Sensitive Detection of Fungicide Folpet by Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering: Experimental and Theoretical Approach
In this work, Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) was employed as an effective detection technique for folpet, characterized by its notable specificity and sensitivity. The investigation involved the use of UV–Vis, Raman, and SERS spectroscopy of folpet at different concentrations for a comprehensive study of plasmon-driven effects such as plasmon resonance, plasmon hybridization, and electric field enhancement resulting in the SERS’ intensification. Specifically, SERS detection of folpet solutions at concentrations below 100 µM is presented in detail by using Ag nanoparticles prepared with hydroxylamine reduction. The experimentation encompassed diverse conditions to optimize the detection process, with Raman spectra acquired for both folpet powder and aqueous solution of folpet at the natural pH. SERS analyses were conducted across a concentration range of 9.5 × 10−8 to 1.61 × 10−4 M, employing 532 nm excitation. The differences in the spectral profiles observed for folpet Raman powder and SERS are ascribed to N–S cleavage; these changes are attributed to plasmon catalysis induced by the used Ag nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was also important in the present analysis to better understand which mechanism of nanoparticles aggregation is more favorable for the SERS detection regarding the formation of hot spots in the suspension. Complementing the experimental data, the molecular structure and theoretical Raman spectra of the folpet molecule were calculated through density functional theory (DFT) methods. The outcomes of these calculations were crucial in the elucidation of folpet’s vibrational modes. The culmination of this research resulted in the successful detection of folpet, achieving a notable limit of detection at 4.78 × 10−8 M. This comprehensive approach amalgamates experimental and theoretical methodologies, offering significant insights into the detection capabilities and molecular characteristics of folpet via SERS analysis
Disociación multifónica infrarroja del bromuro de vinilo: estudio espectroscópico y en tiempo real

De especial interés para nosotros ha sido el estudio de la influencia de las condiciones experimentales de irradiación en la distribución de las poblaciones de los estados fundamental y electrónico de los radicales formados, así como de las temperaturas vibracional y rotacional con que son producidos y la obtención de datos cinéticos de estos radicales. Para alcanzar este fin hemos estudiado la variación de la población de radicales formados siguiendo la evolución temporal de un nivel vibracional del estado fundamental, de una parte con un gas de relleno monoatómico Ar, y de otra en presencia de gas poliatómico frío o calentado vibracionalmente mediante un segundo láser infrarrojo. Con los resultados experimentales obtenidos y la ayuda de un modelo de ecuaciones cinéticas planteado proponemos un esquema que explique los mecanismos que tienen lugar en los procesos de DMFIR del BrV. Los estudios en tiempo real se han realizado mediante la técnica de Fluorescencia Inducida por Láser como herramienta fundamental, complementada por técnicas de Luminiscencia Espontánea Visible e Infrarroja. La determinación de los productos finales se ha realizado mediante Espectroscopia Infrarroja por Transformada de Fourier. Realisation of the metre by using a femtosecond laser frequency comb: applications in optical frequency metrology
The appearance of the frequency comb technology, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2005, has enormously revolutionized the metrology of optical frequencies, eliminating the need for complicated frequency chains. By direct linking to the unit of time, the second, through frequency standards (Cs, Rb), by using femtosecond mode-locked lasers and frequency comb technology, the Spanish Centre of Metrology (CEM) has established a new way of practical realisation of the National Standard of Length, the metre. By stabilising and characterising two free parameters – the repetition frequency fr and the offset frequency f0, the frequency comb generator thereby was successfully put into operation. After such realization, the accuracy of the length unit will be increased in two orders of magnitude, that is 2 × 10−13 instead of 2.1 × 10−11. In this paper we present the results of applying comb generator to the absolute measurement of the three Zeeman stabilized He–Ne lasers operating at 633 nm with a nominal frequency of 473.612 THz. A comparison of these results with those obtained by the current system based on standard iodine stabilized lasers is in good compatibility. A treatment for the evaluation of measurement uncertainty of laser frequency in calibration using a comb in accordance with Guide of Uncertainty Measurement ISO/BIPM is also presented
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
