No full textEditada en la Fundación Empresa PúblicaEste artículo explora posibles vías de evolución de la historia económica en un futuro próximo. El autor pasa revista a la trayectoria de la disciplina durante las últimas décadas, con especial atención a la influencia de la revolución cliométrica, y argumenta que la historia económica pasa actualmente por una situación crítica. Para salir de ella, aboga por una mayor atención al cambio tecnológico y al cambio institucional, como temas distintivos del largo plazo, estrechando la cooperación con la economía del desarrollo, la economía del crecimiento, la economía neoinstitucional, la economía de la empresa y la economía del cambio tecnológico.This article explores possible ways in which economic history may evolve in the foreseeable future. The author starts with a review of the evolution of the discipline in past decades, with especial attention to the influx of the cliometric revolution, and contends that the economic history is presently passing through a critical situation. To overcome it, the author makes a plea for increasing attention towards economic and institutional change, seen as topics distinctive of the long run, and for a rapprochement to development economics, growth economics, neo-institutional economics, firm theory and economics of technical change.Publicad

No full textThis is an expanded version of Coll's book that was originally published c. 1919. Beginning with an account of dance history ranging from the ancient Greeks to late nineteenth-century dance, Coll declares that some of "most up to the minute dances" include the Carter Waltz and the Schottisch Espagnole. The author also discusses foxtrot variations and the Virginia Reel, and provides some cotillon figures (also known as the German). The dances described by Coll were long out of fashion by 1922

Rethinking the Heart of Empire: Indigenous Travellers in London, 1502-2015
No full textLondon is famed both as the ancient center of a former empire and as a modern metropolis of bewildering complexity and diversity. Coll Thrush offers an imaginative vision of the city\u27s past crafted from an almost entirely new perspective: that of Indigenous children, women, and men who traveled there, willingly or otherwise, from territories that became Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, beginning in the sixteenth century. They included captives and diplomats, missionaries and shamans, poets and performers. Thrush illustrates how London learned to be a global, imperial city and how Indigenous people were central to that process.
About the Lecturer: Coll Thrush (Fairhaven 1995) is professor of history at the University of British Columbia, where he is also affiliated with UBC’s Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies. He is the author of Indigenous London and Native Seattle: Histories from the Crossing-Over Place
