C-reactive protein kinetics after major surgery
BACKGROUND: Diagnosis of sepsis in the postoperative period is a challenge. Measurements of inflammatory markers, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), have been proposed in medical patients, but the interpretation of these values in surgical patients is more difficult. We evaluated the changes in blood CRP levels and white blood cell count in postoperative patients with and without infection. METHODS: All patients admitted to our 34-bed Department of Intensive Care after major (elective or emergency) cardiac, neuro-, vascular, thoracic, or abdominal surgery during a 4-month period were prospectively included. Patients were screened daily and characterized as infected or noninfected. CRP levels and white blood cell counts were recorded daily in all patients for up to 7 days after the surgical intervention. RESULTS: Of the 151 patients enrolled, 115 underwent elective surgery and 36 emergency surgery; cardiac surgery was performed in 49 patients, neurosurgery in 65, abdominal surgery in 25, vascular surgery in 7, and thoracic surgery in 5. In noninfected patients (n = 117), mean CRP values increased from baseline to postoperative day (POD) 3 (P 100 mg/L, suggest the presence of a postoperative infection. © 2014 International Anesthesia Research Society.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
This very personal text focuses on some common experiences resulting from technological acceleration, experienced through the early loss of expensive or invaluable objects (a suitcase with worn-out wheels which cannot be replaced, technologically-obsolete computer files), since it evokes the way in which, through a poetic rhythm, a more intimate relationship to time lived can be expressed, and an untimely relationship to history can be inscribed. In the first part, André Markowicz, evoking a revelatory moment worthy of Dostoyevsky by observing a blackbird in the Luxemburg Gardens, explains how poetic scansion allowed him, for the first time, to tame the feeling of anxiousness caused by the speed of the world. In the second part, it is the tumultuous historicopolitics which challenges poetic verse: after having quoted a poem by Catullus written at the time of Catalina and read by Alexander Blok, the author comes to Soviet repression, and talks about Ossip Mandelstam’s friendship with a person who had a limp, Natalya Shtempel, and to whom he entrusted his last poems, shortly before being arrested by Stalin. In this ‘love poem’, which takes on a quality that almost resembles a will, Mandelstam transformed the feminine limp into a sign of the ‘soul’ of a sister, dedicated to mourning and to transmission. The syncopated rhythm of this poem, quoted in Russian and then in French, is an ‘acceleration of another genre’. Through its metric and prosodic scansion, rendered sensible by an accented phonetic transcription, a relationship forms between the physical ‘defect’ and the metrical anomaly : with the ‘acceleration of the absent caesura’, the claudication of the woman-sister becomes a kind of flight, and incarnates nothing less than what gives meaning to our lives

Modelowanie czasu trwania firm handlowych w województwie zachodniopomorskim
The aim of this study was to construct models of trading companies’ lifespan, in individual districts of Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship. The author verified whether the impact of the survival time of trading companies on the survival function in general is the same in individual districts. This may inform potential entrepreneurs’ decisions on whether to set up a trading or other company. The Kaplan‑Meier estimator was calculated and a tests verifying similarities of functions of trading companies within the districts was used. Districts were then divided into groups, according to trading companies’ lifespan. Further on, the functions of the intensity of companies’ liquidation for particular districts were analysed. The rankings of districts were compared in terms of the lifespan of trading companies and businesses in total. In the study, the author used REGON registry, containing data about companies established in Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship in 2009–2011. These entities were observed until the end of 2013. It is something to be considered by both decision makers and entrepreneurs, that the probability of liquidation of a trading company is greater than of any other company. Trading activity is prevailing (the highest percentage of all newly established companies are trading companies), however, trading companies are also most in danger of liquidation.Celem przeprowadzonych badań była budowa modelu czasu trwania firm handlowych dla poszczególnych powiatów województwa zachodniopomorskiego. Oszacowano estymator Kaplana‑Meiera oraz zastosowano test weryfikujący podobieństwo funkcji firm handlowych w powiatach. Utworzono grupy powiatów. Zbadano funkcję intensywności likwidacji firm w grupach. Porównano uszeregowania powiatów pod względem czasu trwania firm handlowych i firm ogółem. W badaniu wykorzystano dane z rejestru REGON, dotyczące firm powstałych w województwie zachodniopomorskim w latach 2009–2011 (21 powiatów). Obserwacja trwała do końca 2013 roku.
The thesis addresses the translation and digitization of 1910s-1920s Russian poetry known as “zaum poetry”. The first chapter is a study of Russian zaum poetry from Velimir Hlebnikov, Aleksej Kručënyh and Il’â Zdanevič. The second chapter is an analysis of the reception of zaum poetry in Paris during the 1920s and during the after-war period. The third part is a critical and theoretical study of the problems of translating zaum poetry towards English and French. It includes studies of translations of zaum poetry by Jean-Claude Lanne, Allison Pultz and Gerald Janecek, André Markowicz, Régis Gayraud and Yvan Mignot. The fourth chapter is an analysis of translations of poems from Aleksej Kručënyh and Il’â Zdanevič by the author, as well as an analysis of their digital remediation by the author.Ph. Hidden Layers of Embroidered Stories
This paper describes the creative process of "hidden layers of embroidered stories". It shows the process of searching for answers to the questions of how to translate elements of folk culture into measurable units and how to place traditional Slavic embroidery in the context of algorithms and the digitalised world of today. It shows the process of giving meaning to a newly constructed symbol through the search for an aesthetic form, verbal designation and placement in a composition in folk crafts with seemingly rigid, well-established conventions. The final project of the project - a composition made with the use of cross-stitching encourages recipients to actively find the symbols contained within the embroidery, asking them to solve the puzzle hidden within; the solution of which carries the message of the project's author
Tarėjo Arijono Luko Markovičiaus ir miesto valdžios konfliktas XVI a. vid. Vilniuje.
