Um percurso diacrônico sobre as articulações entre ética e estética na semiótica de A. J. Greimas
No full textA presente pesquisa se propõe a estudar como a ética e a estética são articuladas na semiótica de origem estruturalista, a partir da perspectiva de um percurso diacrônico fundamentado nos desenvolvimentos teóricos e metodológicos realizados por Algirdas Julien Greimas. O estudo bibliográfico e diacrônico organiza-se com base nas datas de publicação dos trabalhos do autor e de acordo com a relação destes com a problemática da articulação da ética e da estética no desenvolvimento de sua teoria, abrangendo mais de 40 anos de produção intelectual e computando trabalhos das suas mais diversas fases – desde antes de ele utilizar o termo semiótica até a sua última obra individual. Nosso objetivo consiste em acompanhar o percurso do desenvolvimento do arcabouço teórico e metodológico de A. J. Greimas para que possamos evidenciar os processos que permitiram a constituição de modelos analíticos capazes de depreender as articulações dos valores estéticos e dos valores éticos nos mais diversos objetos e interações – desde narrativas míticas até pinturas abstratas e interações entre sujeitos. As hipóteses a serem testadas são as seguintes: (I) a ética e a estética estão relacionadas à questão da significação, da construção e da apreensão do sentido; (II) a articulação proposta pela semiótica entre estes conceitos realiza uma abordagem tanto hipotáxica quanto hiponímica; (III) a articulação da ética e da estética constitui as bases das interrogações da metodologia semiótica; (IV) a problemática da ética e da estética se encontra presente no pensamento de Greimas desde seus primeiros trabalhos. Assim, a importância deste trabalho reside na possibilidade de visualizar as interações entre estes dois termos por meio das estruturas semióticas que definem e articulam a ética e a estética, bem como o isomorfismo entre o plano do conteúdo e o plano da expressão. Esse percurso reconstruiu a rede de relações formais pensadas por Greimas, capaz de ilustrar a presença da ética e da estética nas diferentes interações e objetos, bem como evidenciar o tratamento dado pela semiótica na articulação destes conceitos para a construção e apreensão do sentidoThis research aims to study how ethics and aesthetics are articulated in semiotics of structuralist origin, from the perspective of a diachronic path based on the theoretical and methodological developments carried out by Algirdas Julien Greimas. The bibliographic and diachronic study is organized based on the dates of publication of the author’s works and according to their relation with the problem of the articulation of ethics and aesthetics in the development of his theory, covering more than 40 years of intellectual production and computing work from its most diverse phases - from before he used the term semiotics to his last individual work. Our objective is to follow the path of the development of the theoretical and methodological framework of A. J. Greimas so that we can highlight the processes that allowed the constitution of analytical models capable of understanding the articulations of aesthetic values and ethical values in the most diverse objects and interactions - from mythical narratives to abstract paintings and interactions between subjects. The hypotheses to be tested are the following: (I) ethics and aesthetics are related to the question of signification, construction and apprehension of meaning; (II) the articulation of ethics and aesthetics constitutes the basis of the questions of the semiotic methodology; (III) the issue of ethics and aesthetics is present in the thought of Greimas since his first works; (IV) the articulation proposed by semiotics between these concepts performs both a hypotactic and hyponymic approach. Thus, the importance of this work lies in the possibility of visualizing the interactions between these two terms through semiotic structures that define and articulate ethics and aesthetics, as well as the isomorphism between the content plan and the expression plan. O presente artigo procura explorar a problemática do uso do som diegético e não diegético no cinema documental, a partir dos pressupostos da teoria do audiovisual em diálogo com a teoria semiótica francesa de Greimas. Semiótica sincrética dos jingles: uma análise dos jingles nas mídias audiovisuais
No full textEsta pesquisa examina a trilha musical e os elementos sincréticos, responsáveis pelo sentido, dos jingles publicitários. Que papel esses elementos desempenham no que tange, principalmente, à função persuasiva e à atribuição de sentido da mensagem proposta? Esta é a questão central desta pesquisa. A posição de destaque e a função desses componentes nas peças publicitárias são indicadores da importância desse estudo, investigado com base em teorias semióticas e teorias musicais de melodia, arranjo, composição e harmonia. Unificando os elementos semióticos e musicais, busca-se, portanto, identificar os meios utilizados e os padrões gerados que sejam capazes de explicitar os ganhos persuasivos que a publicidade adquire nos jingles. As análises semióticas tem sua base na obra de Charles Sanders Peirce, pois suas classificações de signos possibilitam a leitura acurada das misturas entre o texto, a imagem e o som nos jingles. Também utilizamos a semiótica discursiva greimasiana e tensiva, pautada por Luiz Tatit, pois