Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Quality of life and worker’s ultra-processed consumption
No full textIntroduction: The quality of life (QOL) of workers is related to their work, falling within the field of public health. Objective: The perception of the domains of QOL and consumption of ultra-processed foods, nutritional status, and area of performance of employees of a health cooperative was evaluated. Materials and methods: In the cross-sectional study, composed of 92 employees, the WHOQOL questionnaire was applied, plus a questionnaire for nutritional status and information on consumption of ultra-processed products and area of activity. Kruskal-Wallis and Pearson's Correlation tests were used, adopting a significance level of p≤0.05. Results: An inverse correlation was found between the average daily consumption of ultra-processed foods and the physical, psychological, and social QOL domains (p=0.039, p=0.02 and p≤0.01). The average of the psychological domain was lower among obese individuals (p=0.046) and the average of the environmental domain was higher among health workers (p=0.004). Discussion: The QOL domains were important for actions inherent to the health-disease process and its interference in workers' income. It was highlighted that the relationship between the anthropometric profile, quality of food, feelings, and perceptions in relation to the workplace, has great relevance in daily tasks. Conclusion: The highest average among the QOL domains was related to the social domain. The higher the average daily consumption of ultra-processed foods, the lower the average scores for the physical, psychological, and social domains. Obese people had a lower average in the psychological domain in relation to the other nutritional states, demonstrating the need for action in relation to food choices and in all areas of QOL.Introduzione: La qualità della vita (QoL) dei lavoratori è correlata al loro lavoro, rientrando nel campo della salute collettiva. Obiettivo: Sono stati valutati la percezione dei domini QOL e il consumo di alimenti ultra-lavorati, lo stato nutrizionale e l'area di attività dei dipendenti di una cooperativa sanitaria. Materiali e metodi: Nello studio trasversale, composto da 92 dipendenti, è stato applicato il questionario WHOQOL, più un questionario per lo stato nutrizionale e le informazioni sul consumo di alimenti ultralavorati e area di attività. Sono stati utilizzati i test di correlazione di Kruskal-Wallis e Pearson, adottando un livello di significatività di p≤0,05. Risultati: c'era una correlazione inversa tra il consumo medio giornaliero di alimenti ultra-elaborati e i domini di QOL fisica, psicologica e sociale (p=0,039, p=0,02 e p≤0,01). La media del dominio psicologico era più bassa tra gli obesi (p=0,046) e la media del dominio ambientale era più alta tra quelli che lavoravano nell'area sanitaria (p=0,004). Discussione: I domini QOL erano importanti per le azioni inerenti al processo salute-malattia e la sua interferenza nelle prestazioni dei lavoratori. È stato evidenziato che il rapporto tra profilo antropometrico, qualità del cibo, sentimenti e percezioni in relazione al luogo di lavoro, hanno grande rilevanza nelle attività quotidiane. Conclusione: la media più alta tra i domini QOL era relativa al dominio sociale. Più alto è il consumo medio giornaliero di alimenti ultra-lavorati, più bassi sono i punteggi medi negli ambiti fisico, psicologico e sociale. L'obeso presentava una media inferiore nel dominio psicologico rispetto agli altri stati nutrizionali, a dimostrazione della necessità di agire in relazione alle scelte alimentari e in tutti gli ambiti della QOL.Introdução: A qualidade de vida (QV) dos trabalhadores possui relação com o seu trabalho, inserindo-se no campo da saúde coletiva. Objetivo: Avaliou-se a percepção dos domínios de QV e consumo de alimentos ultraprocessados, estado nutricional e área de atuação de funcionários de uma cooperativa de saúde. Materiais e métodos: No estudo transversal, composto por 92 funcionários, foi aplicado o questionário WHOQOL mais um questionário para estado nutricional e informações sobre consumo de ultraprocessados e área de atuação. Utilizou-se testes Kruskal-Wallis e Correlação de Pearson, adotando-se nível de significância de p≤0,05. Resultados: Verificou-se correlação inversa entre a média do consumo diário de ultraprocessados e os domínios de QV físico, psicológico e social (p=0,039, p=0,02 e p≤0,01). A média do domínio psicológico foi menor entre obesos (p=0,046) e a média do domínio ambiental foi maior entre atuantes na área da saúde (p=0,004). Destacou-se que a relação entre o perfil antropométrico, qualidade da alimentação, sentimentos e percepções em relação ao local de trabalho, possuem grande relevância nas tarefas diárias. Conclusão: A maior média entre os domínios de QV foi referente ao domínio social. Quanto maior a média do consumo diário de ultraprocessados, menores as médias dos escores dos domínios físico, psicológico e social. Os obesos apresentaram menor média no domínio psicológico em relação aos demais estados nutricionais, demonstrando necessidade de atuação em relação às escolhas alimentares e em todos os âmbitos de QV.Introducción: La calidad de vida (CV) de los trabajadores está relacionada con su trabajo, encuadrándose en el campo de la salud colectiva. Materiales y métodos: En el estudio transversal, compuesto por 92 empleados, se aplicó el cuestionario WHOQOL, más un cuestionario de estado nutricional e información sobre consumo de alimentos ultraprocesados y área de actividad. Resultados: Hubo una correlación inversa entre el consumo promedio diario de alimentos ultraprocesados y los dominios de CV física, psicológica y social (p=0,039, p=0,02 y p≤0,01). El promedio del dominio psicológico fue menor entre los obesos (p=0,046) y el promedio del dominio ambiental fue mayor entre los que trabajan en el área de la salud (p=0,004). Discusión: Los dominios de la CV fueron importantes para acciones inherentes al proceso salud-enfermedad y su interferencia en el desempeño de los trabajadores. Se destacó que la relación entre el perfil antropométrico, la calidad de los alimentos, los sentimientos y percepciones en relación al lugar de trabajo, tienen gran relevancia en el quehacer diario. Conclusión: El promedio más alto entre los dominios de la CV se relacionó con el dominio social. Cuanto mayor sea el consumo medio diario de alimentos ultraprocesados, menores serán las puntuaciones medias en los dominios físico, psicológico y social. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
