It worked yesterday: On (re-)performing electroacoustic music
Playing electroacoustic music raises a number of challenges for performers such as dealing with obsolete or malfunctioning technology and incomplete technical documentation. Together with the generally higher workload due to the additional technical requirements the time available for musical work is significantly reduced. Many of the issues have their roots in composers, publishers, performers and promoters considering how their work process could easily be adapted to the additional demands of electroacoustic music. It was also found that the employment of music technologists cannot sufficiently make up for incomplete documentation and inadequate archiving of compositions. Using case studies made up of single compositions and whole concerts, solutions are proposed, which the several parties could effortlessly employ to considerably ease the process of preparing and performing electroacoustic music. Finally hands-on methods on how performers can deal with the situation as it is today are proposed. It is being hoped that by implementing these strategies not only better performances of electroacoustic music will be facilitated but also that electroacoustic works in general will enjoy a longer life-span in the future, thus enabling the sustenance of a vivid electroacoustic repertoire
Christoph Menke argues that the aesthetic subject has no place in the the tradition of the

Aesthetic Play and Ethic Sense. Aesthetics and Hermeneutics in Christoph Menke´s Theory of Tragedy
This paper is an investigation on the Theory and/or interpreting of Tragedy created by Christoph Menke. We take into account the thesis explained in his book La actualidad de la tragedia and other recent publications, and also those that the author presented previously in some essays published during the 90s. After comparing his contribution within the one included in Tentativa sobre lo trágico by Peter Szondi, the present paper focuses on the discussion that Menke has maintained with the modern Philosophy on Tragedy and especially with the version defended by Nietzsche about the same subject. We analyze the reason why Menke differs from the nietzscheanean conception of tragedy as an aesthetic play and we go deeper into his proposal to understand it in terms of unsolvable stress between the game aesthetic experience and the ethic experience of tragedy. The hypothesis we defend is based on the idea this renewal conception of Tragedy is result of another voluntary irresoluble tension in Menke´s own work: the tension product of an aesthetic conception and a hermeneutic conception of the literary work
Screening of extravascular findings in pulmonary embolism computer tomography: 397 patients with 1950 non-pulmonary artery findings
Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the possible benefits from computed tomography scans of patients with a suspected pulmonary artery embolism with a focus on relevant extravascular findings. Methods A total of 400 consecutive computed tomography pulmonary angiographies were evaluated. Computed tomography scans were analyzed in detail for the presence of pulmonary artery embolisms, as well as any other findings. Extra-artery discoveries were classified into none-relevant (Group A), intermediate (Group B), or relevant (Group C) findings. Results Aggregated computed tomography pulmonary angiographies detected other diagnosis than pulmonary artery embolism in 236 patients (59%). There were 1950 non-pulmonary artery embolism findings (4.9 per patient; n = 397). In the pulmonary artery embolism group, there were 447 extra-pulmonary artery embolism findings (5.2 per patient; n = 86) and in the non-pulmonary artery embolism group, 1503 findings (4.8 per patient; n = 311). Patients with pulmonary artery embolism had a significantly higher rate of pro-coagulate risk factors ( p < 0.001). Conclusions Computed tomography pulmonary angiographies may help to identify further diagnoses. This study represents a retrospective review of a single center experience for incidental computed tomography findings during pulmonary artery embolism work-up and emphasizes the importance of analyzing the whole field-of-view. </jats:sec
Long-term intraocular pressure changes in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration treated with ranibizumab
BACKGROUND/AIMS
To investigate the long-term effects of multiple intravitreal injections (IVTs) of ranibizumab (Lucentis) on intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.
METHODS
In 320 eyes, IOP measurements were performed at baseline prior to injection and compared with IOP measurements of the last visit. Correlations between mean IOP change and total number of IVTs, visual acuity or patient age were tested.
RESULTS
The mean IOP increase was 0.8 ± 3.1 mm Hg (p < 0.0001). Seven eyes showed final IOP values between 22 and 25 mm Hg. The mean follow-up was 22.7 ± 14.1 months. No further correlations between IOP change and number of IVTs, visual acuity or patient age have been found.
CONCLUSIONS
This study demonstrated a statistically significant IOP increase in patients treated with repeated injections of ranibizumab. However, IOP increase required no glaucoma treatment during the study. Therefore, repeated injections with ranibizumab can be considered safe with regard to long-term IOP changes in patients without ocular hypertension or glaucoma
