    Trusted CI webinar: Identifying Vulnerable GitHub Repositories in Scientific Cyberinfrastructure: An Artificial Intelligence Approach

    The scientific cyberinfrastructure community heavily relies on public internet-based systems (e.g., GitHub) to share resources and collaborate. GitHub is one of the most powerful and popular systems for open source collaboration that allows users to share and work on projects in a public space for accelerated development and deployment. Monitoring GitHub for exposed vulnerabilities can save financial cost and prevent misuse and attacks of cyberinfrastructure. Vulnerability scanners that can interface with GitHub directly can be leveraged to conduct such monitoring. This research aims to proactively identify vulnerable communities within scientific cyberinfrastructure. We use social network analysis to construct graphs representing the relationships amongst users and repositories. We leverage prevailing unsupervised graph embedding algorithms to generate graph embeddings that capture the network attributes and nodal features of our repository and user graphs. This enables the clustering of public cyberinfrastructure repositories and users that have similar network attributes and vulnerabilities. Results of this research find that major scientific cyberinfrastructures have vulnerabilities pertaining to secret leakage and insecure coding practices for high-impact genomics research. These results can help organizations address their vulnerable repositories and users in a targeted manner. Speaker Bio: Dr. Sagar Samtani is an Assistant Professor and Grant Thornton Scholar in the Department of Operations and Decision Technologies at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University (2020 – Present). He is also a Fellow within the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR) at IU. Samtani graduated with his Ph.D. in May 2018 from the Artificial Intelligence Lab in University of Arizona’s Management Information Systems (MIS) department from the University of Arizona (UArizona). He also earned his MS in MIS and BSBA in 2014 and 2013, respectively, from UArizona. From 2014 – 2017, Samtani served as a National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarship-for-Service (SFS) Fellow. Samtani’s research centers around Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for Cybersecurity and cyber threat intelligence (CTI). Selected recent topics include deep learning, network science, and text mining approaches for smart vulnerability assessment, scientific cyberinfrastructure security, and Dark Web analytics. Samtani has published over two dozen journal and conference papers on these topics in leading venues such as MIS Quarterly, JMIS, ACM TOPS, IEEE IS, Computers and Security, IEEE Security and Privacy, and others. His research has received nearly $1.8M (in PI and Co-PI roles) from the NSF CICI, CRII, and SaTC-EDU programs. He also serves as a Program Committee member or Program Chair of leading AI for cybersecurity and CTI conferences and workshops, including IEEE S&P Deep Learning Workshop, USENIX ScAINet, ACM CCS AISec, IEEE ISI, IEEE ICDM, and others. He has also served as a Guest Editor on topics pertaining to AI for Cybersecurity at IEEE TDSC and other leading journals. Samtani has won several awards for his research and teaching efforts, including the ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation award in 2019. Samtani has received media attention from outlets such as Miami Herald, Fox, Science Magazine, AAAS, and the Penny Hoarder.     Conference papers of Barc Scientists and engineers : a citation based study

    This paper highlights the importance of conference papers in the scientific communication process. Carried out a citation analysis of 474 (8.52%) conference papers of BARC Scientists and Engineers published during 1999-2007 as per Scopus database. The highest number of papers (117) were published in 2004 and these papers have received the highest (183) number of citations. The average number of papers published per year was 52.66 and the average number of citations per paper was 1.81. Identified highly cited authors and highly cited conference papers. Concludes that conference literature has to be integrated with the databases so as to avoid the missing link in the knowledge development process

    Scientometric Portrait of Homi Jehangir Bhabha: The Father of Indian Nuclear Research Programme

