    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Equivariant spectral triples on the quantum SU(2) group

    The original publication can be found at www.springerlink.comWe characterize all equivariant odd spectral triples for the quantum SU(2) group acting on its L 2-space and having a nontrivial Chern character. It is shown that the dimension of an equivariant spectral triple is at least three, and given any element of the K-homology group of SUq(2), there is an equivariant odd spectral triple of dimension 3 inducing that element. The method employed to get equivariant spectral triples in the quantum case is then used for classical SU(2), and we prove that for p &lt; 4, there does not exist any equivariant spectral triple with nontrivial K-homology class and dimension p acting on the L 2-space.Partha Sarathi Chakraborty and Arupkumar Pa

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Urea-Functionalized Self-Assembled Molecular Prism for Heterogeneous Catalysis in Water

    Reaction of a ditopic urea “strut” (L1) with cis-(tmen)Pd(NO3)2 yielded a [3+3] self-assembled molecular triangle (T) [L1 = 1,4-di(4-pyridylureido)benzene; tmen = N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine]. Replacing cis-(tmen)Pd(NO3)2 in the above reaction with an equimolar mixture of Pd(NO3)2 and a clip-type donor (L2) yielded a template-free multicomponent 3D trigonal prism (P) decorated with multiple urea moieties [L2 = 3,3′-(1H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5-diyl)dipyridine]. This prism (P) was characterized by NMR spectroscopy, and the structure was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The P was employed as an effective hydrogen-bond-donor catalyst for Michael reactions of a series of water-insoluble nitro-olefins in an aqueous medium. The P showed better catalytic activity compared to the urea-based ligand L1 and the triangle T. Moreover, the confined nanospace of P in addition to large product outlet windows makes this 3D architecture a perfect molecular vessel to catalyze Diels–Alder reactions of 9-hydroxymethylanthracene with N-substituted maleimide in the aqueous medium. The present results demonstrate new observations on catalytic aqueous Diels–Alder and Michael reactions in heterogeneous fashion employing a discrete 3D architecture of Pd(II). The prism was recycled by simple filtration and reused several times without significant loss of activity

    Solvent Induced Conversion of a Self-Assembled Gyrobifastigium to a Barrel and Encapsulation of Zinc-Phthalocyanine within the Barrel for Enhanced Photodynamic Therapy

    A rare gyrobifastigium architecture (GB) was constructed by self-assembly of a tetradentate donor (L) with Pd-II acceptor in DMSO. The GB was converted to its isomeric tetragonal barrel (MB) upon treatment with water. The hydrophobic cavity of MB has been explored for the encapsulation of zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc), which is an excellent photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, the poor water-solubility and aggregation tendency are the main reasons for the suboptimal PDT performance of free ZnPc in the aqueous medium. Effective solubilization of ZnPc in an aqueous medium was achieved by encapsulating it in the cavity of MB. The inclusion complex (ZnPc subset of MB) showed enhanced singlet oxygen generation in water. Higher cellular uptake and anticancer activity of the ZnPc subset of MB compared to free ZnPc on HeLa cells indicate that encapsulation of ZnPc in an aqueous host is a potential strategy for enhancement of its PDT activity in water
