectra show two processes, one identified as low frequency (LF),with a characteristic frequency of 10 Hz, and the other as intermediate frequency (IF), with a range between 0.05 and 2000 Hz. The LF process could be associated to the diffusion of oxygen in the gas phase through the pores of the electrode. Its resistance, RLF = 0.01 Ωc m2 , was found to be independent of the temperature and half of that obtained for the LBC composite cathode. On the other hand, the IF process is related to charge transfer at the electrode surface and the electrode-electrolyte interface. The LBC cobaltite infiltrated in the LSGM scaffolds offers an adequate thermal expansion coefficient and good electrocatalytic activity for the ORR.Fil: Setevich, Cristian. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
