Traces and shards of self-injury: Strange accounting with “Author X”
No full textIn this strange account autoethnography, three or four authors explore their lived experiences with self-injury. Strange accounting is both a post-modern style of text, and a method for keeping identities concealed when risks and secrets are in play. Author X, a post-modern place-keeper for an anonymous author who may or may not have contributed to this manuscript, introduces a new dimension and layer of concealment. With Author X in-play and under erasure, the reader will never be sure if there were three or four authors on this manuscript. Through strange accounting, a post-structuralist/postmodernist frame will be applied to understanding the self-injury experience. We frame self-injury as a social practice and, for some, an everyday norm, while remaining acutely aware of the stigma surrounding the topic of self-injury. Each of us, coupled with Author X, provide the others cover to trace stories of self-injury through the literature, our flesh, and our lives
A 2 h periodic variation in the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1
No full textSpectroscopy of the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1 using the Gran Telescopio Canarias have revealed a ?2 h periodic variability that is present in the three strongest emission lines. We tentatively interpret this variability as due to orbital motion, making it the first indication of the orbital period of Ser X-1. Together with the fact that the emission lines are remarkably narrow, but still resolved, we show that a main-sequence K dwarf together with a canonical 1.4 M? neutron star gives a good description of the system. In this scenario, the most likely place for the emission lines to arise is the accretion disc, instead of a localized region in the binary (such as the irradiated surface or the stream-impact point), and their narrowness is due instead to the low inclination (?10°) of Ser X-1
Gamma-ray and X-ray imageries by incoherent holography
No full text학위논문(석사) - 한국과학기술원 : 물리학과, 1977.2, [ [iii], 63 p. ]본 실험에서는 먼저 중심반경이 1cm이고 전체직경이 23cm인 Fresnel zone plate 를 Kent 지 위에 먹물로 그린 다음 이것을 사직간판에 축소하여 사용하였다. 이것을 이용하여 이의 특성을 수은등을 이용하여 조사하였다. 이때 off-axis zone plate 즉 zone plate 의 중심부에서 벗어난 부분을 사용하게 되면 회절되지 않은 빚으로 부터 상을 분리해 낼 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 이 zone plate 를 이용하여 스펙트럼을 분석할 수 있다는 것도 확인하였다.
γ - 선 또는 X - 선 복사체의 hologram 을 얻는 실험에 사용한 Fresnel zone plate 는 면적이 30cmX30cm이고 두께가 2mm인 납판을 epoxy resin 을 사용해 두께 1cm인 acryl 판에 붙인 후중심원의 반경이 1.6cm이고 전체직경이 26.8cm인 Fresnel zone plate였다. 이때 전체 zone 의 수는 70 이며 외곽 zons 의 폭은 0.96mm였다. 이것을 이용하여 γ - 선과 X - 선 복사체에 대한 hologram을 얻었는데, γ - 선 복사체의 hologram 을 얻는 실험에서 γ - 선 검출판으로 의료용 X - 선 사실건판을 사용한 결과 contrast가 좋지않은 hologram을 얻었기 때문에 완전한 상재성은 하지 못했다. 이때 γ - 선 복사체로서는 을 사용하였으며 전체 강도는 2.5mCi 이다.
