Full text linkHillary Clinton och Bernie Sanders var båda två demokratiska politiker som strävade efter det demokratiska partiets nominering. Jag har undersökt två tal som de höll för sina väljare. Clinton höll sitt tal 2015 och Sanders höll sitt tal 2019. Dessa tal var menade att beskriva ambitioner och mål som kandidaterna hade för landet. Båda kandidaterna använde sig av amerikansk historia och båda pratade om Franklin Roosevelt i sina tal.
Båda talen analyseras med hjälp av Klas-Göran Karlssons kategorisering av historiebruk. Till hjälp tas också Tiina Kivinens, Seth Cotlars och Richard J. Ellis beskrivning av historiebruk av amerikanska presidenter. Dessa ramverk används för att analysera Bernie Sanders och Hillary Clintons historiebruk. Retorisk teori används också för att analysera hur de talar till sina åhörare. Talen som de höll innehåller amerikansk historia som är relevant för deras egen tid och för deras egen agenda. Cotlar och Ellis konstaterar att presidenter gärna använder historia för sina egna syften och att den historia som används då nödvändigtvis inte är helt sanningsenlig. Det historiebruk som används av både Sanders och Clinton kan med hjälp av Karlssons kategoriseringar konstateras vara politiskt pedagogiskt historiebruk och ideologiskt historiebruk som används för att ställa sig in hos sina respektive publiker. Likheter och skillnader mellan Sanders och Clintons historiebruk kan delvis förklaras med de rådande omständigheterna som gällde när de höll sina tal men deras olika bakgrunder och ideologiska meningsskiljaktighet kan också ses som faktorer för faktumet att kandidaterna gjorde olika val i sitt historiebruk och i sin retorik.
Genom talen använde Clinton och Sanders sig av Franklin Roosevelt och använde sig av hans historia men de använde sig även av annan historia medan de talade som när Bernie Sanders använde sig av Martin Luther King direkt för att beskriva sin demokratiska socialism medan Hillary Clinton gärna använde historien om sin moders uppväxt för att dra fram de feministiska aspekterna i den amerikanska historien och i hennes kandidatskap. Medan Sanders använde sig extensivt av Roosevelt för att ta lärdom av den tidigare historien för att ge vägledning för honom själv på sätter som Tiina Kivinen beskrivit amerikanska presidenters historiebruk använde Clinton en historia som ibland kunde vara mer osynlig som när hon använde fraseringar och tematik som tidigare använts av hennes man Bill Clinton och Barack Obama. Hon jämförde sig inte heller direkt med någon historisk person, hennes utmaningar var nya men sade sig vilja fortsätta på Bill Clintons, Barack Obamas och Roosevelts projekt för ett bättre land. Sanders jämförde sig direkt med Roosevelt medan han också förespråkade en fortsättning på Roosevelts projekt. De representerade olika synsätt på Roosevelts arv och på den amerikanska historien

The objectives of thisresearch are (1) to analyze the kinds of politeness strategy used by Hillary Clintonand Bernie Sanders in the Democratic political debate, and (2) to analyze how thepoliteness strategies are realized in the political debate.This research used descriptive qualitative method in which the researcherhimself becomes the key instrument. The data were in the form of utteranceswhich contain politeness strategies taken from the script of Democratic politicaldebate between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in Brookylin on April 14,2016. The data were collected by using non participant observation technique.The results of the research show two important points. First, there are threetypes of politeness strategies used by Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in thedemocratic political debate. They are bold-on record strategy, positive politenessstrategy, and negative politeness strategy. Second, in realizing these politenessstrategies, Clinton and Sanders utilize the sub-strategies of each strategy.Keywords: Pragmatic, politeness strategies, political debate.ivABSTRAKMUHAJIR BUTON. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menganalisis jenis-jenis strategikesopanan yang digunakan oleh Hillary Clinton dan Bernie Sanders dalam debatpolitik partai Demokrat, dan (2) menganalisis bagaimana strategi-strategikesopanan tersebut direalisasikan dalam debat politik.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dimana penelitisendiri menjadi instrumen utama. Data penelitian adalah dalam bentuk ujaranyang mengandung strategi-strategi kesopanan yang diambil dari naskah debatpolitik partai Demokrat antara Hillary Clinton dan Bernie Sanders di Brookylinpada tanggal 14 April 2016. Data dikumpulkan menggukan teknik Observasi nonpartisipan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dua hal penting. Pertama, terdapat tiga jenisstrategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh Hillary Clinton dan Bernie Sanders dalamdebat politik partai Demokrat yaitu, strategi bold-on record, strategi kesopananpositive, dan strategi kesopanan negative. The IACD draws from peer-reviewed papers whose research was supported by four separate international aquaculture programs, which were developed by Hillary Egna including: 1. Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture CRSP (1982-1996); 2. Aquaculture CRSP (1996-2008); 3. AquaFish CRSP (2006-2013); and 4. AquaFish Innovation Lab (2013-Present). The IACD was compiled by two AquaFIsh Innovation Lab faculty and a student who reviewed both electronic and hard copies of journal articles. Every publication since 1983 was recorded with relevant publication information, including full names, gender of authors, and author position, with the percentage of unknowns being less than 1%. Gender of authors was recorded by Egna from having a personal connection to the author or by the lead authors themselves. For privacy reasons, some of the publication details were removed
