The regulation of the Daunbe in the 1870s eliminated most of the originally sprawling Danube landscape and enabled a large-scale expansion of the city beyond the river. Since then, numerous disconnected fragments of settlements have developed in the districts of Floridsdorf and Donaustadt, which differ significantly from the dense and concentric city on the other side of the river. The aim of this paper is to generate a well-ordered structure for Vienna on the left bank of the Danube, which is formed from the existing buildings and infrastructure. To achieve this, the idea of the former wild river landscape is taken up and translated into an urban landscape consisting of rivers of important transport infrastructure and green spaces as well as urban islands. To begin with, an overview of the historical development of the area to the left of the Danube is given and current planning is analysed. Afterwards, a Potato Plan is drawn up: On the one hand, this is the result of a socio-spatial analysis, which represents districts and centralities in an abstract way. On the other hand, it is used as a design method to identify the islands and rivers. Based on this, the rivers are completed to a seamless network of green spaces in which the islands are embedded. A second network of traffic corridors, known as canals, will be created to link the centres of the islands to a polycentric city. The merge of the two networks completes the picture of the new urban landscape that is intended to give Vienna northeast of the Danube a stronger structure and independent identity

The starting point for this diploma thesis is the analytical examination of the Danube and the tension between the use of the waterway as a climate-friendly mode of mobility on the one hand, and the protection and preservation of the river space and landscape on the other. The focus of the study is on the Vienna ports in Albern, Lobau, and Freudenau. As important hubs of both international and regional cycles andflows of goods, these infrastructures play a key role in connecting urban space with the region and the hinterland. Based on four thematic focal points (1. Energy Supply & Infrastructure, 2. City Logistics & Production, 3. Regionality & Circular Economy, 4. Natural Space & Port Experience), the thesis investigates the questions of howthe Vienna ports can contribute to achieving climate goals, how the waterway can be integrated into a functioning city logistics system, which potential the inland ports exhibit as both productive and recreational spaces, and how a symbiosis between the economic use of the waterway and the protection of nature could be achieved. The design based on this framework contextualizes and synthesizes various considerations for spatial development through an overarching, integrative guidingprinciple for the ‚Regio-City Port Vienna‘. By using the tool of future visions, possible development scenarios for the ports are demonstrated and visualized on various scale levels. This thesis advocates for understanding (inland) ports as transformative spaces, which should receive increased attention in urban discourse as well as in municipal, regional, and national planning strategies. It emphasizes the need to further explore the immense potential of ports for a climate-neutral, circular urban and regional development that fully integrates various systems of urban metabolism. Finally, the thesis also underscores the urgency of developing concrete measures for the transformation of these areas as soon as possible

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

The productive industry can be seen as an essen-tial servicing part of a city that is intimately connected to it. Besides the important utility services and disposal facilities it contains a great amount of jobs in the manufacturing sector. In the city of Linz it is also characterized by the proximity to the urban core and the river of the Danube. Recent developments of bringing back the industry into the city and connecting production with urban neighbourhoods can create new possibilities to face the challanges of city development. The tasks of urban development in Linz are multi-layered. In addition to a sufficient supply of affordable housing, issues of climate adaption, efficient land use and mobility are as important as the assurance of enough space for manufacturing. The following master‘s thesis ‚Produktive Stadt Linz eine schienenorientierte Strukturentwicklung‘ [Pro-ductive City of Linz - a rail-oriented development of urban structure] focuses on industrial intensification an co-location of mixed-use areas. The goal is to investigate the marriage between the urban core and the industrial area in the Eastern part of the city. Expanding the listed issues of city development above, the reurbanization of the industrial area should point out new perspectives of urban habitats between living, working, manufacturing and recovering. After a comprehensive resaerch on the historical development and the current paradigms of city planning in Linz, I started the attemt to demonstrate a potential approach for the current and future challenges in urban development by an urban design project on the assumption of the productive city. This requires a consideration over all headed topics on different scales
