Forschungsrichtungen der Internettechnologie - Kein Tempolimit für die Datenautobahn
Während eine Vielzahl von Standardanwendungen der Internettechnologie fest in unser Arbeits- und Alltagslebenintegriert ist, arbeiten Forscher intensiv an neuen Anwendungen, verbesserten Sicherheitsstandards und benutzerfreundlicherenDiensten. Am Göttinger Institut für Informatik kamen im Juni diesen Jahres mit Unterstützungdes Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD) etwa 20 Wissenschaftler der Columbia University,New York, und der Georg-August-Universität zusammen, um sich über den Stand der Forschung im BereichInternettechnologie auszutauschen. Auf dem »1st Columbia-Göttingen Workshop on Internet Research«wurden auch für die Göttinger Forschung wichtige Themen der Internettechnologie präsentiert, die von drahtlosenTechnologien und Mobilkommunikation über Verkehrsanalyse und Stauvermeidungstechnologien, überOverlay und Peer-to-Peer-Netze bis hin zu Voice over IP und ortsbasierten Anwendungen reichten. Der Beitraggibt einen Einblick in den Stand wichtiger Bereiche der Technik und stimuliert die Diskussion über Visionen deszukünftigen Internets

How secure is the next generation of IP-based emergency services architecture?
For some location-based applications, such as emergency calling or roadside assistance, it appears that the identity of the requester is less important than accurate and trustworthy location information for accomplishing the main function. Accurate and genuine location is important for these applications to avoid misuse. In this paper we point to some ongoing efforts regarding transition emergency service architectures that could introduce security vulnerabilities unless countermeasures are developed. Furthermore, we summarize the ongoing work in providing cryptographic assertions for location. We argue that many of the currently proposed ideas are difficult to deploy and to operate. Additionally, when used without ensuring that the underlying assumptions are met these mechanisms do not provide any additional benefit, but costs. We conclude this article with a suggestion on what the research community and industry should be investigating to avoid potential problems with IP-based emergency services. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Calibrating Wireless Sensor Network Simulation Models with Real-World Experiments
This paper studies the energy-efficiency and service characteristics of a recently developed energy-efficient MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks in simulation and on a real sensor hardware testbed. This opportunity is seized to illustrate how simulation models can be verified by cross-comparing simulation results with real-world experiment results. The paper demonstrates that by careful calibration of simulation model parameters, the inevitable gap between simulation models and real-world conditions can be reduced. It concludes with guidelines for a methodology for model calibration and validation of sensor network simulation models
Polyglot CerberOS: Resource Security, Interoperability and Multi-Tenancy for IoT Services on a Multilingual Platform

The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to tackle a range of environmental challenges and deliver large efficiency gains in industry by embedding computational intelligence, sensing and control in our physical environment. Multiple independent parties are increasingly seeking to leverage shared IoT infrastructure, using a similar model to the cloud, and thus require constrained IoT devices to become microservice-hosting platforms that can securely and concurrently execute their code and interoperate. This vision demands that heterogeneous services, peripherals and platforms are provided with an expanded set of security guarantees to prevent third-party services from hijacking the platform, resource-level access control and accounting, and strong isolation between running processes to prevent unauthorized access to third-party services and data. This paper introduces Polyglot CerberOS, a resource-secure operating system for multi-tenant IoT devices that is realised through a reconfigurable virtual machine which can simultaneously execute interoperable services, written in different languages. We evaluate Polyglot CerberOS on IETF Class-1 devices running both Java and C services. The results show that interoperability and strong security guarantees for multilingual services on multi-tenant commodity IoT devices are feasible, in terms of performance and memory overhead, and transparent for developers.sponsorship: This research is partially funded by the Research Fund KU Leuven and the FWO D3-CPS project. Global, passive detection of connection tampering
In-network devices around the world monitor and tamper with connections for many reasons, including intrusion prevention, combating spam or phishing, and country-level censorship. Connection tampering seeks to block access to specific domain names or keywords, and it affects billions of users worldwide with little-to-no transparency. To detect, diagnose, and measure connection-level blocking, "active" measurement techniques originate queries with domains or keywords believed to be blocked and send them from vantage points within networks of interest. Active measurement efforts have been critical to understanding how traffic tampering occurs, but they inherently are unable to capture critical parts of the picture. For instance, knowing the set of domains in a block-list (i.e., what could get blocked) is not the same as knowing what real users are actively experiencing (i.e., what is actively getting blocked). We present the first global study of connection tampering through a passive analysis of traffic received at a global CDN, Cloudflare. We analyze a sample of traffic to all of Cloudflare's servers to construct the first comprehensive list of tampering signatures: sequences of packet headers that are indicative of connection tampering. We then apply these tampering signatures to analyze our global dataset of real user traffic, yielding a more comprehensive view of connection tampering than has been possible with active measurements alone. In particular, our passive analysis allows us to report on how connection tampering is actively affecting users and clients from virtually every network, without active probes, vantage points in difficult-to-reach networks and regions, or test lists (which we analyze for completeness against our results). Our study shows that passive measurement can be a powerful complement to active measurement in understanding connection tampering and improving transparency
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
