Computational Approaches for Generating Electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model Sources

    No full text
Two different methodologies for generating an electromagnetic Gaussian-Schell model source are discussed. One approach uses a sequence of random phase screens at the source plane and the other uses a sequence of random complex transmittance screens. The relationships between the screen parameters and the desired electromagnetic Gaussian-Schell model source parameters are derived. The approaches are verified by comparing numerical simulation results with published theory. This work enables one to design an electromagnetic Gaussian-Schell model source with pre-defined characteristics for wave optics simulations or laboratory experiments. Abstract © OSA

    M\u3csup\u3e2\u3c/sup\u3e Factor of a Vector Schell-Model Beam

Extending existing scalar Schell-model source work, we derive the M2 factor for a general electromagnetic or vector Schell-model source to assess beam quality. In particular, we compute the M2 factors for two vector Schell-model sources found in the literature. We then describe how to synthesize vector Schell-model beams in terms of specified, desired M2 and present Monte Carlo simulation results to validate our analysis

    Power-law Schell-model Sources

    No full text
A new type of Schell-model source is developed that has a spectral degree of coherence, or spatial power spectrum, which is described by a power-law function. These power-law sources generally produce cusped, or peaked far-zone spectral density patterns making them potentially useful in directed energy applications. The spectral degrees of coherence, spatial power spectra, and spatial coherence radii for power-law sources are derived and discussed. Two power-law sources are then synthesized in the laboratory using a liquid crystal spatial light modulator. The experimental spectral densities are compared to the corresponding theoretical predictions to serve as a proof of concept

Evolution properties of multi-Gaussian Schell model beams propagating in uniaxial crystal orthogonal to the optical axis

    No full text
An analytical formula for the multi-Gaussian Schell model is derived for the beam propagating in a uniaxial crystal orthogonal to the optical axis. The propagation properties of multi-Gaussian Schell model beams in a uniaxial crystal orthogonal to the optical axis is investigated by using the analytical formula. Some results are illustrated by numerical examples related to the propagation properties of multi-Gaussian Schell model beams. It is found that the propagation properties of the multi-Gaussian Schell model beams are very different from the propagation properties in the free space. They are closely related to the initial coherence and the ratio of the extraordinary and ordinary refractive indices. The results provide a way for studying the propagation properties of the multi-Gaussian Schell model beams in the uniaxial crystal orthogonal to the optical axis

Nowe spojrzenie na planowanie architektury mieszkaniowej w afryce subsaharyjskiej

The author shares his reflections on state of art in housing and urban planning, deficiencies, expectations and possibilities in the Sahel region of Africa. He notices, that the housing problem in Africa is one of the challenges, which should be solved in order to recover life dignity of African people and secure their rights to traditional family life in acceptable conditions. The paper describes the studies on the typical dispersed urban structures and the need to foster this type of settlement structure and proposals of introduction of new on light steel frame housing system in the area of Sahel, combining the traditional way of building houses with modern technology. The particularly analysed case, is the housing problem in the Republic of Chad. The author presents the basic discussion on this topic and his architectural proposals. Unfortunately, the gap between the needs and the financial feasibility of housing construction in this area, makes this project already at the starting point extremely difficult to be realized without external subventions.
