AN IN-VITRO COMPARISON OF THE RETENTION OF PREFABRICATED PARALLEL-SIDED VENTED TITANIUM POSTS CEMENTED WITH THREE DIFFERENT DUAL-POLYMERIZABLE RESIN CEMENTS
AbstractAN IN-VITRO COMPARISON OF THE RETENTION OF PREFABRICATED PARALLEL-SIDED VENTED TITANIUM POSTS CEMENTED WITH THREE DIFFERENT DUAL-POLYMERIZABLE RESIN CEMENTSBy Maha M. El-Sayed, B.D.S., D.M.D.A Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science at Virginia Commonwealth University.Virginia Commonwealth University, 2003Thesis Director: David R. Burns, D.M.D. Associate Professor and Program DirectorGraduate ProsthodonticsDepartment of ProsthodonticsPurpose: The purpose of this in-vitro study was to compare the retentive strength of an autopolymerizing resin cement to three dual-polymerizable resin cements when used to cement paraposts without light activation and to relate diametral tensile stress and hardness as a measure of the degree of polymerization to the retentive strength of the different dual-polymerizable resin cements. Material and methods: 60 human extracted premolar teeth were endodontically-treated and randomly divided into 4 test groups (n=15). Parapost XP posts (size 5) were cemented using Panavia 21(control), Panavia F, RelyX Unicem and Linkmax resin cements. The latter three cements were dual-polymerizable and were not light-activated, and the control cement was autopolymerizable. Also, 140 resin cement samples were fabricated for diametral tensile stress and Knoop hardness testing. Each test had 70 samples, 10 of each of the following groups: Panavia 21, Panavia F light-activated, Panavia F autopolymerized, RelyX Unicem light-activated, RelyX Unicem autopolymerized, Linkmax light-activated, Linkmax autopolymerized. Post retention, diametral tensile stress and surface hardness tests were performed 1 week after sample fabrication or post cementation. Results: ANOVA and Tukey-Kramer statistical analysis revealed significant differences among the test groups for the three tests. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, tested dual-polymerization resin cements had similar or superior parapost retention to the control autopolymerizing resin cement without photoactivation. Dual-polymerizable resin cements had improved diametral tensile stress and surface hardness when light-activated than when autopolymerized. No correlation was observed between surface hardness and diametral tensile stress or between the tested physical properties of the resin cements and their retentive qualitie
Phra Maha Katsapa ro phop Phra Si-an na Kakutthabatkhiri
The author illustrates the legend of Phra Maha Katsapa -- one of Lord Buddha's important disciples-- and his retreat in the Mount Kakutthabat. Phra Maha Katsapa was believed to wait in a cave on that mountain until the time Phra Si-an would reincarnate and achieve nirvana. The author also refers to recent attempt of a British Buddhist monk in finding the location of the mountain in India
al-Rawiyat de Maha Hasan: métamorphose et réincarnation comme dernière tentative pour préserver la vie
Al-Rawiyat (The Storytellers) is a metafictional novel written by Syrian author Maha Hasan in 2014. The text contains two intertwined levels: the first is the inner monologue of a woman who is writing a novel; the second is represented by the stories of the characters she creates and that become themselves storytellers. In this text Maha Hasan explores the art of storytelling through multiple stories and many female characters. Ḥasan’s storytellers often live in parallel and imaginary worlds, in a permanent state of metamorphosis and perpetual reincarnation. The stories they live and narrate represent their last attempt to preserve life in an inhuman time that changes at a spasmodic rhythm and generates simultaneous events with contradictory effects. This novel translates into fiction the rapid changes of the present period, which—as affirmed by Rosi Braidotti in her Metamorphoses—does not truncate the brutality of power relations, but at deeper view, intensifies them to their point of implosion
PERGOLAKAN IDEOLOGI DALAM NOVEL TERJEMAHAN YANG MAHA KECIL KARYA ARUNDHATI ROY: KAJIAN HEGEMONI GRAMSCI (Ideological Upheavel in Arundhati Roy’s Translated Novel Yang Maha Kecil: The Study of Gramsci’s Hegemony)
Dalam hal ini, pengarang melihat bahwa ideologi komunis maupun ideologi ultraortodoks (agama) yang mengajarkan kesetaraan manusia secara sosial maupun di mata Tuhan, ternyata sama sekali tidak mengubah sistem pembedaan manusia.(This research aims to disclose and describe the formation of ideology in translated novel Yang Maha Kecil written by Arundhati Roy, as well as to recognize its relationship with the author’s ideology using Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony. Gramsci’s hegemony theory is used in this research to observe the practice of ideological hegemony in Yang Maha Kecil through ideological negotiations practiced by the author as a hegemony apparatus. The method used is the qualitative one using the descriptive approach and extensive comprehension of meaning. This research produced findings in the form of identifying a number of ideologies, namely ideology (1) ultra-orthodox, (2) communism, (3) anglophilia, (4) racism, and (5) patriarchy. The negotiated ideology is demonstrated by communism and ultra-orthodox ideology. The conclusion of this research is that there is conflict in the author's perspective on communism and ultra-orthodox ideologies that are negotiated. In this case, the author sees that both communism and the ultra-orthodox (religion), which promote human equality both socially and religiously, apparently fail to change the system of human discrimination.
