    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    "Las pérdidas postcosecha del fruto de chile ancho fresco son un problema nacional, por el rápido detrimento que sufre su calidad durante el almacenamiento; por lo cual el presente trabajo tiene por objeto, mantener la calidad de chile ancho fresco por más tiempo mediante refrigeración y atmósfera modificada. El estudio se realizó en el laboratorio de postcosecha de la Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro durante el período agosto-octubre de 1996. Para lo cual se colectaron chiles de un lote comercial, desechando frutos que no reunieran características comerciales, Después fueron lavados con agua y cloro a 50 ppm y puestos en los tratamientos de atmósferas normal, modificada y temperaturas de 5°C, 10°C, 13°, 15°C y ambiente. Los resultados mostraron que la pérdida de peso fue mayor a altas temperaturas y atmósfera normal. El cambio de color se presentó en altas temperaturas independientemente de la atmósfera usada, e inverso al contenido de clorofila. La incidencia de enfermedades fue mayor a altas temperaturas y en atmósfera modificada. El daño por frío se manifestó sólo a 5°C en ambas atmósferas, el contenido de ácidos totales permaneció igual. Por lo cual la temperatura más adecuada para almacenamiento es 10°C y se puede observar que con la atmósfera modificada se puede prolongar el almacenamiento por dos a tres semanas.""The postharvest lost of the fruit of ancho pepper is a national problem, for the quick detriment that suffers their quality during storage, in such way that the present work considers as object, maintain the quality of the ancho pepper for more time, by means of cooling and modified atmosphere. It was carried out study in the postharvest laboratory of the Antonio Narro University, during the period of August - October of 1996. For such reason fruits of a commercial production, were collected discarding fruits that did not have characteristic of commercialization, which were washed with water and chlorine at 50 ppm. and placed in the treatments of normal and modified atmospheres to temperatures of 5 °C, 10 °C, 13°C, 15°C and roon temperature. The results showed that the loss weight was higher in high temperatures and normal atmosphere. The change of color showed at high temperatures, independently of the atmosphere and red coloration was inverse to chlorophill contain. The incidence of disease was incresead at high temperatures and modified atmosphere. The chilling injury was only at 5 °C in both atmospheres, the total acid contain remained equal; for which it concluded that the temperature at 10 °C was the more appropriate, likewise that in interaction with the modified atmosphere could maintein the period of storage of 2 to 3 weeks.

    El biocontrol en cultivos, es sistema ecológicamente eficaz para reducir plagas, enfermedades y malezas (Stefanova et al, 1999). La eficiencia del biocontrol de patógenos en el suelo, se basa en la reducción de las poblaciones de microorganismos fitopatógenos y el aumento de las poblaciones de microorganismos no nocivos para el cultivo (Papavizas G.C. 1985, Ling et al, 2010). Por otra parte, el aumento o decremento de las poblaciones está en función de la disponibilidad de alimento y las condiciones ambientales. Adicional a la resistencia natural que presenta una planta con una nutrición adecuada. Con base en estos principios en el año 2012, se estableció el presente proyecto con el propósito de controlar Fusarium sp, en el cultivo de tomate, cultivado en suelo y bajo una malla o casa sombra de seis has., en el rancho San Cristóbal Municipio de Catorce, SLP. El sistema consiste en cuatro acciones o mecanismos. Primero, la rotación con el cultivo de repollo en los meses de noviembre a marzo. Segunda, la biofumigación, que ocurre al incorporar al suelo los residuos del repollo. Tercera, incremento de competencia espacial, mediante el uso de la materia orgánica residual del repollo y la adición exógena de microorganismos saprofitos o facultativos, como Thichoderma harzianum, Glioclaium virens, Bacillus subtillis entre otros y cuarta, la mejora en la nutrición de la planta, inducidos por los compuestos y iones derivados de la descomposición de la materia orgánica. Con este sistema de biocontrol, durante los cinco ciclos de cultivo realizados del 2012 al 2016, no ha habido necesidad de aplicar Metam, que es el fumigante de uso más generalizado en la región para control de Fusarium, además se observado una reducción en la incidencia y severidad del patógeno. Sin embargo para plantear este sistema como un desarrollo tecnológico, es necesario documentar la síntesis de tiocianatos o productos biofumigantes, la identificación y adaptación de cepas de organismos saprofitos o facultativos a este sistema y la contribución de la adición de los residuos de crucíferas en la nutrición de los cultivos
