Das Äthiopien in Adolph Knigges Roman: Realität oder Hilfsmittel

    No full text
The German Adolph Knigge (1752–96), an exponent of the Age of Enlightenment, is the author of a novel, which he gave a title including some Ethiopian elements. This article seeks to answer three questions: 1. How far the description of Knigge’s Ethiopia does agree with the “real” Ethiopia. 2. What could have been the sources of his information and knowledge. 3. Why did he choose Ethiopia as peg, though he was not writing for Ethiopianists or people alike. It is obvious that for the description of the fictitious Ethiopian novel Knigge took the information from Bruce’s travel report. And it is obvious that he was familiar with Ludolf and his time. Knigge being interested in a success of his publications could rely on a sales promoting effect of the book title because of the background of information of his 18th century readership

The Story of a Winter Journey With Dogs Across Northern North America, 1872-3; Daniel Williams Harmon, A Journey of Voyage and Travels in the Interior of North America; Cadwallader Colden, A History of the Five Indian Nations of Canada Which Are Dependent Upon the Province of New York; la edición del propio John Bach MacMaster, History of the Expedition Under the Command of Captains Lewis and Clarck to the Sources of the Missouri; Alexander Mackenzie, Voyages from Montreal Through the Continent of North America to the Frozen and Pacific Oceans in 1789 and 1793; The Journey of Coronado, 1540-42 (trad. y ed. de George Parker Winship y Edward Gaylord Bourne), Narratives of the Carreer of Hernando de Soto in the Conquest of Florida, 1539-1542. On the Art of War and Mode of Warfare of the Ancient Mexicans (1877), On the Social Organization and Mode of Government of the Ancient Mexicans (1879), Report of an Arquaeological Tour in Mexco in 1881 (1884).

The use of electronic record management system at selected TVET college

    No full text
This research investigates the implementation of Electronic Records Management Systems (ERMS) at specific Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in Limpopo, particularly emphasising Capricorn TVET College. The research seeks to improve administrative efficiency by tackling the difficulties associated with good record management. Critical issues examined encompass barriers to ERMS implementation, its advantages, and the correlation between staff productivity and technological acceptability. A quantitative research methodology was employed, utilising a cross-sectional descriptive design. Data were gathered from 180 administrative personnel at Capricorn TVET College using standardised questionnaires. The research concentrated on identifying obstacles to ERMS implementation, advantages of the system, and its effect on work performance. Research demonstrates that ERMS markedly enhances administrative performance through improved efficiency, collaboration, and data security. The results indicate that ERMS promotes administrative efficiency, bolsters data security, and minimises errors. Nonetheless, insufficient training and reluctance to change were recognised as major obstacles to acceptance. The perceived utility and user-friendliness of the system were pivotal elements affecting employee adoption and performance enhancement

Aisopou Mythoi/Fabulae Aesopicae Graecae Quae Maximo Planudi Tribuuntur

    No full text
The full title reads this way: Aisopou mythoi Fabulae Aesopicae Graecae quae Maximo Planudi tribuuntur ad veterum librorum fidem emendatas Ioannis Hudsonis suisque adnotationibus illustratas atque indice verborum locupletissimo instructas edidit Io. Michael Heusinger curavit et praefatus est Christ. Adolph. Klotzius. The book is easy to find online; it seems to be the only book that comes up if one Googles Wittekindt, although this edition may be a reprint of a 1770 edition also done by Wittekindt. The book has three parts: a lengthy unpaginated introduction; 120 pages of some 149 fables and their variants; and a Greek/Latin dictionary of all the vocables that occur in Aesop's fables. This third section has a two-page addition cataloguing items explained in the notes. The whole comes, online sources say, to 288 pages. The introductory section includes a preface by Klotz; a catalogue of manuscripts by Heusinger, a preface to the reader by Hudson; and sixty-eight ancient testimonies to Aesop and the fables. For those confused by the shortened and Latinized names on the title-page, here are more complete and modern names: Christian Adolph Klotz edited this book, following on the work of editor and commentator John Hudson with Johann Michael Heusinger's index verborum. The publisher is Johann Georg Ernst Wittekindt. This is a hardbound book (hard cover)Language note: GreekJoannis Hudsonis, Io. Michael Heusinger, Christ. Adolph. Klotziu
