Comparison of Growth in Pike-Perch (Sander lucioperca) and Hybrids of Pike-Perch (S. lucioperca) × Volga Pike-Perch (S. volgensis)
Growth of intensively cultured pike-perch Sander lucioperca (L.) and hybrids of pike-perch females × Volga pike-perch (S. volgensis Gmelin, 1789) males (1.75 g) were compared in a 35-day experiment. Fish were sorted into three groups (50 fish/aquarium): S. lucioperca grown separately (Group P), hybrids grown separately (Group H), and a mixed group of 25 S. lucioperca (Group Mp) grown together with 25 hybrids (Group Mh). The stocking density was 0.44 g/l. Final body weights were 6.83 g, 6.54 g, 5.17 g, and 4.84 g, and specific growth rates were 3.9%/day, 3.75%/day, 3.1%/day, and 2.89%/day, for groups Mp, P, Mh, and H, respectively. The weight, length, and specific growth rates of the S. lucioperca were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of the hybrids, whether grown separately or together. The feed conversion rate of the hybrids grown separately was significantly higher (1.28 g/g) than all other groups. Further investigation is needed to study the growth performance of larger hybrids, to compare the hybrid with S. volgensis, and to investigate the possibility of cross hybridization

Photolysis of alkylhalodiazirines and direct observation of benzylchlorocarbene in cryogenic matrixes
Photolysis of 3-benzyl-3-chlorodiazirine and its deuterated homologues 3-chloro-3-(phenyldideuteriomethyl)diazirine and 3-chloro-3-((pentadeuteriophenyl)methyl)diazirine has been investigated by means of IR and UV-vis spectroscopy in argon and xenon matrices. Parent benzylchlorocarbene was produced in low yields and could be detected by UV-vis spectroscopy only, while among the photoproducts of the diazirine bis-deuterated at the benzylic positions, (phenyldideuteriomethyl)chlorocarbene was readily detected by IR spectroscopy. It still is a minor product, though, in a mixture of (Z)-beta-chlorostyrene, (E)-beta-chlorostyrene, a distorted styrene, and traces of diazo compound. The benzylchlorocarbenes are very photolabile and also decay thermally at temperatures as low as 10 K. The rearrangement of benzylchlorocarbene-d2 has been monitored using IR spectroscopy. The small temperature dependence of the rate and the curved Arrhenius plot indicate that tunneling is important at low temperatures. After photolysis at 10 K of any of the benzylhalodiazirines, warming the matrix gives rise to a second thermal process which can also be followed by IR spectroscopy. This process is assigned to the relaxation of a beta-halostyrene which is produced from the diazirine in a distorted conformation. Its thermal relaxation, induced by the softening of the matrix at temperatures above 20 K (Ar) or 30 K (Xe), mainly produces (Z)-beta-chlorostyrene. The carbene rearrangement can be distinguished from the relaxation processes by kinetic analysis of the thermal reactions. For comparison, benzylbromodiazirine and methylchlorodiazirine have also been photolyzed in argon matrices. In these two cases, HX elimination is a side reaction.PT: J; CR: AMMANN JR, 1992, J AM CHEM SOC, V114, P7592 ANDREWS L, 1982, J PHYS CHEM-US, V86, P3374 BARNES AJ, 1984, J MOL STRUCT, V113, P161 BELL RP, 1980, TUNNEL EFFECT CHEM BONNEAU R, 1989, J AM CHEM SOC, V111, P5973 BONNEAU R, 1990, LASER CHEM, V10, P267 CHATEAUNEUF JE, 1991, J ORG CHEM, V56, P5942 CRISTOL SJ, 1953, J AM CHEM SOC, V75, P2645 EVANSECK JD, 1990, J AM CHEM SOC, V112, P9148 EVANSECK JD, 1990, J PHYS CHEM-US, V94, P5518 GANZER GA, 1986, J AM CHEM SOC, V108, P1517 GOLDANSKII VI, 1974, SCIENCE, V182, P1344 GRAHAM WH, 1965, J AM CHEM SOC, V87, P4396 GROVENSTEIN E, 1953, J AM CHEM SOC, V75, P2639 HO GJ, 1989, J AM CHEM SOC, V111, P6875 JACKSON JE, 1988, J AM CHEM SOC, V110, P5595 JACKSON JE, 1989, J AM CHEM SOC, V111, P6874 LAVILLA JA, 1989, J AM CHEM SOC, V111, P6877 LAVILLA JA, 1990, TETRAHEDRON LETT, V31, P5109 LINDEN A, 1988, J ORG CHEM, V53, P1085 LIU MTH, 1984, TETRAHEDRON, V40, P887 LIU MTH, 1985, J CHEM SOC CHEM COMM, P982 LIU MTH, 1986, J PHYS CHEM-US, V90, P75 LIU MTH, 1989, J AM CHEM SOC, V111, P6873 LIU MTH, 1989, J CHEM SOC CHEM COMM, P12 LIU MTH, 1989, J ORG CHEM, V54, P486 LIU MTH, 1990, J AM CHEM SOC, V112, P3915 LIU MTH, 1992, J AM CHEM SOC, V114, P3604 MCMAHON RJ, 1987, J AM CHEM SOC, V109, P683 MITCHELL RW, 1967, J MOL SPECTROSC, V22, P165 MIYANO S, 1979, B CHEM SOC JPN, V52, P1197 MODARELLI DA, 1992, J AM CHEM SOC, V114, P7034 MOSS RA, 1970, J AM CHEM SOC, V92, P6951 MOSS RA, 1992, J AM CHEM SOC, V114, P959 