Democratization of local governments in Türkiye and the impact of women's representation on this
No full textBu çalışma, Türkiye'de yerel yönetimlerin demokratikleşme süreci ile kadın temsili arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Yerel yönetimler, demokrasinin en temel unsurlarından biri olarak, halkın karar alma süreçlerine katılımını teşvik etmekte ve yerinden yönetimi güçlendirmektedir. Bununla birlikte, demokratikleşme süreci, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği ve kadın temsili ile doğrudan ilişkilidir. Kadınların yerel yönetimlerde daha fazla temsil edilmesi, sadece toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği açısından değil, aynı zamanda daha şeffaf, hesap verebilir ve katılımcı bir yönetim anlayışının inşası için de büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu tezde, Türkiye'deki yerel yönetimlerin tarihsel gelişimi ve kadın temsili üzerine yapılan araştırmalar ele alınmış, kadınların yerel yönetimlerdeki temsili ile demokratikleşme arasındaki bağlantı incelenmiştir. Türkiye'deki kadın temsili oranları, yerel seçimlerdeki kadın aday sayıları, kadın kotası uygulamaları gibi konular analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca, kadınların yerel yönetimlerdeki temsilini engelleyen toplumsal ve yapısal engeller ile yasal düzenlemeler de tartışılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları, kadın temsili oranlarının artırılmasının, demokratikleşme süreçlerini güçlendirdiğini, yerel yönetimlerin şeffaflık, hesap verebilirlik ve katılım açısından daha olumlu bir noktaya ulaşmasına yardımcı olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu bağlamda, yerel yönetimlerde kadınların daha fazla yer almasının, sadece toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği değil, genel anlamda demokratikleşme sürecinin de güçlenmesine katkı sağlayacağı sonucuna varılmıştır. Çalışma, bu hedefe ulaşabilmek için yerel yönetimlerde kadın temsili oranlarını artırmaya yönelik önerilerde bulunmaktadır. Yöntem olarak bu çalışmada Türkiye'de yerel yönetimlerin demokratikleşme süreci ile kadın temsilinin bu sürece katkısını nitel araştırma yöntemiyle incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada, yerel yönetimlerde aktif görev yapmış ya da yapmakta olan kadınların deneyimlerine ve görüşlerine başvurulmuştur. Veriler, açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan bir görüşme formu aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın saha çalışması kısmı, 2024 yılı Mayıs ve Haziran aylarında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşmeler çevrim içi ortamda yazılı olarak yapılmış, her bir görüşme ortalama 30–40 dakika sürmüştür. Katılımcılar amaçlı örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiş olup, çeşitliliği sağlamak amacıyla farklı görevlerde bulunan sekiz kadın yerel yöneticiyle görüşülmüştür.This study aims to examine the relationship between the democratization process of local governments and female representation in Turkey. Local governments, as one of the fundamental elements of democracy, promote public participation in decision-making processes and strengthen local governance. However, the democratization process is directly related to gender equality and female representation. Increasing the representation of women in local governments is crucial not only for gender equality but also for establishing a more transparent, accountable, and participatory governance model. In this thesis, the historical development of local governments in Turkey and research on female representation are explored, and the connection between women's representation in local governments and democratization is examined. The study analyzes issues such as the rate of female representation in Turkey, the number of female candidates in local elections, and the implementation of gender quotas. Additionally, the societal and structural barriers to women's representation in local governments and the legal frameworks surrounding them are discussed. The findings of the research show that increasing female representation strengthens democratization processes and helps local governments reach a more positive state in terms of transparency, accountability, and participation. In this context, the increased involvement of women in local governments contributes not only to gender equality but also to the overall strengthening of the democratization process. The study offers recommendations for increasing female representation in local governments to achieve these goals. The aim of this study is to examine the democratization process of local governments in Turkey and the contribution of women's representation to this process using a qualitative research method. The research draws on the experiences and perspectives of women who have served or are currently serving in active roles within local governments. Data were collected through an interview form consisting of open-ended questions. The fieldwork for the study was conducted in May and June of 2024. Interviews were carried out in written form through online platforms, with each interview lasting approximately 30–40 minutes. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling method, and in order to ensure diversity, interviews were conducted with eight women local administrators holding different positions
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
