    Bhagavad Gitā & the Art of Leadership: Old Text, New Context!

    Author and scholar Satinder Dhiman focuses upon the pervasive and necessary role of spirituality in values-based leadership. He notes that while the leadership literature is plentiful, the Bhagavad Gītā represents one of the very few writings which explores the core psychological, philosophical, ethical, and spiritual underpinnings of leadership roles. In this article, the author applies hermeneutics to the Gītā to highlight important leadership lessons and to apply such lessons to contemporary organizational leadership. Through selfless work, a true leader eschews an egoistic pursuit of self-aggrandizement to achieve the freedom of serving others. Thus, Dhiman concludes, the Gītā teaches its readers how “to discover the sacred in life while remaining fully engaged in the secular activities.

    Encryption is the art of preserving confidentiality of digital information. It is considered to be one of the most ideal solutions for providing data confidentiality and safety of computer hard disk. Many disk encryption software are commercially available with a variety of features. But how much effective security is provided by those software is the ultimate question. Encryption algorithms used by those software are vulnerable to known cryptanalysis. Design and implementation weaknesses critically leave backdoors inside those software themselves. Easy and smart methods are used to defeat the software’s security either by manipulating external hardware or by exploiting user unawareness. This thesis evaluates the potential vulnerabilities of commercial hard disk encryption software that are claimed to provide absolute security of hard disk content

    Leland H. Hartwell was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (2001) at his 62 years age and at 41 years of research publishing career. The first contribution of the author was in 1961 at the age of 22. The number of his contributions in a year peaked in 1997 when it touched 8. He had 108 publications during 1961 – 2001 in domains: Molecular Biology of Cell Cycle Regulation (43), Genetics of Cell Division (48), Genomic Re-arrangement and DNA Repair (9), Molecular Genetics of Yeast Cell Fission (5), and Drug Target Interaction (3) which were analysed for authorship pattern with his 101 collaborators. Most active researchers having number of publications with Leland H. Hartwell were : Weinert, T. A. (10), Garvik, B. M. (8), McLaughlin, C. S. (8), Jenness, D. D. (5). His productivity coefficient was 0.76 which clearly indicates that his productivity increased after 50 percentile age. Highest collaboration coefficient (1) for Leland H. Hartwell was found during 1963-1965, 1968-1969, 1977, 1981-1983, 1985-1990, 1996 and 1998-2001. Journals have been the most preferred channel of communication where, as many as 96 papers out of 108 have been published. The core journals publishing his papers were: Cell (14), Genetics (12), Mol.     Using Machine Learning to Quantify the Robustness of Network Controllability

    This paper presents machine learning based approximations for the minimum number of driver nodes needed for structural controllability of networks under link-based random and targeted attacks. We compare our approximations with existing analytical approximations and show that our machine learning based approximations significantly outperform the existing closed-form analytical approximations in case of both synthetic and real-world networks.     Effect of Gamma Radiation on Survival and Fertility of Male Anopheles stephensi Liston, Irradiated as Pharate Adults

    Effect of radiations on the survival and fertility of male Anopheles stephensi Liston was evaluated in the laboratory with 70 and 100 Gy radiation dose. Irradiation of pharate adults with 100 Gy dose resulted in reduced emergence and longevity as compared to control (0 Gy) and 70 Gy dose. Fecundity and fertility of female An. stephensi mated with male irradiated as pharate adults was determined upto four blood meals. Significant decline was observed in fecundity after each blood meal at 100 Gy as compared to 0 Gy and 70 Gy irradiation. Similarly, the fertility was also decreased after each blood meal at 100 Gy irradiation.     Nobel Laureate Anthony J Leggett: A scientometric portrait

    This paper attempts to analyse the publication productivity of Anthony J. Leggett, the 2003 Nobel Prize winner in physics. His contributions peaked in 1987, 1994, and 1998 with 10 papers each. He had 194 publications during 1964 - 2004 in domains like Superfluid 3He (65), Foundations of Quantum Mechanics (36), Dissipative Quantum Systems (24), Atomic Alkali Gases (18), and Miscellaneous (51)which were analysed for authorship pattern with his 70 collaborators. Most active collaborators with Anthony J Leggett were: A. Garg with six papers and A. O. MCaldeira, D. M. Ginsberg, D. J. Vanharlingen , F. Sols, S.Takagi and D. A. Wollman with five papers each. His productivity coefficient was 0.60 which clearly indicates that his productivity increased after 50 percentile age. The highest degree of collaboration (1) for Anthony J. Leggett was found during 1964, 1971 and 1983. Journals have been the most preferred channel of communication, where as many as 139 papers out of 194 have been published.     Measuring the robustness of network controllability

