No full textEn este artículo nos detenemos en una novela particular del escritor argentino Pablo De Santis: Lucas Lenz y el Museo del Universo (1992). Si bien se trata de una novela destinada a un público juvenil, en ella encontramos elementos propios del género negro. La caracterización del protagonista y episodios de violencia nos permiten vincular la novela a temas ligados a un presunto público adulto. De este modo, vemos que la usual clasificación de las novelas de De Santis entre textos de adolescentes y de adultos pierde consistencia. En todo caso, concluimos que una lectura global de la obra del autor debería prescindir de esta división reduccionista.In this article we focus on a particular novel by Argentinian writer Pablo De Santis: Lucas Lenz y el Museo del Universo (1992). While this is a novel aimed at a young audience, in this text we find elements of the hard-boiled genre. The characterization of the protagonist and violent episodes allow us to link the novel with what is supposed to be an adult audience. Thus, we see that the usual classification of De Santis’s novels, between texts for teenagers and texts for adults, lose consistency. In any case, we conclude that an overall reading of the author’s work should ignore this reductionist division.Neste artigo detémonos nunha novela particular do escritor arxentino Pablo De Santis: Lucas Lenz y el Museo del Universo (1992). Aínda que se trata dunha novela destinada a un público xuvenil, nela atopamos elementos propios do xénero negro. A caracterización do protagonista e episodios de violencia permítennos vincular a novela a temas ligados a un presunto público adulto. Deste xeito, vemos que a usual clasificación das novelas de De Santis entre textos de adolescentes e de adultos perde consistencia. En todo caso, concluímos que unha lectura global da obra do autor debería prescindir desta división reduccionista

Data and performance of an active-set truncated Newton method with non-monotone line search for bound-constrained optimization
No full textIn this data article, we report data and experiments related to the research article entitled “A Two-Stage Active-Set Algorithm for Bound-Constrained Optimization”, by Cristofari et al. (2017). The method proposed in Cristofari et al. (2017), tackles optimization problems with bound constraints by properly combining an active-set estimate with a truncated Newton strategy. Here, we report the detailed numerical experience performed over a commonly used test set, namely CUTEst (Gould et al., 2015). First, the algorithm ASA-BCP proposed in Cristofari et al. (2017) is compared with the related method NMBC (De Santis et al., 2012). Then, a comparison with the renowned methods ALGENCAN (Birgin and Martínez et al., 2002) and LANCELOT B (Gould et al., 2003) is reported

Dichos artículos aparecieron en forma seriada en el diario El Día de nuestra ciudad, en la década del 70. Para esta edición, la Dra. Marta S. Loiácono ha seleccionado este interesante artículo, en el cual el Dr. De Santis se refiere, con lenguaje simple y ameno, poblado de datos curiosos y anecdóticos, a diversos aspectos relacionados con estos insectos xilófagos, que tan molestos resultan en los lugares por los daños que ocasionan a los muebles.Fundación Museo La Plat

No full textAIM: The aim of this retrospective study was to demonstrate the difference in patient outcomes after treatment for bleeding endocranial aneurysms when evaluated with methods based on different assessment criteria. METHODS: The outcome of 237 patients, 141 of which were operated on for anterior communicating artery aneurysm and 96 embolized, was assessed by a new method developed by De Santis. The patients operated on were assessed by the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) and Rank Disability Scale (RDS) and the results of the latter were compared with the new method, the De Santis-CESE (Clinical Emotional Social Evaluation) method, which consists of a clinical evaluation and a numeric scoring system based on seven standard points. Comparison between the three methods showed significantly different outcomes. Patients who underwent surgical operation showed changes in character and behaviour, whereas the others showed cognitive, emotional and sexual habit changes.CONCLUSION: Compared with the GOS and RDS instruments, the CESE method showed significant differences in patient outcome assessment, particularly regarding best outcomes. These differences may be due to the greater sensitivity of the CESE method over the other two scales. Furthermore, surgical patients seemed to achieve a better outcome than endovascular patients. The authors intend to conduct a prospective study to test the results obtained in this retrospective study
