Electron-Pair Resonance in the Coulomb Blockade
We study many-body corrections to the cotunneling current via a localized state with energy epsilon(d) at large bias voltages V. We show that the transfer of electron pairs, enabled by the Coulomb repulsion in the localized level, results in ionization resonance peaks in the third derivative of the current with respect to V, centered at eV = +/- 2 epsilon(d)/3. Relationships between mobile phone usage and activity-travel behavior: A review of the literature and an example
Almost everyone has a mobile phone today. In addition to calls and text messages, people are utilizing mobile apps and websites to connect to the world and explore different content anytime and anywhere. The use of smart phones generates billions of records, including spatiotemporal trajectories, and various mobile phone usage details, such as call duration, and frequency of visiting a certain type of website. Most transportation researchers have only focused on spatiotemporal traces, which represent activity-travel behavior of users. However, it is worth making full use of smart phone data to study how mobile phone usage is related to activity-travel behavior. This chapter first reviews the existing literature on the relevant topics to demonstrate the lack of research on the relationship between mobile internet usage and activity-travel behavior. Decentralized multi-agent path finding framework and strategies based on automated negotiation
This paper introduces a negotiation framework to solve the Multi-Agent Path Finding (MAPF) Problem for self-interested agents in a decentralized fashion. The framework aims to achieve a good trade-off between the privacy of the agents and the effectiveness of solutions. Accordingly, a token-based bilateral negotiation protocol and two negotiation strategies are presented. The experimental results over four different settings of the MAPF problem show that the proposed approach could find conflict-free path solutions albeit suboptimally, especially when the search space is large and high-density. In contrast, Explicit Estimation Conflict-Based Search (EECBS) struggles to find optimal solutions. Besides, deploying a sophisticated negotiation strategy that utilizes information about local density for generating alternative paths can yield remarkably better solution performance in this negotiation framework.Interactive Intelligenc
Quantifying entanglement in open quantum systems: The quantum measurement in the era of noisy quantum computers
Orbital multicriticality in spin-gapped quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnets
Motivated by the quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet CaV(2)O(4), we explore spin-orbital systems in which the spin modes are gapped but orbitals are near a macroscopically degenerate classical transition. Within a simplified model we show that gapless orbital liquid phases possessing power-law correlations may occur without the strict condition of a continuous orbital symmetry. For the model proposed for CaV(2)O(4), we find that an orbital phase with coexisting order parameters emerges from a multicritical point. The effective orbital model consists of zigzag-coupled transverse field Ising chains. The corresponding global phase diagram is constructed using field theory methods and analyzed near the multicritical point with the aid of an exact solution of a zigzag XXZ model.Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany
Spin-charge coupling in quantum wires at zero magnetic field
We discuss an approximation for the dynamic charge response of nonlinear spin-1/2 Luttinger liquids in the limit of small momentum. Besides accounting for the broadening of the charge peak due to two-holon excitations, the nonlinearity of the dispersion gives rise to a two-spinon peak, which at zero temperature has an asymmetric line shape. At finite temperature the spin peak is broadened by diffusion. As an application, we discuss the density and temperature dependence of the Coulomb drag resistivity due to long-wavelength scattering between quantum wires
