Targeting tumor metastases: drug delivery mechanisms and technologies
Primary sites of tumor are the focal triggers of cancers, yet it is the subsequent metastasis events that cause the majority of the morbidity and mortality. Metastatic tumor cells exhibit a phenotype that differs from that of the parent cells, as they represent a resistant, invasive subpopulation of the original tumor, may have acquired additional genetic or epigenetic alterations under exposure to prior chemotherapeutic or radiotherapeutic treatments, and reside in a microenvironment differing from that of its origin. This combination of resistant phenotype and distal location make tracking and treating metastases particularly challenging. In this review, we highlight some of the unique biological traits of metastasis, which in turn, inspire emerging strategies for targeted imaging of metastasized tumors and metastasis-directed delivery of therapeutics.Peer reviewe
Total phenolics and antioxidant capacity of cocoa pulp: processing and storage study
Cocoa pulp, the white mucilage that surrounds cocoa beans, is the main substrate in cocoa bean fermentation and is rich in macro- and micronutrients. Yet, the presence of phenolics and their antioxidant activity in cocoa pulp has not been explored. The
objectives of this study were to quantify the total phenolics of cocoa pulp by using Folin-Ciocalteu assay and antioxidant activity by using Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) assay as well as Cellular Antioxidant Activity (CAA) assay. The effect of single
and double pasteurization was investigated to better understand the potential health value and subsequently promote the utilization of cocoa pulp. Eight weeks storage studies at 4ºC, 25ºC, and 37ºC were also performed to monitor the stability of phenolics, ORAC
values, and color of pasteurized cocoa pulp. Single and double pasteurization decreased phenolics content of the cocoa pulp by 25% and 38%, respectively, when compared to unpasteurized pulp (103.76±4.79 mg GAE/100 g pulp). The ORAC values were not significantly different between unpasteurized (1871±58 μmol TE/100 g pulp), single (1835±41 μmol TE/100 g pulp), and double pasteurized (1681±157 μmol TE/100 g pulp) pulp. There was a significant increase in the CAA values (EC50) of double pasteurized pulp (59.76±9.26 μmol QE/100g pulp) as compared to unpasteurized pulp (23.71±3.12 μmol QE/100 g pulp). Thus, there was a weak negative correlation between ORAC and CAA values in quantifying the antioxidant activity of cocoa pulp. Overall color differences (ΔE*) relative to unpasteurized pulp were not significantly different between single (11.50±6.64) and double pasteurized pulp (14.96±8.64). Throughout the eight week storage studies, single and double pasteurized pulp showed very little change in the phenolics content and the ORAC values at 4ºC and 25ºC. However, at 37°C, up to 50% relative loss in phenolics content and 40% relative loss in the ORAC values were observed in single pasteurized pulp; whereas double pasteurization resulted in lesser relative loss. Both single and double pasteurized pulp showed the lowest lightness (L*) values when stored at 37ºC, as well as the lowest hue

Splendid Kaudi art - A sustainable enterprise for empowerment of rural women
880-890The Kaudi art is one of the oldest folk art practised among women folk of Northern Karnataka and is also called as Grandmothers‘ art. It is prepared by old and used cloth swatches which unfolds the creativity of woman folk through their magnificent skill and imagination with thousands of stitches which depict the traditional folklore. In recent years this craft is slowly fading due to reduced commercial value and lack of interest among the present young generation. Therefore, revival of Kaudi art through value addition is a need of the hour for its sustainability. Hence, the present study is taken up with the objective for revival and restructure of traditional Kaudi for empowering the rural women and it comprised of historical documentation, restructuring of traditional Kaudi designs with design elements, organization of principles and skill development training programmes for rural women. Variegated home textiles were designed with Kaudi stitches and subjected to consumer acceptability. It was seen that among the home textiles developed, the yoga mat was found to be a trendy item as expressed by the consumers due to its usefulness and comfort properties. It was noticed that the perception towards traditional Kaudi art improved remarkably and consumers were convinced on various aspects viz., product diversification through restructuring, design element, principles of design for production of variegated Kaudi articles and its promotional techniques. Value addition to traditional Kaudi through variegated home textiles was found to be the best means for promotion of Kaudi technique, its sustainability and rural entrepreneur can help to establish start ups and microenterprise with minimum investment

Organizational E-Mentoring and Learning: An Exploratory Study
This article explores the process by which e-mentoring unfolds in organizational settings, emphasizing the crucial role of learning that acts as the intermediate step between mentoring functions and organizational outcomes. Specifically, the authors investigate how e-mentoring functions-career support, psycho-social, and role modeling-support the protégé\u27s learning, and how learning increases organizational commitment of the protégés. Data was collected through an online survey of 59 individuals in two multinational organizations that had mentoring programs. Analysis using SmartPLS 3.0 showed that career and role modeling support are statistically significant predictors of learning, and learning predicts organizational commitment as expected. Contrary to face-to-face mentoring literature, the direct link between the mentoring functions and organizational commitment is not supported. Synthesis, Characterization and Prospects of Applications in Optoelectronic Devices
Light emitting polymers (LEPs) are considered as the second
generation of conducting polymers. A Prototype LEP device based on
electroluminescence emission of poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) was first
assembled in 1990. LEPs have progressed tremendously over the past 20
years. The development of new LEP derivatives are important because
polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) can be used for the manufacture of
next-generation displays and other optoelectronic applications such as lasers,
photovoltaic cells and sensors. Under this circumstance, it is important to
understand thermal, structural, morphological, electrochemical and
