Solipsism: Understanding Japanese Culture Through the Novel "Namaku Hiroko" by N.H. DINI (A Critical Students Discussion Perspective)
The aim of this research is to reveal the concept of solipsism in understanding Japanese culture in the novel Namaku Hiroko by N.H. Dini. This research raises three main problems, namely; Japanese culture, the author\u27s perspective, and the manifestation of solipsism in literary works. The aim of this research was formulated to find out; 1) the author\u27s perspective on solipsism in Japanese culture, and 2) the form of solipsism itself in literary works. Of course the literary work referred to here is the novel Namaku Hiroko by N.H. Dini. The theory of solipsism is used to understand the experience of the novel writer Namaku Hiroko in understanding culture, including the concepts and perspectives of Japanese culture as depicted in the work of N.H. Dini. Qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach are used in this research to describe everything related to Japanese culture based on a critical student discussion. This study found that the principle of solipsism exists in Japanese culture as outlined by NH. Dini in Namaku Hiroko
Well-known trade mark protection: confusion in EU and Japan
In this thesis concerning the protection of well-known trade marks against confusion in the European Community Trade Mark (CTM) and Japanese trademark systems, the author critically considers the difficulties in comprehensively defining ‘well-known trade mark’ in the relevant international trade mark instruments. After critical analysis of various definitions of both ‘trade mark’ and ‘well-known trade mark’, she undertakes a comparison of the definitions of the parallel concepts of ‘trade mark of repute’ and ‘syuchi-syohyo’, and also undertakes an assessment as to the extent to which these trade marks are protected against confusion and kondo in the CTM and Japanese systems, respectively. It is concluded that the protection of well- known trade marks against confusion in the CTM and Japan cannot be said to be completely clear, and the author identifies some areas for legal refor
Exploration on Quantum Chemical Potential Energy Surfaces
Written chemical formulas, such as C2H6O, can tell us the constituent atoms a molecule contains but they cannot differentiate between the possible geometrical arrangements (isomers) of these models. Yet the chemical properties of different isomers can vary hugely. Therefore, to understand the world of chemistry we need to ask what kind of isomers can be produced from a given atomic composition, how are isomers converted into each other, how do they decompose into smaller pieces, and how can they be made from smaller pieces? The answers to these questions will help us to discover new chemistry and new molecules. A potential energy surface (PES) describes a system, such as a molecule, based on geometrical parameters. The mathematical properties of the PES can be used to calculate probable isomer structures as well as how they are formed and how they might behave.
Exploration on Quantum Chemical Potential Energy Surfaces focuses on the PES search based on quantum chemical calculations. It describes how to explore the chemical world on PES, discusses fundamental methods and specific techniques developed for efficient exploration on PES, and demonstrates several examples of the PES search for chemical structures and reaction routes
The Economic Costs of Court Decisions Concerning Dismissals in Japan: Identification by Judge Transfers
The goal of this paper is to detect the degree to which court decisions control the stringency of employment protection and to investigate how such judicial discretion affects labor market performance. However, identification difficulty arises because court decisions are volatile against economic and social conditions. This paper overcomes the endogeneity problem by exploiting the triennial judge transfer system in Japan, or the exogenous allocation of judges to prefectures. A key finding is that the prefecture employment rate is reduced by approximately 1.4% if a prefecture receives more pro-worker judgments than pro-employer ones in a given year.
The Economic Costs of Court Decisions Concerning Dismissals in Japan: Identification by Judge Transfers
The goal of this paper is to detect the degree to which court decisions control the stringency of employment protection and investigate how such judicial discretion affects labor market performance. However, Identification difficulty arises because court decisions are volatile against economic and social conditions. This paper overcomes the endogeneity problem by exploiting the triennial judge transfer system in Japan, or the exogenous allocation of judges to prefectures. Specifically, I estimated the judge-specific effects from litigation records and instrumented them to the judgment indicator in the original model. A key finding in this paper is that prefecture employment rate is reduced by approximately 1.5% if a prefecture receives more pro-worker judgments than pro-employer ones in a given year. Interestingly, the result is robust to the instrumental variable estimates only if the sample includes observations of the Tokyo and Osaka Prefectures. Thus, judges assigned to these prefectures have played leading roles in exogenously establishing the doctrine of abusive adjustment dismissals, whereas the rest of the variation in judgments is reversely explained by local labor market performance.Employment Protection, Wrongful-Discharge Law, Weak Instrumental Variables
Numerical Representation of Three-dimensional Stereochemical Environments Using FRAU-descriptors
Numerical representation of stereochemical environments using FRAU (Field-characterization for Reaction Analysis and Understanding)-descriptors has been investigated. Correlations were analyzed between the FRAU-descriptors and stereochemical environments around an oxygen atom of cyclohexanol with chair form and oxygen atoms of all of the diastereo isomers of 1,2- cyclohexanediol, 1,3-cyclohexanediol, 1,4-cyclohexanediol, and 1,2,3,4,5-cyclohexanepentol with all possible chair form conformations. Good correlations were found between the FRAUdescriptors and 3D stereochemical environments
Effects of Participatory and Physical Life Goals in a Preventive Care Program for Frail Community-Dwelling Older People: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Abstract
Date Presented 3/31/2017
Life goals related to activities and participation had a more positive effect on frail older people’s health and quality of life than did life goals related to physical function and structure. The setting of meaningful goals may help to improve the effectiveness of preventive care programs.
