The tools of AI will permit to handle a very large data-set, across many rich, middle income and an poor countries. No full textThis essay addresses the factors determining the satisfaction that volunteers derive from their own activity, and compares them with those determining the satisfaction of paid workers. The novelty of this approach is that volunteers and paid workers are compared within the same dataset (from Italy), using the same measure of rewards and reported satisfaction for both types of workers. The main findings are that volunteers are individuals who perform an activity which gives them satisfaction for a number of different reasons, and that, while the determinants of satisfaction are not exactly the same for volunteers and paid workers, both of them attach special consideration to the users' well-being. © 2009 Physica-Verlag Heidelberg
Da consorzi a parchi industriali? L’ «effetto consorzio» sulla performance delle imprese
No full textIn the recent literature, industrial parks have emerged as a potentially very important policy tool, which favours industrial development through the provision of services, consolidation of the industrial atmosphere, infrastructure and logistics, etc. In Italy, the equivalent of industrial parks are the so-called «consorzi industriali»: entities promoted by local authorities with the aim of providing convenient locations for manufacturing premises and providing infrastructure and other collective services. Our study exploits an unprecedented database, built through geo-referentiation of industrial premises which allows to distinguish those that are located in areas served by consortia. Therefore it is possible to compare the performance of the firms located in industrial parks with that of other firms at the national and regional scale. Our study suggests that this impact exists, but is very moderate; we try to interpret this result with the aim of providing insights useful for policy reform

No full textSi sono esaminati gli elementi di imprenditorialità nascente che si possono scorgere nelle microfiliere, caratterizzanti le filiere di qualità e quindi le possibilità di crescita, sia in termini di prodotto che di occupazione, delle filiere stesse e delle imprese che ne fanno parte.
Si è individuato nella figura dell’imprenditore il tratto cruciale che distingue la microfiliera di qualità da una mera forma di lavoro in proprio, a limitati livelli non solo di scala e di redditività, ma anche di competitività. Le possibilità di sviluppo sono aperte al primo tipo di impresa, mentre la seconda fronteggia spesso difficoltà di sopravvivenza.
Il principale risultato che si può trarre dalle interviste effettuate e’ che i fattori cognitivi influenzano la capacità imprenditoriale per eccellenza, che è quella di saper cogliere le opportunità Fattori individuali e ambientali si intrecciano nel configurare il patrimonio cognitivo di ognuno. In particolare, l’esistenza di reti, o di capitale sociale, ha un ruolo importante, sia nella trasmissione di modelli positivi, via la famiglia, la scuola, le associazioni e le organizzazioni di vario tipo, religiose e non, sia nel consentire fonti di finanziamento formali e informali
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