Receptor-targeted nanocarriers for tumor specific treatment and imaging
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The efficacy of chemotherapy in lung cancer is limited by the development of cancer cell resistance during the treatment, difficulties in the delivery of anticancer drugs specifically to lung tumors, and severe adverse side effects of high doses chemotherapy on healthy organs. The main objectives of the present research are: (1) to provide effective delivery of therapeutic and imaging agents to lungs, (2) to mitigate the above described resistance, (3) to enhance the efficacy of lung cancer chemotherapy and limit adverse side effects of the treatment. To achieve these goals, we developed, characterized, and evaluated in vitro and in vivo on orthotopic model of lung cancer using a novel multifunctional tumor-targeted Nanocarrier-based Drug Delivery System (NDDS) composed of (1) a carrier; (2) a synthetic analog of Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LHRH peptide) as a targeting moiety; (3) an anticancer drug or imaging agent; (4) suppressors of drug resistance. We tested and compared: linear polymer, dendrimers and liposomes as nanocarriers; antisense oligonucleotides or small interfering RNA targeted to MRP1 and BCL2 mRNA as suppressors of pump and nonpump cellular resistance respectively; near-infrared cyanine dye Cy5.5, rhodamine, or fluorescein isothiocyanate as imaging agents.
The proposed multivalent NDDS exhibited preferential accumulation in the lungs, increased the sensitivity and specificity of tumor imaging, enhanced cancer treatment, and limited adverse side effects of the treatment on healthy organs. Targeting of nanocarriers to tumor specific receptors minimizes the influence of the architecture, composition, size, and molecular mass of nanocarriers on the efficacy of imaging and cancer treatment.
Local intratracheal administration sustained higher concentration of NDDS and its payload in the lungs and substantially limited their accumulation in other organs. Moreover, intratracheal local delivery of NDDS led to the more efficient treatment of lung cancer when compared with the intravenous administration of NDDS or free drugs. Simultaneous suppression of pump and nonpump resistance dramatically enhanced the cytotoxicity of the anticancer drug leading to a substantial increase in apoptosis induction.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references
MIR-206 mediates YAP-induced cardiac hypertrophy and survival
RATIONALE:
In Drosophila, the Hippo signaling pathway negatively regulates organ size by suppressing cell proliferation and survival through the inhibition of Yorkie, a transcriptional cofactor. Yes-associated protein (YAP), the mammalian homolog of Yorkie, promotes cardiomyocyte growth and survival in postnatal hearts. However, the underlying mechanism responsible for the beneficial effect of YAP in cardiomyocytes remains unclear.
OBJECTIVES:
We investigated whether miR-206, a microRNA known to promote hypertrophy in skeletal muscle, mediates the effect of YAP on promotion of survival and hypertrophy in cardiomyocytes.
METHODS AND RESULTS:
Microarray analysis indicated that YAP increased miR-206 expression in cardiomyocytes. Increased miR-206 expression induced cardiac hypertrophy and inhibited cell death in cultured cardiomyocytes, similar to that of YAP. Downregulation of endogenous miR-206 in cardiomyocytes attenuated YAP-induced cardiac hypertrophy and survival, suggesting that miR-206 plays a critical role in mediating YAP function. Cardiac-specific overexpression of miR-206 in mice induced hypertrophy and protected the heart from ischemia/reperfusion injury, whereas suppression of miR-206 exacerbated ischemia/reperfusion injury and prevented pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy. miR-206 negatively regulates Forkhead box protein P1 expression in cardiomyocytes and overexpression of Forkhead box protein P1 attenuated miR-206-induced cardiac hypertrophy and survival, suggesting that Forkhead box protein P1 is a functional target of miR-206.
CONCLUSIONS:
YAP increases the abundance of miR-206, which in turn plays an essential role in mediating hypertrophy and survival by silencing Forkhead box protein P1 in cardiomyocytes
Gereja Hati Yesus Yang maha Kudus - Katedral (sejarah Gereja Katolik di Sulawesi Selatan dan Tenggara)
The Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus Church is the oldest Catholic church in Makassar. Built in 1898, the church later became the cathedral church in Makassar. In this paper, the author makes the church as the object of research using the method of archaeological descriptions. This study aims to find out how the application of building styles in gothic churches and its changes to date. Through the embodiment of the visual elements of the oldest Catholic church in Makassar, the gothic style and other artistic styles of the buildings the church shows an interesting and unique blend of architecture. The shape of windows, doors, and curved roofs is part of the Gothic style that was the influence of the Dutch colonial period. Although the style and forms of this church have a resemblance of form with the later Christian church, the Christian church of Immanuel Makassar, the Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus Church has become part of the Roman Catholic church structure which has many historical values, both in Makassar's local history, as well as Indonesian national history.
