    The Rise of Opaque Products as an Efficient Revenue Management Technique in the Travel Industry

    This paper discusses and reviews in detail about opaque products which is also known as probabilistic goods, right from its inception and beginnings in early 2000’s. Opaque products are virtual goods and can be considered as a relatively new revenue management technique that has aided mainly the travel industry, specifically the airlines and hotels to increase their revenues and profits by intentionally withholding certain key information for some of the products to the customers. For Example, in airline industry the information may be product attributes like carrier, transfers, departure time etc. These products primarily trades consumption value for price savings with the buyers. Several models of opaque products which segment the market, thereby enhancing price discrimination and providing revenue enhancement, specifically in the airline industry have been described in this paper. A specific type of opaque product known as variable opaque product has also been described. Such variable opaque products allow the customer to pick and choose the attributes thereby varying the opaqueness. Thus, they have been found extremely advantageous and provide financial benefits to the airlines while providing welfare to the customers. The advantages of opaque selling models both to the customer as well as the airlines under certain types of environment has also been discussed along with its extensive applications in seat inventory control and inter-temporal pricing. Finally, the paper comes up with a few useful propositions that can be either tested empirically or modelled appropriately along with probable future work that should provide a vivid reader with the necessary spark that would aid him or her to contribute to further useful work in this area

    Impact of cerium doping on the structural and electrical properties of lithium nickel manganese oxide (LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2)

    The present work focuses on the influence of Cerium on the structural and electrical properties of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2compound. Equivalent (LiNi0.475Ce0.05Mn0.475O2) and non-equivalent sites (LiNi0.45Ce0.05Mn0.5O2 and LiNi0.5Ce0.05Mn0.45O2) cerium doped LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2compounds were prepared by PVP assisted sol-gel method and was investigated by XRD and AC impedance analysis. The XRD analysis shows that Ce doping does not change the basic crystalline structure of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2. The appearance of new peaks at ~ 28 and 33° in the XRD pattern was consistent with the standard peaks of CeO2. In addition, the intensity ratio (I003/I104) of planes (003) and (104) was decreased by doping, suggesting the undesirable cation mixing to be occurred at the lattice. By AC impedance analysis the total electrical conductivity of the pristine compound was found to be 2.57×10−7 S/cm. An effective improvement of the total electrical conductivity (order of 10−6S/cm) was observed for the cerium doped LNMO compounds. © 2014, Sphinx Knowledge House. All rights Reserved.1

    Correlation between the structural, electrical and electrochemical performance of layered Li(Ni0.33Co0.33Mn0.33)O2 for lithium ion battery

    The Li(Ni0.33Co0.33Mn0.33)O2 (LNCMO) cathode material is prepared by poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP)-assisted sol-gel/hydrothermal and poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly (ethylene glycol) (Pluronic-P123)-assisted hydrothermal methods. The compound prepared by PVP-assisted hydrothermal method shows a comparatively higher electrical conductivity of ~2 × 10−5 S cm−1 and exhibits a discharge capacity of 152 mAh g−1 in the voltage range of 2.5 to 4.4 V, for a C-rate of 0.2 C, whereas the compounds prepared by P123-assisted hydrothermal method and PVP-assisted sol-gel method show a total electrical conductivity in the order of 10−6 S cm−1 and result in poor electrochemical performance. The structural and electrical properties of LNCMO (active material) and its electrochemical performance are correlated. The difference in percentage of ionic and electronic conductivity contribution to the total electrical conductivity is compared by transference number studies. The cation disorder is found to be the limiting factor for the lithium ion diffusion as determined from ionic conductivity values. © 2015, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.1