The article analyses one of the many conflicts in the middle of the 19th century in Vilnius, namely, the conflict between councillor Arianist Lukasz Markowicz (d. after 1583) and the city authorities, i.e. municipal council and Vogt Augustinus Rotundus. The religious interpretation of the conflict predominates in the historiography, as under favourable circumstances Catholics pulled off the radical Protestant. Reading the earlier-known sources in a different way and handling new ones, the author reconstructs the process of the case which lasted more than 30 years, and gives a new interpretation of it. At the end of the research, the conclusion is drawn that the conflict had economical grounds, specifically because Lukasz Markowicz had lost some lawsuits: the biggest losses were a lost house and the monopoly of making vodka. The conflict became a political one (in the context of the city), because Lukasz Markowicz, which was unseated from the council, contested legitimacy of some actions of Augustinus Rotundus himself and the structure of the board. due to political (unseating from the council) and financial (a huge share of his property) losses, Lukasz Markowicz could temporarily become more radical in his religious standpoint, turning to Arianistic beliefs. Nevertheless, there is strong evidence that he was not of the leftist Arianistic views, but rather vice versa. This allows to consider the question of the conformity of words and actions and their evolution in the life of this Arianist
Jis laikomas vienu žymiausių XVI a. 7-ojo dešimtmečio arijonybės centro - Vilniaus - veikėjų. Jis galėjęs būti apie 1567 m. Gardine išleistos lenkiškos arijoniškos knygos autoriumi. Toks teiginys istoriografijoje egzistuoja beveik šimtmetį. Pirmasis apie tai prabilo Alexandras Brückneris. Jis atkreipė dėmesį į 1567 m. rugsėjo 13 d. Augustino Rotundo laišką Stanislovui Hozijui, kuriame Vilniaus vaitas rašo, kad skaitė Gardine spausdintą lenkišką knygą, kurioje neigiama valdžia, skelbiamas turto bendrumas bei luomų lygybė. A. Brückneris spėjo, kad galbūt šitą lenkišką knygą parašė Lukas Mundijus. A hypothesis of historiography of the Reformation that Lukasz Markowicz, the burgomaster of Vilnius, was the author of the Polish Arianistic book published in Gardinas in 1564-1566 is analysed. After discussing the arguments of other authors, a conclusion that the mentioned hypothesis is unsound is drawn. It is not mentioned in the verses of Pedro Ruiz de Moros that the Voight of Vilnius, Augustinus Meleski Rotundus, and Lukasz Markowicz would be discussing in the books or about the books. The saying "supplicum libelum" found in the letters should be translated as "to make an oral request" and not as "a book". This conclusion doesn't mean that Lukasz Markowicz was not able to write a book. It would be useful to explore Lukasz Markowicz's level of education and his conflict with the government of Vilnius

Author and sources of the text of "Cnotliwy Litwin" (1592)
Straipsnyje tiriama 1592 m. pasirodžiusios knygos „Cnotliwy Litwin“ autorystė. „Cnotliwy Litwin“ laikomas pirmuoju Lietuvos istoriografijoje teminiu istorinių dokumentų rinkiniu, kurį sudaro knygos rengėjo tekstas ir 10 dokumentų, pagrindžiančių Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės teises į Livoniją. Knyga yra anoniminė, todėl siekiama nustatyti jos autorystę. Albertas Vijūkas-Kojalavičius knygos autorystę klaidingai priskyrė Krizostomui Volodkevičiui. Jis negalėjo sukurti šio kūrinio, nes Volodkevičius mirė 1642 m. būdamas 51 metų amžiaus. Nustatyti autorystę pagelbėjo 1594 m. Vilniuje išspausdinta knyga „Dialiog ślachcica litewskiego prawdziwy wonjy inflantskiej...“. Joje aprašomi trys Stepono Batoro žygiai prieš Maskvą 1579-1581 m. Lyginamoji analizė parodė, kad abi knygas parašė tas pats autorius. 1594 m. knygoje autorius įrašė savo inicialus „E. P. Philalethes Lituaniae“. Pielgrzymowskio autorystė priskiriama dar bent kelioms knygoms, todėl jis laikytinas vienu produktyviausių XVI a. pabaigos autorių Lietuvos Didžiojoje Kunigaikštystėje. "Cnotliwy Litwin" is considered to be the first thematic collection of historical documents in Lithuanian historiography, consisting of the author's text and 10 documents justifying the rights of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to Livonia. The book is anonymous, which is why the aim is to determine its authorship. Albertas Vijūkas-Kojalavičius mistakenly attributed the book to Chryzostom Wołodkiewicz. He could not have created this work because Wołodkiewicz died in 1642 at the age of 51. A book "Dialog szlachcica litewskiego prawdziwy wojny inflanckiej...", published in Vilnius in 1594, helped to established its authorship. It describes three crusades by Stephen Báthory to Moscow in 1579-1581. Comparative analysis has shown that both books were written by the same author. In 1594, the author wrote his initials "E. P. Philalethes Lituaniae". It probably was Elijah Pielgrzymowski - the adopted son of Wacław Agryppa, to whom he decided to leave his library in 1564. It is known that Pielgrzymowski studied at the University of Königsberg in 1569, and became king's secretary in around 1583. In 1588 and 1590, Sigismund Vasa sent Pielgrzymowski to Livonia to perform various administrative tasks. This explains the knowledge of the Livonian affairs, noticed in the writings of the author of "Cnotliwy Litwin". Pielgrzymowski's authorship is attributed to at least several books, and therefore he is considered to be one of the most productive authors of the end of 16th century in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania
