Robert Buchanan 1841-1901: an assessment of his career.
No full textPhDRobert Buchanan was widely regarded during his
lifetime as a poet of distinction, a capable and powerful
novelist, and a critic of some perception, yet his name is
now associated only with one regrettable episode, while
those of lesser men and women continue to be remembered for
work inferior to his. A man possessing large reserves of
energy, and pressed to write for a living at an early age,
he produced much work that deserves the oblivion it has
found; but his early verse, expressing his profound compassion
for the sufferings of the unfortunate in the simplest
language, some of his ballads, and not a little of his
later more vatic verse, is still worthy of study. As a
novelist his work is provocative and readable, but too
often descends to the level of the sentimental melodrama
which earned him, for a while, a very good income from the
stage. As a critic he was not profound, but was quick to
detect and praise expression of his own sympathy for humanity
that came to represent for him art's highest aspiration;
Dickens, Browning and Whitman were his heroes, and for the
last two he did sterling work in helping them to gain widespread
recognition. As a polemist he rushed into several
arenas, for some of which his talents were not especially
suited; but he publicly supported C. S. Parnell and Oscar
Wilde when few found the courage to do so. An interesting
man of impressive variety and undoubted talent has found an
undeserved neglect, and a full-scale critical biography of
Robert Buchanan is long overdue

Author-level metrics: Its impact on scholarly output evaluation among various publication metrics
No full textPublication metrics indicate the visibility and reach of a research publication. The metrics can be at article-level, author-level, and journal-level to measure the scholarly output and its impact.1 Bibliometrics is the use of statistical methods to analyze various publications mostly used in the field of library and information science; whereas, scientometrics is the sub-field concerned with the science of metrics for the measurement and analysis of scholarly publications.2,3 Readers are not always well informed about the various publication metrics, and use them without knowing how to interpret them, their strength and limitations.4,5
The Internet has revolutionized the dissemination, visibility, and impact of documented evidence available on the Web. The author-level metrics (ALmetrics) provides a measure for the research output of an individual author.6 It summarizes and aggregates the impact of an author\u27s publications by using metrics like h-index (Hirsch-index7, calculated from the number of articles N by an author that have each received at least N citations), i10-index (measures the number of publications with at least 10 citations, Google Scholar), g-index (an improvement of h-index by giving more weight to highly-cited articles), e-index (differentiates between scientists with similar h-indices but different citation patterns) and others.8
The h-index (proposed by J.E. Hirsch in 2005) is a well-accepted metric to assess the scientific impact of an individual author and/or institution due to its simplicity for cumulative research output to indicate a number of papers (h) with at least h citations, e.g. h-index 9 means that among all publications by an author, 9 publications have at least 9 citations each.9,10 Various other new additions are proposed to complement the h-index to minimize its shortcomings in calculations of the index due to co-authors, self/collaborative citation, publication age, publication count, etc.11 The h-core is a contextualized evaluation considered more useful.12 Combination of newer variants help complement and eliminate some of the limitations of h-index, for example, R-index (to measure citation intensity of h-score) and AR-index (to include the age of publications).13 14 The w-index is another simple and useful improvement to the h-index to assess the integrated impact of a researcher\u27s work.15 The rh-index (robust h-index) adds value for the self- and collaborative citation.1
Switch for Register Selection in a Magnetic-Core Memory
No full textThe practicability of the magnetic core as the basic storage element in a high-speed digital computer has been established with the installation and successful operation of the banks of core storage in the WWI computer. It has long been realized that the basic function of a memory system, storage and switching, can be performed in many different ways using cores. Some techniques for performing these functions, especially selection, are explored and analyzed in this paper.

Hello Rebels Family!
It's easy to believe that the rich and famous are born well...rich and famous. Not so! On the
way to being famous...Gwen Stefani worked at Dairy Queen, Madonna was fired from Dunkin'
Donuts, Brad Pitt handed out flyers wearing a chicken suit for El Polio Loco, Rachel McAdams
was a server at McDonald's and Beyonce was swept up hair in her mother's salon. There are
jobs you will have before you 'make it' too. Some you will enjoy. And some - not so much.
On my way to becoming a teacher I was a waiter, a landscaper, a tree planter, and a
bartender. Some of these jobs I liked and some I hated. But ALL of these jobs brought me to
the profession I love and shaped who I have become.
At W.R. Myers High School we are proud of being a school where every student can find an
avenue for success and in being part of a community where everyone in the Rebel family
strives to find the best in themselves and others. As Christian Larson said, "Believe in yourself
and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle."
Remember that you are the star of your own life and that, with hard work, your dreams will become reality!