    Networks are all around us, telecommunication networks, road transportation networks, and the Internet are a few examples of networks that we encounter every day. The entities in a network are represented by nodes and the interconnections between them are represented by links. For example, in a telecommunication network, a node could be an end point for data transmission, a redistribution point or in physical terms, an entity that is capable of receiving, transmitting or redistributing information and a link could be a wired or a wireless connection between the nodes. It is of prime importance that the networks perform their functions properly. To ensure the effective operation of such networks, we need to control them by applying external inputs on some nodes which are known as driver nodes. We say that a network is controllable if it can be driven from any arbitrary state to any desired state in finite time under the control of driver nodes which are attached to the external inputs. Networks are often confronted with perturbations in the form of targeted and random attacks to disrupt their operation. Such perturbations make these networks less controllable. Thus, more driver nodes are needed to gain the full controllability of these networks. As a result, the robustness of network controllability decreases. In this study, the minimum number of driver nodes which gain full controllability after failures or attacks is chosen as the robustness metric.Existing closed-form analytical approximations estimate the normalized minimum number of driver nodes as a function of the fraction of removed links in both targeted and random attacks. However, the approximations sometimes do not fit with the simulations and the errors between the approximations and simulations are large. The main objectives of this study are to improve the analytical approximations using machine learning methods for both targeted and random attacks and additionally, derive a suitable analytical approximation for the out-in degree-based attack. Specifically, we use Linear Regression, Random Forest, and Artificial Neural Networks. To evaluate the performance of our machine learning models, we compare them with analytical approximations and simulations. In addition to this, we also study the attack based variability in estimating the minimum number of driver nodes using robustness envelopes.Based on the performance evaluations, we found that the approximations using machine learning models significantly outperform the existing closed-form analytical approximations for the minimum number of driver nodes, both in real-world and synthetic networks.     Natural furin inhibitor(s) as potent therapeutic molecule to mitigate SARS-CoV-2 infection

    The COVID 2019 has had been going pandemic as per WHO situation reports. The major differentiating point in this virus is the presence of a unique furin cleavage site. Our insilico study points out to the effectiveness of a potent plant origin furin inhibitor. We exploited the aspect of the cleavage machinery of furin subunits which is critical and indispensible to the entry of SARS-CoV-2 in human cells and subsequent massive contagion. In-silico analysis was done to observe the interactions of proposed analogs of protease inhibitor of plant origin against furin protein as well as the furin spike glycoprotein (SGP) binding machinery. This was done by docking protocols using Hex 6.0 software followed by molecular Dynamic simulation (MDS) analysis in 100 ns scale using Amber94. Further, the images were analysed with PyMol software. The analogs I, II and III included in our study showed strong interactivity against furin individually, as well as the furin-Spike Glycoprotein 1 binding machinery. The findings were confirmed using molecular dynamic simulation analysis which indicated good structural stability and ability to neutralise furin and furin-spike glycoprotein 1. Analog II was found to be the best interactive molecule against furin, showing the least deviation (1.484 ± 0.0064). Also, it was the most effective against furin + Spike glycoprotein I machinery [1.575 ± 0.01]. We report the first of its kind of natural furin inhibitor(s) which would disrupt the furin machinery of SARS-CoV-2 and help in controlling the COVID-19 contagion. Communicated by Ramaswamy H.     Internal Auditing of Organizational Spiritual Identity (OSI)

    The aim of this chapter is to argue that it is possible to identify and audit spiritual (and nonspiritual) signifiers in organizations, and that this process has the potential to reveal an organizational spiritual identity (OSI). A rationale for undertaking the process is developed by highlighting scholarly literature and empirical findings suggesting benefits in applying spiritual principles to workplace practices, thatmay, in turn, help to offset the potential for costly and painful consequences, such as employee conflict, dismissal, or resignations (Crossman 2016). The implications of spiritual "fit," in terms of recruitment and retention, as well as creating spiritually safe organizations, are also discussed. The author acknowledges that the relationship between organizational identity and spirituality, as a line of enquiry, is still in its infancy and calls for further empirical work, perhaps in the form of case studies, exploring the process and outcomes of conducting audits of OSI in organizations.