    Quantitative and qualitative analysis with graphic representation of the publication productivity of a scientist facilitates easy and clear perception about the work of a scientist. Bhabha’s scientific work spanned over more than three decades (1933-1967) during which he published 104 publications, which could be classified into nine fields: Interaction of Radiation with Matter (4), Quantum Electrodynamics (5), Mathematical Physics (2), Cosmic Ray Physics (18), Elementary Particle Physics (14), Field Theory (15), General Physics (2), Nuclear Physics (4) and General (40). The highest number of publications (6) were published in 1941, 1945 and 1964 respectively. The average number of publications published per year was 3.05. His productivity coefficient was 0.05 which is a clear indicates that his publication productivity was quite consistent throughout his scientific career. He was single author in 79 of his publications and the main author in 24 publications indicates that he always preferred to work himself and lead the team as ‘mentor’. Bhabha had 22 collaborators during the period. Team of research collaborators working with a successful scientist documents the sociological aspect of history of science while generating knowledge by a leader in a domain. Bhabha became a citable author in 1937. Bhabha received 1211 citations to his 30 publications out of 104 publications. Out of 104, 74 publications did not receive any citations. Out of 74 publications, 40 publications dealt subjects mainly of general interest. Bhabha’s 86.66 percent of cited publications received their first citations within four years of their publication indicates that his publications were noticed immediately and had direct impact among the fellow researchers working all over the world. His overall citation rate was 11.64 per cited publication. The highest citations 389 were received to the domain ‘Cosmic ray physics’. The highest number of citations received were 45 in 1938. His self-citations were only 24 (1.98%) and citations by others were 1187 (98.02%). The highest self citations were six in 1946. Bhabha’s mean diachronous self-citation rate was 1.98. The highest citation rate 28.4 was to the domain ‘Quantum electrodynamics. His single authored publications have received the highest number 863 (71.26%) of citations. Bhabha’s five publications have been cited more than 100 times each. His publications have been cited by the authors working in various diverse fields like nuclear physics, mathematical physics, instrumentation, optics, geophysics and geochemistry, condensed matter physics, applied physics, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering etc., indicating a very diverse influence and impact of Bhabha’s publications. Bhabha’s publications have also been cited by the Nobel laureates like V. L. Ginzberg, Wolfgang Pauli, H. A. Bethe, M. Born, W. Bothe, E. P. Wigner, H. Yukawa, P. M. S. Blackett and C. N. Yang which is an indication of his originality of ideas and high quality of publications

    The world system is undergoing a period of transformation and refragmentation, the disintegration of a single political space into spheres of infl uence formed by the great powers. India, which forms such a sphere around itself, is faced with the problem: a serious economic and military lag behind China, trying, following the ideasof the Indian elites, to achieve hegemony in Southeast and South Asia and the Indian Ocean region. To fend off these attempts, India has put forward two concepts: Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) and the Indo-Pacifi c Oceans Initiative (IPOI). The article is devoted to the analysis of the problems that New Delhi is trying to solve with the help of these concepts, and the consideration of the very process of their implementation. The author notes that both SAGAR and IPOI are not developed strategic documents, but a type of ‘vision’ typical for Indian foreign policy discourse. At the same time, the active assistance provided by India to the countries of the Indian Ocean region within the framework of SAGAR demonstrates that Indiaperceives these countries as part of its sphere of infl uence and is trying to tie them to itself both politically and economically. On the contrary, the concept of ITOI aims to form partnerships and informal alliances with ASEAN countries and Australia. The author believes that Indian regional concepts are of interest to Russia, allowing it to use the Indian experience and to participate in Indian initiatives

    Manufacturing of glass-fiber-reinforced dicyclopentadiene-matrix composites via frontal polymerization

    The student, Sagar Ketan Vyas, accepted the attached license on 2020-03-05 at 10:28.A homogenized reaction-diffusion model is used to study the mechanism of frontal polymerization in glass-fiber-reinforced dicyclopentadiene-matrix composites by studying the effects of the material properties of the reinforcing phase on the velocity, temperature, and width of the reaction front. This model is also nondimensionalized and expressed in a general form in terms of two nondimensional parameters dependent on the material properties and cure kinetics of the composite system. The general nature of this formulation is exploited to generate a large dataset of reaction front velocities for resin chemistries that are similar to dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), which serves as the reference resin in this work. Finally, the homogenized reaction-diffusion model is used to investigate the temperature spike that occurs when two reaction fronts merge.
