Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Como os projetos de aprendizagem podem desenvolver a autonomia dos alunos?
Get PDFEsta monografia apresenta uma experiência de trabalho através da metodologia por projetos de aprendizagens que após o seu desenvolvimento, transformou os alunos em indivíduos mais autônomos, críticos e atuantes na educação. Os alunos protagonistas das aprendizagens são do 5º Ano, do Ensino Fundamental de nove anos, de uma escola da periferia do Município de Novo Hamburgo. Ao falar em autonomia na educação reporto-me aos conceitos de autonomia descritos na Lei de Diretrizes e Bases (LDB), sobre os exemplos de autonomia vivenciados na Escola das Aves em Portugal, popularmente conhecida como a Escola da Ponte, na qual a autonomia está presente em tudo, tendo inclusive, um Contrato de Autonomia assinado pelos pais, alunos e professores e descobri que o Projeto Político Pedagógico (PPP) de minha escola não cita nenhum conceito de autonomia. Para desenvolver a pesquisa, trabalhei com os Projetos de Aprendizagem através de uma metodologia construtivista, que visa promover o aprendizado baseado em indagações, permitindo que os alunos, através de questões norteadoras, construíssem a busca pela aprendizagem. Essa metodologia se difere das demais, pois o assunto a ser estudado é decidido pelos próprios alunos através de perguntas. Para a escolha do tema leva-se em consideração o interesse e a curiosidade. Os alunos se unem por grupos de acordo com afinidades e interesse de assuntos. O aluno é o centro da aprendizagem e o professor um mediador, um desafiador e problematizador. O trabalho com os projetos fomentou debates pesquisas, leituras e escritas de novos textos, ampliando a visão de mundo dos alunos envolvidos no processo. Os recursos tecnológicos também são abordados nessa pesquisa por estarem diretamente envolvidos no processo de promover autonomia. Nosso foco nas aulas foi à apropriação de diversos tipos de recursos tecnológicos e de mídias, como o uso de blog, emails, filmes, internet, entre outros, para interagirmos no espaço virtual. Dentro desse contexto, destaco exemplos de autonomia que ocorreram após o desenvolvimento dos Projetos de Aprendizagem sob cinco aspectos: Fora dos muros da escola; Na construção política; Socializando aprendizagens e Transformando a educação. Fora dos muros da escola fala especificamente do desenvolvimento da autonomia através das ferramentas tecnológicas e seu uso para a vida. Na construção política, os alunos passaram a ter uma postura mais crítica e começaram a conhecer e refletir sobre os seus direitos. A democracia da Grécia Antiga estabeleceu três direitos fundamentais que definiam o cidadão: igualdade, liberdade e participação, era exatamente isso que eles queriam. Em Socializando aprendizagens, retrata a contribuição que os alunos traziam para as aulas e de como a aprendizagem é constituída através da interação social, aos valores e aspirações coletivas e também à dimensão política da educação. No sub capítulo Transformando a educação, discorro sobre a contribuição dos alunos na construção de uma escola cidadã, onde o objetivo principal era construir um plano estratégico de educação que foram debatidos os seguintes eixos: 1) Conhecimento e currículo-tempos e espaços na escola; 2) Avaliação; 3) Gestão Democrática; 4) Princípios de Convivência; 5) Inclusão, Diversidade e Igualdade; 6) Educação Ambiental e Sustentabilidade. Através dos debates e discussões, os alunos criaram princípios e diretrizes, Os alunos demonstraram muita autonomia na discussão desses eixos. Através do posicionamento dos alunos frente às questões que estavam sendo discutidas, houve uma ampliação da aprendizagem que se tornou capaz de transformar a realidade.This monograph presents an experience of working through the methodology for projects after learning that its development has transformed the students have more autonomy, critical and active in education. The protagonists of the students are learning the 5th year of elementary education of nine years, a school on the outskirts of the city of Novo Hamburgo. In speaking of autonomy in education I refer to the concepts of autonomy outlined in the Guidelines and Bases (LDB), on the examples of autonomy experienced in the School of birds in Portugal, popularly known as the Bridge School, in which autonomy is present in everything, including having a contract signed by Autonomy parents, students and teachers and found that the Political Project (PPP) in my school does not cite any concept of autonomy. To develop the research, worked with the Learning Projects through a constructivist methodology, which aims to promote inquiry-based learning, allowing students through guided questions, build the quest for learning. This methodology differs from the others, because the subject to be studied is determined by the students through questions. To choose the theme takes into account the interest and curiosity. Students join groups according to interests and affinities of subjects. The student is the center of learning and the teacher a mediator, a challenging and problematical. Work with research projects fostered discussions, readings of new texts and writings, expanding the worldview of the students involved. The technological capabilities are also addressed in this research because they are directly involved in promoting autonomy. Our focus in class was the appropriation of various types of technological resources and media, such as using blogs, emails, movies, internet, among others, to interact in virtual space. Within this context, I highlight examples of autonomy that occurred after the development of Learning Projects in five respects: Outside the school walls, the construction policy; Socializing Transforming learning and education. Outside the school walls talks specifically about the development of autonomy through the technological tools and their use for life. In political construction, students now have a more critical and began to learn and reflect on their rights. The democracy of ancient Greece has established three basic rights that defined the citizen: equality, freedom and participation, this was exactly what they wanted. Socializing in learning, depicts the contribution that students brought to class and how learning is constituted through social interaction, values and collective aspirations and also to the political dimension of education. In sub chapter Transforming education, I wonder about the contribution of the students in building a school for citizenship, where the main objective was to build a strategic plan for education that were discussed the following topics: 1) Knowledge and curriculum-time and space in school; 2) Evaluation, 3) Democratic Management, 4) Principles of Coexistence ", 5) Inclusion, Diversity and Equality; 6) Environmental Education and Sustainability. Through the debates and discussions, the students created principles and guidelines, students showed a lot of autonomy in the discussion of these axes. Through the placement of students in relation to matters that were being discussed, there was an expansion of learning that she was able to transform reality

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
