Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textAls Grundlage dieser Arbeit wird die vorrangehende Bachelorarbeit dienen. Diese beschäftige sich intensiv mit den Problemen des heutigen Stadtklimas und wie Stadtbegrünung eine Lösung dafür sein kann. Die theoretische Recherche in der ersten Arbeit wird nun, in Form eines begrünten Gebäudeentwurfs, praktisch umgesetzt.Hierfür wurde gezielt ein Grundstück im innerstädtischen Stadtraum in Graz ausgewählt. Wodurch ein weiteres aktuelles urbanes Problem, die notwendige Nachverdichtung in bereits vorhandenen Strukturen und der damit einhergehende, wachsende Druck auf städtischen Grünraum, aufgegriffen und behandelt wird. Zu Beginn wird in Form von unterschiedlichsten Analysen speziell auf das gewählte Grundstück eingegangen, um sich über diverse Vor- und Nachteile, sowie vorhandene Gegebenheiten des Standortes im Klaren zu werden. Diese Recherchen dienen als weitere Grundlage bei der Entwurfsfindung und werden Auswirkungen auf die Gebäudenutzung, Gebäudeform und Ausrichtung haben. Neben jenen Faktoren wird auch die Art der Bauwerksbegrünung, ob boden- oder wandbezogene Vegetationsfläche speziell auf das Grundstück abgestimmt sein. Umgebungsbebauung, Belichtung und Bodenversiegelung, sowie die Recherche von Gebäudebegrünungen in der ersten Bachelorarbeit werden hier eine wesentliche Rolle spielenDer entwickelte Gebäudeentwurf wird anschließend mit unterschiedlichen Planunterlagen und Visualisierungen dargestellt und soll als ein zusätzliches Vorzeigebeispiel für mehr Stadtbegrünung dienen.The preceding bachelor thesis will serve as the basis for this work. This thesis dealt intensively with the problems of today's urban climate and how urban greening can be a solution. The theoretical research in the first thesis will now be put into practice in the form of a green building design.For this purpose, a site in the inner city of Graz was chosen. Through this, another current urban problem, the necessary redensification in already existing structures and the associated, growing pressure on urban green space, is taken up and treated. At the beginning of the project, a variety of analyses will be carried out on the selected site in order to become aware of the various advantages and disadvantages as well as the existing conditions of the location. This research will serve as a further basis for the design process and will have an impact on the use of the building, its shape and orientation. In addition to those factors, the type of building greening, whether ground- or wall-based vegetation, will be specific to the site. The Raabhaus : a multifunctional town hall for a strong town centre of Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab
No full textBeim Raabhaus handelt es sich um einen Vorschlag für das neue Rathaus der steirischen Marktgemeinde Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab. Neben den administrativen Einrichtungen umfasst das Gebäude auch weitere Nutzungen, die es zu einem multifunktionalen und belebten Ort im Zentrum des bestehenden Dorfkerns machen. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird die Marktgemeinde umfassend untersucht und analysiert. Darüber hinaus werden das derzeitige Gemeindeamt sowie das bestehende Bankgebäude untersucht. Beide Bauten weisen aktuell erhebliche Defizite auf. Auf der einen Seite ist das Gemeindeamt veraltet, zu klein dimensioniert und entspricht längst nicht mehr den zeitgemäßen Standards. Auf der anderen Seite hat die Bank mit genau dem gegenteiligen Problem zu kämpfen. Als letzte verbliebene Bankfiliale im Ort leidet das Gebäude unter einer unzureichenden Auslastung, wodurch ein Großteil der Räumlichkeiten leer steht. Diese Masterarbeit greift beide Problematiken auf und entwickelt ein architektonisches Projekt, das als integrative Lösung dient. Der Entwurf trägt nicht nur zur funktionalen Verbesserung beider bei, sondern leistet auch einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Stärkung der historischen Ortsmitte. Eine zentrale Rolle spielt dabei der neu geschaffene Raabsaal, der als multifunktionaler Gemeindesaal auch zur Belebung des öffentlichen Raums beiträgt.The Raabhaus is a proposal for the new town hall of the Styrian market town of Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab. In addition to the administrative facilities, the building also includes other uses that make it a multifunctional and lively place in the centre of the existing village centre. As part of this work, the market town is comprehensively examined and analysed. In addition, the current municipal office and the existing bank building are analysed. Both buildings currently have considerable deficits. On the one hand, the municipal office is outdated, too small and no longer meets modern standards. On the other hand, the bank is struggling with exactly the opposite problem. As the last remaining bank branch in the town, the building suffers from underutilisation, leaving the majority of the premises empty. This master's thesis addresses both problems and develops an architectural project that serves as an integrative solution. The design not only contributes to the functional improvement of both, but also makes a significant contribution to strengthening the historic town centre.