이 zone plate 를 이용하여 X - 선 복사체 및 산란된 X - 선을 이용한 hologram 작성 실험은 매우 만족스러운 것이었다. 여기서는 이러한 실험장치의 분해능에 대해 이론치와 실험치를 비교해 본 결과 잘 일치가 되었으며 대상의 tomographic image 를 볼수 있다는 것도 확인하였다. 한편 산란된 X - 선을 이용한 hologram 작성 실험 및 상재생에서도 만족스러운 결과를 얻었는데 상재생에서 X - 선 산란물체인 렌즈 holder 의 둥근 윤곽을 확실히 관찰할 수 있었다. 그렇지만 이 때의 분해능이 좋지않은 결과 상세한 세부구조는 볼 수 없었다. X - 선을 이용한 실험결과로 보아 적당한 γ - 선 검출장치만 있다면 γ - 선 복사체에 대해서도 좋은 상을 얻을 수 있을 것으로 확신한다.한국과학기술원 : 물리학과

This study aimed to describe the social values, cultural values, moral values, and religious values in the novel Sang Pemimpi. The research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The data in this study is a form of social values, cultural values, religius values and moral on Sang Pemimpi novel by Andrea Hirata. Data source is Sang Pemimpi novel by Andrea Hirata. Data collection techniques in this study are: (1) to read and understand the Novel Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata, and (2) give coding by underlining sentences containing social values, cultural values and political values in the note of the novel Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata all data regarding speech acts in a novel study. While the steps in analyzing data are: (1) read data that has been recorded, (2) classify or record data for the purpose for researchers based on the novel Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata, (3) interpreting or interpretation of data for the purpose of research is to analyze the novel Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata, and (4) make the conclusion of the study. The results of this study stated that extrinsic elements contained in Sang Pemimpi novel by Andrea Hirata is the value of cultural education, where cultural rights set forth in the novel The Dreamer ie when they are a teenager then it started to work for money. Social educational value, namely the attitude of helping each other like Arai and Mak Cik, and as pastor and Jimbron. the value of religious education that is visible on the pastor and Jimbron, although Jimbron raised by a pastor, but the pastor did not impose his religion on Jimbron. moral and political education value seen in a leader who has no morals and honesty. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh analisis unsur ekstrinsik novel Sang Pemimpi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai sosial, nilai budaya, nilai politik, nilai moral, dan nilai religius dalam novel Sang Pemimpi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Data dalampenelitian iniadalah bentuk nilai sosial, nilai budaya, nilai realigi dan moral dalam novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata. Sumber datanya adalah novelSang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata.Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah: (1) membaca dan memahami Novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata, dan (2) memberi pengkodean dengan menggarisbawahi kalimat-kalimat yang mengandung nilai sosial, nilai budaya, dan nilai politik dalam Mencatat Novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata semua data mengenai tindak tutur dalam novel yang diteliti. Sedangkan langkah-langkah dalam menganalisis datanya adalah: (1) membaca data yang sudah dicatat, (2) mengklasifikasikan atau mencatat data sesuai tujuan peneliti berdasarkan novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata, (3) menginterprestasikan atau penafsiran data dengan tujuan penelitian yaitu menganalisis novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata, dan (4) membuat simpulan penelitian.Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa unsur ekstrinsik yang dapat dalam novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata adalah nilai pendidikan budaya, di mana budaya yang tercantum dalam novel Sang Pemimpi yaitu apabila sudah beranjak remaja maka sudah mulai bekerja untuk mencari uang. nilai pendidikan sosial, yaitu adanya sikap saling tolong menolong seperti Arai dan Mak Cik, dan seperti pendeta dan Jimbron. nilai pendidikan religius yaitu terlihat pada pendeta dan Jimbron, walaupun Jimbron diasuh oleh seorang Pendeta, tetapi pendeta tersebut tidak memaksakan agamanya pada Jimbron. nilai pendidikan moral dan politik terlihat pada seorang pemimpin yang tidak mempunyai moral dan kejujuran.</p

Penelitian ini berjudul Analisis Gaya Bahasa terhadap Novel Sang Pemimpi Karya Andrea Hirata. Masalah yang dikaji dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana implementasi gaya bahasa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia tentang gaya bahasa di SMA Kelas X. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) Gaya bahasa apa saja yang digunakan oleh Andrea Hirata dalam novel Sang Pemimpi yang sesuai dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia tentang gaya bahasa di SMA Kelas X. (2) Gaya bahasa apa yang paling dominan digunakan oleh Andrea Hirata dalam novel Sang Semimpi yang sesuai dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia tentang gaya bahasa di SMA Kelas X. (3) Bagaimana implementasi gaya bahasa dalam novel Sang Pemimpi pada pembelajaran di SMA.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian kualitatif berupa membaca novel Sang Pemimpi secara berulang-ulang, mencatat kalimat-kalimat yang menyatakan pemakaian gaya bahasa dan mengimplementasikan dalam pembelajaran di SMA.
