Motivi letterari nei libri per l’infanzia di Paolo Di Paolo
The article, organised in the form of a discussion, aims to analyse the themes and motifs of Paolo Di Paolo’s works that are addressed to young audiences. The author has recently published a large number of volumes directed just at younger readers. When beholding the titles that constitute the author’s bibliography, the reader is struck by Di Paolo’s predisposition to transform literary classics: as much in Giacomo il signor bambino as in the edition of the Divina Commedia, the author’s goal is to try to reach his new readers. Therefore, Di Paolo proves to be a prolific author of the genre; in fact, in his bibliography, volumes of fairy tales with a classic slant, such as La mucca volante, are listed as well.L’articolo contiene un’analisi di temi e di motivi delle opere di Paolo Di Paolo dirette al pubblico più piccolo. L’autore negli ultimi anni ha pubblicato un cospicuo numero di volumi indirizzati, infatti, proprio ai lettori più giovani. Ciò che stupisce scorgendo i titoli che costituiscono la bibliografia dell’autore, è la predisposizione a trasformare i classici della letteratura: tanto in Giacomo il signor bambino quanto nell’edizione della Divina Commedia l’obiettivo è cercare di raggiungere i lettori più giovani. Di Paolo si dimostra, quindi, un autore prolifico del genere, tant’è che nell’elenco non mancano volumi fiabeschi dal taglio classico come La mucca volante. Metabolomic Characterization of Italian Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annum L.) by Means of HRMAS-NMR Spectroscopy and Multivariate Analysis
HRMAS-NMR spectroscopy was used to assess the metabolic profile of sweet pepper (Capsicum Annum L.). One-dimensional and two-dimensional NMR spectra, performed directly on sample pieces of few milligrams, hence without any chemical and/or physical manipulation, allowed the assignment of several compounds. Organic acids, fatty acids, amino acids, and minor compounds such as trigonelline, C4-substituted pyridine, choline, and cinnamic derivatives were observed with a single experiment. A significant discrimination between the two sweet pepper varieties was found by using partial least-squares projections to latent structures discrimination analysis (PLS-DA). The metabolites contributing predominantly to such differentiation were sugars and organic and fatty acids. Also a partial separation according to the geographical origin was obtained always by analyzing the NMR data with PLS-DA. Some of the discriminating molecules are peculiar for pepper and contribute to define the overall commercial and organoleptic quality so that HRMAS-NMR proved to be a complementary analysis to standard tools used in food science and, in principle, can be applied to any foodstuff
Pier Paolo Pasolini e la società: il "sogno di una cosa" travolto dalla "nuova preistoria"
L’articolo prende in esame – nel centenario della nascita – il “pensiero politico” di Pier Paolo Pasolini. Vengono pertanto scandagliati (soprattutto) i suoi scritti sulla società, ma frequenti sono le incursioni nella letteratura e soprattutto nel cinema di questo autore del tutto originale. Ne emerge lo spessore di concetti spesso usati dal poeta per analizzare e criticare il presente: Nuova Preistoria, nuovo capitalismo, consumismo, edonismo, il Potere, il Palazzo, il Processo, sviluppo e progresso, sacralità in primis. Si evidenzia inoltre come l’occhio e il giudizio di Pasolini siano stati principalmente guidati dalla passione e solo di rimando dalla ragione. Un ruolo non secondario nella sua percezione del reale ha inoltre assunto la sua omosessualità. Nella parte finale dello scritto si analizzano alcuni strumenti tecnici utilizzati dall’autore per svolgere la propria opera di comprensione del presente e della sua conseguente traduzione artistico-critica.The article examines - in the centenary of his birth - the "political thought" of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Therefore, it scrutinizes (above all) his writings on society, but there are frequent incursions into the literature and especially into the cinema of this completely original author. What emerges is the depth of concepts often used by the poet to analyze and criticize the present: New Prehistory, new capitalism, consumerism, hedonism, Power, the Palace, the Process, development and progress, sacredness in primis. It also shows how Pasolini's eye and judgment were mainly guided by passion and only by reason. His homosexuality also played a significant role in his perception of reality. In the final part of the paper we analyze some technical tools used by the author to carry out his work of understanding the present and its consequent artistic-critical translation
Investigating the interactions of hyaluronan derivatives with biomolecules. The use of diffusional NMR techniques
The interactions between a biomaterial and biomolecules present in body fluids often determine the fate of the biomaterial. This paper presents a study on hyaluronan (HA)-containing materials (in soluble or colloidal form) that focuses on their interactions with lipids and proteins and for the first time uses PFG NMR as an analytical technique for probing these events. The interactions of HA-based polymers with phospholipids (DPPC and DPPG liposomes) are shown to depend both on charge and hydrophobicity factors. Despite the difference in behavior between albumin (substantially non-adhesive) and fibrinogen (adhesive), the interactions of the polymers with proteins do not seem to be based on hydrophobic effects but on surface polar interactions. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Cherry tomatoes metabolic profile determined by 1H-High Resolution-NMR spectroscopy as influenced by growing season