NICKON A, 1982, J AM CHEM SOC, V104, P2022 PLATZ MS, 1988, ACCOUNTS CHEM RES, V21, P236 PONG R, 1978, BER BUNSEN PHYS CHEM, V82, P9 REISENAUER HP, 1984, ANGEW CHEM INT EDIT, V23, P641 REISENAUER HP, 1984, ANGEW CHEM, V96, P596 SANDER WW, 1989, J ORG CHEM, V54, P333 SANDER WW, 1989, J ORG CHEM, V54, P4265 SEBURG RA, 1992, J AM CHEM SOC, V114, P7183 SHERIDAN RS, 1988, J AM CHEM SOC, V110, P7563 SIEBRAND W, 1986, ACCOUNTS CHEM RES, V19, P238 SOCRATES G, 1980, INFRARED CHARACTERIS SPONSLER MB, 1989, J AM CHEM SOC, V111, P2240 STEVENS IDR, 1989, TETRAHEDRON LETT, V30, P481 SUGIYAMA MH, 1992, J AM CHEM SOC, V114, P966 TOMIOKA H, 1983, J AM CHEM SOC, V105, P5053 TOMIOKA H, 1984, TETRAHEDRON LETT, V25, P4413 TOMIOKA H, 1986, J CHEM SOC CHEM COMM, P693 VARSANYI G, 1969, VIBRATIONAL SPECTRA WHITE WR, 1992, J ORG CHEM, V57, P2841 WIERLACHER S, 1992, J ORG CHEM, V57, P1051; NR: 54; TC: 30; J9: J AMER CHEM SOC; PG: 11; GA: MC277Source type: Electronic(1

Seeking according to G. H.
The aim of the M.A. thesis The Seeking according to G. H. is to introduce the prose The Passion According to G. H. by Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) and examine this literary work in relation to biblical motives which appear in the novel. First, the author presents Lispectorʼs life and work and mentions her contribution to the Brazilian literary canon. Then he thoroughly analyses and interprets the prose The Passion According to G. H. In the next section, he focuses on selected Biblical motives and shows semantic shifts in the work. The thesis is subsequently concluded by a brief reflection on the function of Biblical themes. Keywords: Clarice Lispector, The Passion According to G. H., Brazilian literature of the twentieth century, intertextuality, biblical theme
H. G. Adler (1910-1988)
The result of my extensive research project is the first comprehensive study on the life and work of H. G. Adler, an important member of the circle around Elias and Veza Canetti, Erich Fried etc., whose ground-breaking scholarly work long overshadowed his reputation as a creative writer. Adler, a German-Jewish writer, born in Prague in 1910, was the inmate of various National Socialist concentration camps (Theresienstadt, Auschwitz) during the Second World War and lived in exile in London from 1947 until his death in 1988.
Both as a scholar and as a creative writer, this prolific author is one of the most interesting and most versatile personalities in postwar history. In addition to publishing seminal works on the Holocaust, he left behind an important and to a large extent unpublished body of work, consisting of narrative prose, poetry and drama as well as scholarly articles and books on history, sociology, politics, psychology, language and literature, music, arts, philosophy, theology and Jewish studies. The works of H. G. Adler address central contemporary concerns, cover a large number of areas of interest (European cultural and intellectual history, 20th century German literature, exile studies, Holocaust research etc.) and shall thus - so I hope - attract considerably more attention in the future.
This monograph attempts to close a major gap in exile studies that has often been complained about in the past. Its most important topical areas are: H. G. Adler's biography, Theresienstadt (Terezín), exile in England, the development and interdependence of scholarly work and literature, H. G. Adler's position amongst writers such as Karl Kraus, Franz Kafka, George Orwell, Elias Canetti and W. G. Sebald, H. G. Adler as Franz Baermann Steiner's literary executor, H. G. Adler's position amongst London émigrés, H. G. Adler and Austria (despite his exile in England, Adler throughout his life remained closely associated with Austrian culture).
This study focuses on Adler's most important and best known works "Theresienstadt 1941-1945" and "Die verheimlichte Wahrheit", books and articles like "Die Dichtung der Prager Schule" and "Der Kampf gegen die 'Endlösung der Judenfrage'", which have hitherto been neglected by academic research, the voluminous autobiographically structured or autobiographically influenced novels "Panorama", "Eine Reise" and "Die unsichtbare Wand" as well as numerous unpublished texts, documents and photographs from Adler's literary estate. It is rounded off by a complete bibliography of H. G. Adler's publication from 1947 to 1988.
The time for a monograph about H. G. Adler is ideal: 2008 - 20th anniversary of H. G. Adler's death; 2010 - H. G. Adler's 100th birthday
