Recourse against Judgments in the Netherlands
No full textIn the 1980s, the Netherlands witnessed the start of a comprehensive programme of reform in the fields of judicial organisation and procedure. The reform programme consists of three stages, of which the first has now been completed. This has, amongst other things, resulted in the consolidation of several administrative procedures which were formerly adjudicated by different judicial bodies, in the Arrondissementsrechtbank. Consequently, the Arrondissementsrechtbank has obtained extensive administrative jurisdiction together with its jurisdiction in civil and criminal cases. As part of the reforms in the second stage, a bill has been submitted to Parliament which contains changes in the court structure. It is proposed to abolish the Kantongerecht and to reallocate its jurisdiction to the Arrondissementsrechtbank, transforming the latter court into a general first-instance court. In addition, the bill contains changes in the Code of Civil Procedure. In the present report the author discusses the current situation January 1998

In a series of papers, Brock and Hommes, propose to model economic and financial markets as adaptive belief systems. Asset price fluctuations in adaptive belief systems are characterized by phases of close-to-the-fundamental-price fluctuations, phases of optimism where most agents follow an upward price trend, and phases of pessimism with small or large market crashes. In this paper will be discussed the EMH benchmark and forecasting rules of fundamentals and trend extrapolators. No full textI admit that I have read only two pages of this book (154-5). It seems a non-stop barrage of one-liners. The author does indeed, as the cover illustration suggests, take the bull by the horns! I picked the book up because its frontispiece of Aesop's fox and crow depicts the book's insight: The fox admires the cheese, not the raven (154). My two pages had lots of good zingers in them, like He who believes in promises made at elections has long ears, and may try to eat thistles. I suspect there are many more fable-related proverbs along the way in the book, but for now I will let someone else find them. No full text(english version below) Unter den verschiedenen Formen, literarische Texte zu sammeln und zu erschließen, zählt deren Gruppierung zu einem Œuvre mit Sicherheit zu den gängigsten: Das Œuvre als Summe aller Werke eines bestimmten Autors wird dabei oft an scheinbar objektivierbaren Kriterien wie Werkbestand (Gesamtwerk) oder Autorbiographie (Spätwerk, Lebenswerk) gemessen und gleichsam als selbstverständlich betrachtet. Werkpolitik in der Antike fragt demgegenüber nach den Voraussetzungen (und ebenso nach den Auswirkungen) der Orientierung am Œuvre. Die lateinische Literatur der späten Republik und des augusteischen Prinzipats erweist sich für die Genese eines emphatischen Begriffes des auktorialen Corpus als formativ: Die Umwälzungen im literarischen Betrieb dieser Epoche, nicht zuletzt die Gründung öffentlicher Bibliotheken, bedingten bei Autoren, Kritikern und Lesern eine erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit für die Begründung von Werkzusammenhängen, welche die Idee des Œuvres nachhaltig prägte. In vier Studien zu Cicero, Vergil, Horaz und Ovid wird nachgezeichnet, wie sowohl innerhalb der literarischen Werke selbst wie in deren Rezeption bestimmte Vorstellungen von Lebens- und Gesamtwerk Gestalt annehmen konnten. **** Of the various forms of collecting and cataloguing literary texts, classification as part of an authorial œuvre is one of the most common. The notion of the œuvre is often legitimised with regard to seemingly objective criteria, such as the extent or chronology of an author’s production, and its implications are thus downplayed and glossed over. By contrast, the present study explores the specific preconditions (and repercussions) of privileged status accorded to the idea of the authorial corpus. It argues that Late Republican and Augustan Latin literature is an especially momentous time in the history of the literary œuvre. The significant changes in literary culture that this period witnessed, not least the establishment of public libraries in Rome, led to an increasing awareness of and attention to the formation of textual corpora among literary practitioners, critics and readers, which has in turn had a formative influence on the idea of the authorial corpus. In four case studies, on Cicero, Virgil, Horace, and Ovid, the book highlights the different ways in which the œuvre is envisaged and formed, both within the literary works themselves and in their reception