The content of the most valuable metabolites present in the lipophilic fraction of Protected Geographical Indication cherry tomatoes produced in Pachino (Italy) was observed for 2 cultivated varieties, i.e. cv. Naomi and cv. Shiren, over a period of 3 years in order to observe variations due to relevant climatic parameters, e.g. solar radiation and average temperature, characterising different seasons. 1H-NMR spectroscopy was applied and spectral data were processed by means of Principal Component Analysis (PCA). We found that the metabolic profile was different for the two considered cultivated varieties and they were differently affected by climatic conditions. Major metabolites influenced by cropping period were α-tocopherol and the unsaturated lipid fraction in Naomi cherry tomatoes, and chlorophylls and phospholipids in Shiren variety, respectively. These results furnished useful information on seasonal dynamics of such important nutritional metabolites contained in tomatoes, confirming also NMR spectroscopy as powerful tool to define a complete metabolic profiling. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Interactions of prion proteins with soil
Prions, are proteinaceous particles recognized as the agents of a class of neurodegenerative disorders, called transmissible spongiform
encephalopathies (TSE), or prion diseases. Epidemiological data suggest that TSE-contaminated environments may serve as source of
infectivity, but there is no information about adsorption of prions onto soil. We carried out experiments by mixing, healthy, or scrapieinfected hamster brains homogenates with three types of soil suspended in different buffers: (i) two saline buffers, i.e., phosphate buffer
solution (PBS) and CaCl2
solution; (ii) a mix of nondenaturing detergents, i.e., Triton X-100 and sodium deoxycholate (DOC) solution;
(iii) a non-ionic detergent, i.e., lauryl maltoside; (iv) two anionic detergents, i.e., Sarkosyl or sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS); and (v) a
chaotropic agent, i.e., urea. The unbound prion proteins were detected in the supernatants (after centrifugation of soil suspension) by
Western blotting. Results clearly demonstrate that both the no infectious (PrP
C
) and infectious (PrP
Sc
) forms are adsorbed by all soils.
Only 1% sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) partially impeded the association of PrP
C
, but not that of PrP
Sc
with the sandy loam soil.
Agents with different interacting properties towards hydrophilic and/or hydrophobic domains failed to extract PrP
Sc
from sediments of
soil–brain homogenate mixtures. The strong interaction of PrP
Sc
with soil favors the accumulation of prions in soils, especially if
amended with prion-containing organic fertilizers and/or whenever TSE-affected animal carcasses, placenta, and excreta in general are
buried or laid at the soil surface
A multifactorial approach in characterizing geographical origin of Sicilian cherry tomatoes using 1 H-NMR profiling
In this study, metabolomic analysis of chloroform extracts was performed to characterize cherry tomatoes (cv Naomi and Shiren) grown in different Sicilian areas, using 1H NMR spectroscopy coupled with multivariate statistical analysis. Principal components analysis showed clear discrimination between extracts of cherry tomatoes cultivated in two different seasons (winter and summer) and grown in three areas of Sicily (Gela, Licata, Pachino). In particular, carotenoids and phospholipids mainly were found to be more discriminating metabolites for both cultivars in summer and winter. In the present study, the simple separation only based on production area was found to be inadequate to distinguish the three groups of tomatoes. A clear separation among the different samples groups was obtained using a multifactorial approach not only based on the geographical origin classification, but considering also cultivar, year and seasonality
Seasonal chemical-physical changes of PGI Pachino cherry tomatoes detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used to study the variations of internal structure and chemical-physical characteristics of cherry tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum cv. Shiren), one the most economically valuable horticultural crops, in different harvesting seasons. In particular, the study focused on PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Pachino cherry tomatoes, characterised by taste and nutritional value, notably in the winter production, amounting about 500 ton/year. Spin-spin and spin-lattice relaxation times, T2 and T1 respectively, determined on whole fruit, provided useful data highlighting variations among samples according to the season (winter, spring and summer). MRI images evidenced differences among cellular tissues such as pericarp and endocarp, through variations of: (1) T2 and T1 measures and water tumbling and diffusion motion, (2) thicknesses of different morphological zones, (3) qualitative characteristics of the tissue covering placental cavities where seeds are contained. Results of variance analysis (ANOVA) showed that physical parameters, as the transverse and longitudinal relaxation times, T2 and T1, measured in the morphological tissues of vegetables are excellent variables highlighting their differences in different seasons. This innovative non-destructive technique in food science has great potential in fruit quality assessment