se trata de uma obra que traz contribuições importantes para a semiótica da canção. Teóricos da música também são acionados para desvendar, no jingle, suas estruturas musicais, como arranjo, melodia, campo harmônico, etc. O corpus da pesquisa é a campanha desenvolvida pela empresa PA Publicidade, com produção da Conspiração Filmes e composição da Panela Produtora, para o Grupo Pão de Açúcar, com participação da cantora Clarice Falcão, por se tratar de uma série de jingles intersemióticos veiculados tanto na televisão quanto na internet, e pela empresa possuir jingles voltados exclusivamente ao seu canal onlineThis research examines the soundtrack and the syncretic elements, responsible for the meaning of jingles. What role these elements play in relation mainly to the persuasive function and assignment meaning of the message proposal? This is the main question of this research. The prominent position and the function of these components in the advertising are indicators of the importance of this study, investigated based on semiotic theories and theories of musical melody, arrangement, composition and harmony. Unifying the semiotic and musical elements, we seek therefore to identify the means used and the patterns that are able to explain the persuasive gains that advertising acquires in jingles. The semiotic analysis has its basis in the work of Charles Sanders Peirce, because his classifications of signs enable accurate reading of mixtures between text, image and sound in jingles. We also use the greimasian discursive semiotics and tensive semiotics, marked by Luiz Tatit, because it is a work that brings important contributions to musical semiotics. Inteligência artificial e alteridade: Representações de imigrantes usando ferramentas de criação de imagens generativas
No full textWe cannot deny, for better or for worse, that the democratization and accessibility of artificial intelligence represent an epistemological, social and technical turning point in society. In this context, it is necessary to investigate how tools for creating generative images represent and narrate the identities of people from a migrant background. On the basis of a common list of commands (prompts), entered in different geographical areas and in different languages, the purpose of this article is to determine whether the different tools generate representations that corroborate the maintenance of certain paradigms, such as those associated with stereotypes, or whether, on the contrary, they propose a different way of seeing the world by breaking with certain “received ideas” about immigrants. For this purpose, we use three different image generation tools, DALL-E 2, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion. The article presents two main aspects: the first, the establishment of a methodological research framework in relation to artificial intelligence tools; the second, the semiotic analysis of the results. The analysis of the images generated takes into account symbolic, political and expressive aspects, drawing on theoretical approaches from identity theories, sociosemiotics and discursive semiotics.No podemos negar, para bien o para mal, que la democratización y accesibilidad de la inteligencia artificial representan un punto de inflexión epistemológico, social y técnico en la sociedad. En este contexto, se hace necesario investigar el modo en que las herramientas de creación de imágenes generativas representan y narran las identidades de las personas de origen inmigrante. A partir de una lista común de comandos (prompts), introducidos en diferentes áreas geográficas y en diferentes idiomas, el propósito de este artículo es determinar si las diferentes herramientas generan representaciones que corroboran el mantenimiento de ciertos paradigmas, como los asociados a los estereotipos, o si, por el contrario, proponen una forma diferente de ver el mundo rompiendo con ciertas “ideas recibidas” sobre los inmigrantes. Para ello, utilizamos tres herramientas diferentes de generación de imágenes, DALL-E 2 y Midjourney y Stable Diffusion. El artículo expone dos vertientes principales: la primera, el establecimiento de un esquema metodológico de investigación en relación con las herramientas de inteligencia artificial; la segunda, el análisis semiótico de los resultados. El análisis de las imágenes generadas tiene en cuenta aspectos simbólicos, políticos y enunciativos, basándose en planteamientos teóricos de las teorías de la identidad, la sociosemiótica y la semiótica discursiva.Não podemos negar, para o bem ou para o mal, que a democratização e a acessibilidade da inteligência artificial representam um divisor de águas epistemológico, social e técnico na sociedade. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

<p>Alexandre Provin Sbabo has a double degree PhD in Language Sciences from the Université de Limoges (France) and Communication and Semiotics from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (Brazil). His thesis aims to build the diachronic path on the articulations between ethics and aesthetics in the semiotics of A. J. Greimas. Actually, he’s Temporary Research Associate at Université Paris-Est Créteil and is an associate member of the CPS - Centro de Pesquisas Sociossemióticas (Brazil) and of the CEDITEC - Centre d’étude des discours, images, textes, écrits et communication (France). Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
