Pattern storage in qubit arrays using entanglement and quantum annealing
Thesis (M.S.)-- Wichita State University, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dept. of Mathematics, Statistics, and PhysicsMultiqubit arrays can be prepared in any state by adjusting the parameters in the
Hamiltonian that governs their time evolution. In this work we show that these arrays can
be used for pattern storage and recall, using techniques of machine learning. Any shape of a
character or letter can be encoded as a collection of line segments, represented by the pairwise
entanglement between neighboring qubits. We did this in two ways: first, by training the
real time evolution; and second, by training to a ground state as a quantum annealing (QA)
algorithm, by lowering the effective temperature of the system. In the real time training we
succeeded in creating the letters X, M, N, and O, in a four-qubit system, with 2.09 % RMS
error. With the QA we trained fifteen different characters on a four- five-, and then six-qubit
system, with comparable RMS errors. We also showed that the pattern storage was robust
to both classical and quantum noise

Presented to the 20th Annual Symposium on Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) held at the Rhatigan Student Center, Wichita State University, April 26, 2024.Research completed in the Department of Applied Mathematics, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.In High Energy Physics, double Higgs production plays a crucial role in assessing the Higgs selfcoupling (trilinear Higgs coupling), responsible for endowing elementary particles with mass and shaping the Higgs potential. Measuring the trilinear Higgs coupling at proton colliders necessitates high luminosity due to the rarity of processes involving it in the Standard Model. Nonetheless, Muon colliders offer distinct advantages over proton colliders, potentially mitigating some measurement challenges associated with the trilinear Higgs coupling. In my research, I have focused on investigating the production of two Higgs particles through the interaction of highenergy muon beams emitting collinear photons. Specifically, we employed the Effective Photon Approximation (EPA), LePDF, and MuonPDF to establish parton distribution functions (PDFs) and determine the total cross sections of these processes. This analysis was conducted within the framework of the Higgs Triplet Model (HTM). In the HTM, a noteworthy hierarchy is observed between the masses of singly charged Higgs boson and doubly charged Higgs boson, and this influence was thoroughly investigated in the context of this research at the 3 TeV Muon Collider. To perform these calculations, we had to manipulate large analytical expressions and generate numerical results. We utilized the BeoShock high-performance computer available at Wichita State University. In this presentation, I will discuss our results for various scenarios (arXiv:2312.12594). Multi-Higgs boson production via photon fusion at muon colliders in the Triplet Higgs Model
Thesis (Ph.D.)-- Wichita State University, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dept. of Mathematics, Statistics, and PhysicsIn this dissertation, I present predictions for the scattering cross sections of Higgs boson pair and triple production via photon fusion at future muon colliders within the framework of the Higgs Triplet Model, a beyond-the-Standard Model theory that generates neutrino masses. High-energy muon beams can emit collinear photons, leading to the production of multi-Higgs final states through loop-induced processes. Thus, I focus on the processes and via photon fusion, utilizing the Effective Photon Approximation for cross-section predictions. Our analysis includes contributions from singly and doubly charged Higgs bosons and their couplings to CP-even scalars. I have established my own parameter scanning method, as taking the masses of the scalars as inputs is challenging due to model consistency constraints. I compare total cross sections and kinematic distributions with Standard Model predictions, utilizing automated one-loop calculators for numerical amplitude evaluations and Monte Carlo phase-space integrators for collider simulations at center-of-mass energies ranging from 2 TeV to 10 TeV

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
