No full textThese two volumes constitute the second part (nun-taw) of the Syriac-Arabic dictionary of the 10th cent. physician Isho bar Ali (the first half of the dictionary had been published in 1874 by G. Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

No full textThe central theme of this volume is the work of Sabahattin Ali, the Turkish author and translator from German into Turkish who achieved posthumous success with his novel Kürk Mantolu Madonna (The Madonna in the Fur Coat). Our contributors analyze this novel, which takes place largely in Germany, and several other texts by Ali in the context of world literature, (cultural) translation, and intertextuality. Their articles go far beyond the intercultural love affair that has typically dominated the discussion of Madonna. Other articles consider Zafer Şenocak’s essay collection Deutschsein and transcultural learning through picture books. An interview with Selim Özdoğan rounds out the issue.Im Mittelpunkt dieses Bandes steht das Werk des türkischen Autors und Übersetzers aus dem Deutschen Sabahattin Ali, der mit seinem Roman Kürk Mantolu Madonna (Die Madonna im Pelzmantel) zu posthumem Ruhm gelangte. Der Roman, der zum Großteil in Deutschland spielt, und andere seiner Werke werden unter Aspekten der Weltliteratur, (kultureller) Übersetzung und Intertextualität diskutiert. Police management of poverty: vulnerability of people in street situation to the rigors of the public order. A study of the case of Samir Ali Ahmed Sati.
No full textThis paper is based on critical criminology, critical discourse studies and decolonial studies. I discuss the meeting of Samir Sati with police and law in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Samir Sati was in homelessness and was assaulted during a Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) approach in May 2017. The GCM action, recorded on video and posted on social networks, resulted in the hospitalization of Samir Sati with a fractured arm, but he was still framed in a police investigation with four counts: receiving, disobedience, resistance and contempt. The case of Samir Sati shows the police and judicial management of homeless people in Brazil, especially in the city of São Paulo.Este trabajo toma por base la criminología crítica, los estudios críticos del discurso y el proyecto decolonial, para discutir el encuentro de Samir Sati con la policía y la ley en la ciudad de San Pablo, Brasil. Samir Sati estaba en situación de calle y fue agredido durante un abordaje de la Guardia Civil Metropolitana (GCM) en mayo de 2017. La acción de la GCM, registrada en video publicado en redes sociales, resultó en la hospitalización de Samir Sati, con una fractura en el brazo, pero el hombre aún fue encuadrado en una encuesta policial con cuatro cargos: receptación, desobediencia, resistencia y desacato. El caso de Samir Sati da muestra de la gestión policial y judicial de la situación de calle en Brasil, especialmente en la ciudad de San Pablo