Cardiospermum halicacabum L. is an Indian folklore medicinal plant and its family Sapindaceae. They have more potential in many biological activities with the presence of bioactive compounds. The aim of the present study was carried out by phytochemical screening and the GC MS analysis was proven leaf extract of Cardiospermum halicacabum L. was having important secondary metabolities are Alkaloids, Amino acids, Cardiac Glycosides, Flavonoids, Steriods, Terpenoids and Phenols are present in phytochemical screening and the 12 compounds are identified in GC MS studies Tricyclo 5.4.3.0 1,8 tetradecan 6 one, 4 ethenyl 33.50 and the lowest peak of compound is Aziridine, 2 1,1 dimethylethyl 3 methyl 0.10 and involving many biological activity, they are anti inflammatory, antineoplastic agent, Antigonistic, Antifungal, Antimicrobial, anthelmintic, Atitumor, protect cardiovascular diseases, Growth regulating activity, Anti ACHE in the treatment of Myasthenia Gravis, Antiarrhymthmic properties, Antihepatotoxic. Hence this study is revealed the bioactive compounds, and its molecular formula, weight, and biological activity.     Phytochemical analysis, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of wildand in vitro derived plants of Ceropegia thwaitesii Hook – An endemicspecies from Western Ghats, India

    Ceropegia thwaitesii Hook (Asclepiadaceae), an endemic plant species, due to habitat destruction and overexploitation has a very restricted distribution in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India. The presentwrok aimed to determine the chemical composition, the total phenolic (TPC), flavonoid (TFC) and tannincontent (TEC), and to assess the antioxidant properties of various extracts of in vivo plants (IVP) andin vitro regenerated plants (IRP) of C. thwaitesii. Some phenolic compounds like gallic acid, cathechol,vanillin and salicylic acid were identified and quantified by HPLC. All the extracts possessed relevant rad-ical scavenging activity on DPPH, Superoxide radical scavenging activity, and Nitric oxide radicals as wellas total antioxidant ability. DPPH assay of in vitro methanol stems extracts and ethanol leaves extractsrevealed the best antioxidant properties with important IC50values of 0.248 ± 0.45 mg/mL and 0.397 ±0.67 mg/mL, respectively, whereas in vivo chloroform stems extracts showed a lower antioxidant activity(IC50of 10.99 ± 0.24 mg/mL). The IRP methanol extracts of stem and leaves had good inhibitory activityagainst all tested microorganisms in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggested that in vitroraised plants of C. thwaitesii are an excellent source of antioxidant compounds to be exploited on anindustrial level as food additive

    Spin-crossover in iron(II)-phenylene ethynylene-2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl) pyridine hybrids: Toward switchable molecular wire-like architectures

    Luminescent oligo(p-phenylene ethynylene) (OPE) and spin-crossover (SCO) active Fe(II)-2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl) pyridine (BPP) systems are prominent examples proposed to develop functional materials such as molecular wires/memories. A marriage between OPE and Fe(II)-BPP systems is a strategy to obtain supramolecular luminescent ligands capable of metal coordination useful to produce novel spin-switchable hybrids with synergistic coupling between spin-state of Fe(II) and a physical property associated with the OPE skeleton, for example, electronic conductivity or luminescence. To begin in this direction, two novel ditopic ligands, namely L1 and L2, featuring OPE-type backbone end-capped with metal coordinating BPP were designed and synthetized. The ligand L2 tailored with 2-ethylhexyloxy chains at the 2 and 5 positions of the OPE skeleton shows modulated optical properties and improved solubility in common organic solvents relative to the parent ligand L1. Solution phase complexation of L1 and L2 with Fe(BF4)2•6H2O resulted in the formation of insoluble materials of the composition [Fe(L1)]n(BF4)2n and [Fe(L2)]n(BF4)2n as inferred from elemental analyses. Complex [Fe(L1)]n(BF4)2n underwent thermal SCO centred at T 1/2 = 275 K as well as photoinduced low-spin to high-spin transition with the existence of the metastable high-spin state up to 52 K. On the other hand, complex [Fe(L2)]n(BF4)2n, tethered with 2-ethylhexyloxy groups, showed gradual and half-complete SCO with 50% of the Fe(II)-centres permanently blocked in the high-spin state due to intermolecular steric interactions. The small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) pattern of the as-prepared solid complex [Fe(L1)]n(BF4)2n revealed the presence of nm-sized crystallites implying a possible methodology towards the template-free synthesis of functional-SCO nanostructures