Wow! What a year! I chose "REBEL RESILIENCE" as the yearbook theme this year as I thought it was rather fitting given our
current 'COVID-1 9' situation. Some of you are already VERY RESILIENT, while others may feel like you are not. One thing is
for sure - you can always WORK on becoming MORE resilient.
Here are 10 ways you can work on becoming more resilient:
Have the courage to be imperfect
Take time for yourself
Sign up for that course, join that club
Be active every day in as many ways as you can
Spend time with people who make you feel good
Laugh out loud each day
Invite your neighbor (friend) over for a cup of tea (chat)
Do one thing now that you've been putting off
Focus more on things you can control

Thank you to all those who gave me a big smile (or at least didn't run away) when I put the camera in front of your face! I
apologize to those teams I missed getting photos of (that actually had the opportunity to play). Because this year is unlike any
other, I also decided to change up the color scheme from the traditional red/black/yellow! I would love some feedback on
this decision (love it/dislike it etc).
A huge shout-out to a stellar group of grade 9's who helped me with the yearbook in June (Madisen and Bryden O'Connor,
Kiernan Gyepesi, Will Evanson, Madison Reid, Heston Bevans and Allen Clements). Thank you specifically to Bryden O'Connor
for creating the color graphic used throughout the yearbook.
Some of the quotes found through out the yearbook were from the survey you filled out in the spring, which in, most cases,
does not have the author information and therefore simply states the grade level the quote came from. All other quotes with
Author Unknown" were found online and in most cases didn't have any author information either. In any case, my hope is
that they will either put a smile on your face, make you go 'hmm' or possibly even take time to pause and reflect on the

It was a sad reality that we all had to face this year with little to no athletic
competitions across the Province for High School Sport. But very thankfully, and
in true Rebel Spirit, we made the most of the situation and were able to organize
and provide our student-athletes with a few opportunities to participate in sport.
The Rebels made teams and practiced as much as they possibly could in football,
volleyball, cross-country, golf, basketball, and curling. Unfortunately, a few of our
traditional sports were not able to get off the ground in the Spring, but hopefully
that will only fuel the fire of the up and coming athletes for next season! We want
to give a big thanks to all those student-athletes and coaches who committed to
one or more of our teams during these tough, unprecedented circumstances, and
a special shout out to all the Grade 1 2 student-athletes for all of their years of
dedication to High School Sport!

The W.R. Myers Concert and
Stage Bands were unable to
perform this year due to COVID,
but we were lucky enough to still
be able to play our instruments.
Vince Gassi, a composer from
Toronto, was commissioned by
the W.R. Myers Band Parent
Association to write a piece for
the Concert Band. The band
students met with Mr. Gassi via
Zoom in October to talk to him
about the piece and the writing
process. He completed the piece
for us in January and we began
working on it. Again the band
students met with Mr. Gassi on
Zoom for him to listen to us play
and give feedback. But
unfortunately due to the COVID
restrictions, we were unable to
premier the piece. Hopefully,
next year we will be able to play
Tomorrow Shines Soon.

..had the opportunity to be a part of the "Minister's Youth Council." The Minister's Youth Council consists of 40 junior and senior high school students (in
Alberta) all of which have many diverse interests, perspectives, and backgrounds. Students get the opportunity to share their perspectives on many different
topics in education. Over the last couple of years students on this council have worked with the Alberta Government Education Department, MLA's,
industry professionals, teachers and school boards to help better education in out province. Specifically, these students helped inform a vaping policy from
Edmonton Public Schools, assisted in the creation of Bill 1 9 which aims to reduce vaping use in Alberta and helped shape the Ministerial Order on Student
Learning.

Sayge Turcato was in the Alberta
High School Rodeo Provincials
Finals at the beginning of June
she went into the finals as the
season leader in the Barrel
Racing and she was 8th in
District 1 for the Breakaway
Roping with a few go round wins
she ended up winning the
Alberta Finals in the Barrel
Racing and placing 4th in the
Breakaway. That qualified Sayge
to go to the National High School
Rodeo Finals 2021 in Lincoln,
Nebraska.
Way to go Sayge!!
Kayce Liptak has also had a great showing this year
so far. She placed 2nd at Provincials, just behind
Sayce Turcato. This meant that she also qualified to
go to the National High School Rodeo Finals 2021
in Lincoln, Nebraska.

after a short shutdown the Lacrosse league got the green light to play. And play they did! If you enjoy watching
playing a high-intensity, high-contact sport, then this is a game for you! With the Lacrosse league in its infancy in
^ber (this is just the second season of play) the team did a stellar job working on basic skills, learning plays, and
Alling as a team unit. They definitely had their ups and downs where the scoreboard was concerned. But considering

No full textabstract: Rapid urbanization of the planet is occurring at an unprecedented pace, primarily in arid and semi-arid hot climates [Golden, J.S., 2004. The built environment induced urban heat island effect in rapidly urbanizing arid regions – a sustainable urban engineering complexity. Environ. Sci. J. Integr. Environ. Res. 1 (4), 321–349]. This growth has manifested itself as a cause of various impacts including elevated urban temperatures in comparison to rural sites known as the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect [Oke, T.R., 1982. The energetic basis of the urban heat island. Q. J. R. Meteor. Soc. 108, 1–24]. Related are the increased demands for electric power as a result of population growth and increased need for mechanical cooling due to the UHI. In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency has developed a three-prong approach of (1) cool pavements, (2) urban forestry and (3) cool roofs to mitigate the UHI. Researchers undertook an examination of micro scale benefits of the utilization of photovoltaic panels to reduce the thermal impacts to surface temperatures of pavements in comparison to urban forestry. The results of the research indicate that photovoltaic panels provide a greater thermal reduction benefit during the diurnal cycle in comparison to urban forestry while also providing the additional benefits of supporting peak energy demand, conserving water resources and utilizing a renewable energy source.Corresponding Author:
