From self assembled monolayers to clickable gold nanoparticles
The aim of the present PhD thesis was the investigation of the behavior of gold nanoparticle stabilizing oligo thioether ligands on gold surfaces and further on to develop a protocol for the directed assembly of mono functionalized gold nanoparticle into defined oligomer structures.
Outline
The present cumulative PhD thesis consists of the following parts:
In the Introduction the research field of gold nanoparticles is presented with to point out their unique electronic and physical properties. The second focus will be on the controlled interlinking and functionalization of gold nanoparticles using click chemistry and their potential applications, which will be submitted as a review article.
Within Concept and Strategy the goals of the research project are introduced and the concepts and outputs of the resulting publications are presented.
The Publications are accumulated with their respective Supporting Information, in the order in which they were prepared:
“Loops versus Stems: Benzylic Sulfide Oligomers Forming Carpet Type Monolayers“ F. Sander, T. Peterle, N. Ballav, F. Wrochem, M. Zharnikov, M. Mayor J. Phys. Chem. C, 2010, 114, 4118 – 4125.
“Add a Third Hook: S-Acetyl Protected Oligophenylene Pyridine Dithiols as Advanced Precursors for Self-Assembled Monolayers“ F. Sander, J. P. Hermes, M. Mayor, H. Hamoudi, M. Zharnikov PCCP, 2013, 15, 2836 – 2846.
“Dumbbells, Trikes and Quads - Click Gold Nanopartricles together“ F. Sander, U. Fluch, J. P. Hermes and M. Mayor Small 2014, 10, 349 – 359.
“Click Chemistry with Gold Nanoparticles – A Tool for Functionalization, Interlinking and Labeling” Fabian Sander and Marcel Mayor, manuscript prepared for submission.
Finally, within Conclusion and Outlook the main results are briefly summarized and further potential research is proposed

What Is It Like to Be a Bat-Author? Viktor Pelevin's Empire V
In this paper, Viktor Pelevin's novel Empire V (2006) is analysed, with its main concern with the status of language, in fiction as well as in contemporary Russian culture. The work is seen as a kind of sequel to Generation 17: whereas that novel predominantly focused on the problem of consciousness, its problematical relation with reality, but expressed this problem in language, in Empire V the problem of language as the form of consciousness is foregrounded; inevitably thus the status of the text we are reading and the relation it has to its author is problematized - as is the relation it has to its reader. It is a text that reflects on what language, its material, does. The possibility is suggested that this novel tries to rind a way out of postmodernism's anxieties about the conscious personality being an illusion, created by his own language.</p

Judith Sander collection 1904-1940s
Materials by and about the opera soprano Judith Sander, including original documents, clippings, photographs and sound recordings.Materials by and about the opera soprano Judith Sander had been donated to the LBI by her sister Eva Ronell and had been placed in the Eva Ronell collection, AR 6452, as well as in the Ring family collection, AR 5080.21 shellac sound discs (78rpm) have been moved to the LBI A/V collection. The opera soprano Judith Sander was born as Gisela Judith Ring in 1904 in Berlin, the daughter of Jakob Ring and his wife Rosa née Lövinson. In the 1930s she embarked on a career in Austria and in Switzerland, before emigrating to England and then moving on to Stamford, Connecticut. Judith Sander and her husband Frank committed suicide together in 1968.In early 1946 Judith Sander produced a series of 78 rpm shellac sound discs at the Melotone Recording Studio in New York, probably to revive her pre-war career that she had enjoyed in Austria and Switzerland. Accompanied by the pianist Otto Herz, she chose a wide range of arias, chansons and other songs from the classical as well as from the popular repertoire.Finding aid available onlinedigitize

Design of Oscillating Spindle Sander
The subject of this bachelor thesis is a design of tabletop oscilating spindle sander. The main goal is to design a tool, which will be robust and reliable and at the same time esthetically interesting. The sander will allow its user to have all the accessories straight on the sander. The thesis is based on an analysis of the current market considering needs of target group. Ergonomic and technical requirements are taken into account too. The final product is intended for home use and commercial use as well