Hasil penelitian mengemukakan : (1) Di dalam novel Sang Pemimpi digunakan beberapa gaya bahasa. Gaya bahasa tersebut yaitu: (a) perbandingan meliputi hiperbola, metonomia, personifikasi, perumpaman, metafora, sinokdoke, alusio, simile, asosiasi, epitet, eponim, dan pars pro toto; (b) perulangan meliputi aliterasi, anafora, anadiplosis, simploke, epizeukis, dan mesodiplosis; (c) pertentangan meliputi litotes, antitesis, dan oksimoron; (d) penegasan meliputi repetisi dan epifora. (2) Gaya bahasa yang paling dominan dipakai dalam novel Sang Pemimpi adalah personifikasi dengan penggunaan data sebanyak 62 kali. (3) Novel Sang Pemimpi ini juga dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia pada jenjang SMA kelas X dengan standar kompetensi kemampuan memahami berbagai hikayat, novel Indonesia, novel terjemahan karena dapat menambah wawasan bagi siswa dalam memahami gaya bahasa yang dipakainya dalam novel Sang Pemimpi
Relations between x-ray timing features and spectral parameters of galactic black hole x-ray binaries

339-4, H 1743-322, and XTE J1650-500, as the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer
(RXTE) observed complete outbursts of these sources. In our study we investigate outbursts that happened before the end of 2009 to make use of the high-energy coverage of the HEXTE detector and select observations that
show a certain type of quasi-periodic oscillations (type-C QPOs). The spectral parameters are derived using the empirical convolution model simpl to model the Comptonized component of the emission together with a disc blackbody for the emission of the accretion disc. Additional spectral features, namely a reflection component, a high-energy cut-off, and excess emission at 6.4 keV, are taken into account. Our investigations confirm the known positive
correlation between photon index and centroid frequency of the QPOs and reveal an anti-correlation between the fraction of up-scattered photons and the QPO frequency. We show that both correlations behave as expected in the “sombrero”
geometry. Furthermore, we find that during outburst decay the correlation between photon index and QPO frequency follow a general track, independent of individual outbursts

Enhanced colour encoding of materials discrimination information for multiple view dual-energy x-ray imaging
No full textThis thesis reports an investigation into dual-energy X-ray discrimination techniques. These techniques are designed to provide colour-coded materials discrimination information in a sequence of perspective images exhibiting sequential parallax. The methods developed are combined with a novel 3D imaging technique employing depth from motion or kinetic depth effect (KDE). This technique when applied to X-ray images is termed KDEX imaging and was developed previously by the university team for luggage screening applications at security checkpoints. A primary motivation for this research is that the dual-energy X-ray techniques, which are routinely incorporated into ‘standard’ 2D luggage scanners, provide relatively crude materials discrimination information. In this work it was critical that robust materials discrimination and colour encoding process was implemented as the sequential parallax exhibited by the KDEX imagery may introduce colour changes, due to the different X-ray beam paths associated with each perspective image. Any introduction of ‘colour noise’ into the resultant image sequences could affect the perception of depth and hinder the ongoing assessment of the potential utility of the dual-energy KDEX technique. Two dual-energy discrimination methods have been developed, termed K-II and W-E respectively. Employing the total amount of attenuation measured at each energy level and the weight fraction of layered structures, a combination of the K-II and the W-E techniques enables the computation and extraction of a target objects’ effective atomic number (Zeff) and its surface density (ρS) in the presence of masking layers
