Stable ischemic heart disease in women: current perspectives
Fatima Samad,1 Anushree Agarwal,2 Zainab Samad3 1Aurora Cardiovascular Services, Aurora Sinai/Aurora St Luke’s Medical Centers, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Milwaukee, WI, 2Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of California San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, 3Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC, USA Abstract: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women accounting for 1 in every 4 female deaths. Pathophysiology of ischemic heart disease in women includes epicardial coronary artery, endothelial dysfunction, coronary vasospasm, plaque erosion and spontaneous coronary artery dissection. Angina is the most common presentation of stable ischemic heart disease (SIHD) in women. Risk factors for SIHD include traditional risks such as older age, obesity (body mass index [BMI] >25 kg/m2), smoking, hypertension, dyslipidemia, cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disease, sedentary lifestyle, family history of premature coronary artery disease, metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus, and nontraditional risk factors, such as gestational diabetes, insulin resistance/polycystic ovarian disease, pregnancy-induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, menopause, mental stress and autoimmune diseases. Diagnostic testing can be used effectively to risk stratify women. Guidelines-directed medical therapy including aspirin, statins, beta-blocker therapy, calcium channel blockers and ranolazine should be instituted for symptom and ischemia management. Despite robust evidence regarding the adverse outcomes seen in women with ischemic heart disease, knowledge gaps exist in several areas. Future research needs to be directed toward a greater understanding of the role of nontraditional risk factors for SIHD in women, gaining deeper insights into the sex differences in therapeutic effects and formulating a sex-specific algorithm for the management of SIHD in women. Fatima Jinnah
Although fifty years have passed since the death of Fatima Jinnah - author, activist and stateswoman known in Pakistan as the 'mother of the nation' - this is the first scholarly biography to tackle her life in full. Her background and contribution to Muslim nationalism under the British Raj, as well as her various efforts to consolidate the state, including a run for president in 1964, are told through previously untapped archival sources. Examining her life in the context of scholarship on South Asia and on women in Islam, Pirbhai assesses Fatima Jinnah's role through the theoretical lens of the colonial 'new woman'. This is essential reading for all those interested in modern South Asian and Islamic history, particularly the themes of gender and colonialism, the roots of Muslim nationalism and the early challenges facing the Pakistani state, as shown through the extraordinary lived experience of its most influential female activist.</jats:p

Actuality of the Messages of Fatima in the Churches of Our Lady of Fatima in Croatia
O tome svjedoče i crkve posvećene Gospi Fatimskoj u kojima Kristovi vjernici svoj život nadahnjuju na fatimskim porukama molitve i pokore, obraćenja i mira. A hundred years after the events at Fatima, the messages from Our Lady of Fatima are present and active among the faithful Croatians. This is evident through the amount of churches dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, in which Christ’s believers are inspired by the Fatima messages of prayer and penance, conversion and peace. In this article, the author presents these churches and remarks on the acceptance of the messages of Our Lady of Fatima in them over time. In the introduction, he writes about the arrival of news regarding the Fatima events to the Croatian territory, the start of the pilgrimage of believers in Fatima and the beginning and delving devotion to Our Lady of Fatima among Croatian Catholics. This is evident through the construction of churches, chapels, and small chapels in her honour. In the conclusion, he evaluates the acceptance and actualization of Fatima’s messages in these churches and their influence on the Marian devotion in the Croatian regions

In the article the author analyses Leon Lovrenčić’s Marian sermons, published in 1957 in the collection entitled Imakulata, by focusing on how they discuss apparitions of our Lady in Fatima, Fatima messages, and events related to them. The introductory part sketches the life and work of Leon Lovrenčić, while the central part of the article describes the collection of published sermons, Imakulata, and the notebook of the same title from which these sermons were taken over. This is followed by an account of essential characteristics of Lovrenčić’s sermons and an overview of his discourse on Fatima and Fatima events. In this last section the author also takes into account unpublished sermons from the notebook Imakulata that is preserved in the legacy of Leon Lovrenčić in the Franciscan monastery on Kaptol and from which published sermons have been taken over.
