The current scenario of open access journal initiatives in India
Get PDFPurpose: The overall aim of the research was to gather the data related to open access journal initiatives in India with respect to its type, funding agency/host organisation, full text availability, article charges etc.
Methodology: Various sources of information were consulted such as literature, search engines, directories etc.
Finidings: Results shows that all 178 open access journals were peer reviewed, indexed and abstracted in various indexing and abstracting services, listed with DOAR and O-Jgate.
Limitations: Open access journals which were available on Internet were included but not those which were available on Intranet.
Originality: In the earlier literature it was mentioned only about 100 to 110 open access journals as well as nothing was mentioned about author paid journals. But the present study discovered existence of 178 open access journals with 3 author paid journal
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Free but authentic mobile dictionaries: pros and cons

Purpose
The aim of this paper is to find out best free mobile general dictionaries to recommend library users.
Design/methodology/approach
Google Play Store was reviewed to find out free but authentic dictionaries.
Findings
Even though there are more than 100+ free dictionaries available, out of it, two dictionaries, that is, Oxford Dictionary of English & Dictionary by Merriam-Webster, were found to be the best with prominent features such as search and learning tools.
Originality/value
The paper throws light on best free mobile dictionaries with their features which are rarely mentioned in literature.

The paper aims to review the EssentialPIM app, a personal information manager that helps in organization and maintenance of personal information collections in which information items, such as print documents, electronic documents, email messages, Web references, handwritten notes, etc., are stored for later use and repeated re-use.
Design/methodology/approach
Google Play Store was reviewed to find out personal information manager which is useful for everyone.
Findings
EssentialPIM is an Android version of highly popular on Windows platform personal information manager. It allows one to manage calendars, tasks, notes, contacts and passwords. It restores the backup data with ease onto existing or any other Android device.
Originality/value
The paper discusses the best information manager with their features and one that is useful to librarians, students and research scholars, business owners, etc.

Non library oriented MOOCs useful for LIS professionals and students

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to compile a list of non-library and information science (LIS) massive open online courses (MOOCs) useful for LIS professionals and students.
Design/methodology/approach
Major MOOC platforms were scanned to check which are useful MOOCs that LIS professionals can take up.
Findings
Around 12 different courses were identified by the researcher in various fields such as management, technology, marketing and research.
Research limitations/implications
Only three MOOC platforms were consulted.
Originality/value
The paper gives an overview of MOOCs other than the LIS field and how they can enrich the LIS professionals' knowledge and skills.
