Among my favorite kids' books. What a potpourri of stuff! Often delightfully illustrated. Each volume has from two to seven copyrights. One Aesop's fable per volume (except for Volume 4) by various writers and illustrators. There is a crow and fox on the inside covers, but no such fable here. Hmmm.... This volume contains LM in verse by Jeffreys Taylor. This is a hardbound book (hard cover)John Martin and Jeffreys Taylo

The introduction and evaluation of a consultant led formative OSCE (F-OSCE)
This article was migrated. The article was not marked as recommended. Background & AimsThe use of OSCEs as a tool to examine students has been extensively evaluated and they are now seen as the gold standard in examination tools in the examination of medical and allied health students throughout the world. As part of the Child Health attachment at Swansea University Medical School, a formative OSCE has been introduced as a teaching method. This also aids in exposing students to an OSCE in a non-simulated Paediatric environment for the first time. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether students find the formative OSCE a helpful teaching tool.MethodsAn online questionnaire was send to students following their five week specialty attachment. Responses to the survey were voluntary and anonymous. The survey explored student's attitudes before and after the formative OSCE.Results47 students responded out of 69. Overall, students reported a high level of satisfaction with the formative OSCE. 95% found it useful to their learning, with 89 % stating their knowledge improved following the formative OSCE. 100% described the feedback they received immediately following their OSCE as helpful while 65% reported feeling anxious prior to their OSCE.ConclusionIt can be concluded the formative OSCE was a successful aid to assess students. Majority reported positive experiences and felt that the formative OSCE aided their learning. Students suggested similar assessments would be beneficial in other specialty attachments. Formative OSCE's, when conducted in ideal environment, can fulfill both regulatory and supervisory requirements.</ns4:p
Reliable dual tensor model estimation in single and crossing fibers based on jeffreys prior
Purpose This paper presents and studies a framework for reliable modeling of diffusion MRI using a data-acquisition adaptive prior. Methods Automated relevance determination estimates the mean of the posterior distribution of a rank-2 dual tensor model exploiting Jeffreys prior (JARD). This data-acquisition prior is based on the Fisher information matrix and enables the assessment whether two tensors are mandatory to describe the data. The method is compared to Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) of the dual tensor model and to FSL's ball-and-stick approach. Results Monte Carlo experiments demonstrated that JARD's volume fractions correlated well with the ground truth for single and crossing fiber configurations. In single fiber configurations JARD automatically reduced the volume fraction of one compartment to (almost) zero. The variance in fractional anisotropy (FA) of the main tensor component was thereby reduced compared to MLE. JARD and MLE gave a comparable outcome in data simulating crossing fibers. On brain data, JARD yielded a smaller spread in FA along the corpus callosum compared to MLE. Tract-based spatial statistics demonstrated a higher sensitivity in detecting age-related white matter atrophy using JARD compared to both MLE and the ball-and-stick approach. Conclusions The proposed framework offers accurate and precise estimation of diffusion properties in single and dual fiber regions

Political celebrities and elite politics in contemporary China
© 2015, The Author(s) 2015. This article examines the rise of celebrity politics in mainland China. It outlines some typologies of Western celebrity politics and considers whether equivalent forms exist in China. It then examines the rise of Chinese politician celebrities and celebrity involvement in the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. An examination of celebrity participation in these forums shows that celebrity politics in China chiefly functions to support government policies, but also reveals a broadening of elite networks and the capacity of those networks to generate public discussion of alternative policies and politics. Rather than supporting claims that celebrity politics is spectacular or theatrical, it demonstrates instead the connections between celebrity and mundane aspects of Chinese governance
Regulating private affairs in contemporary China: Private investigators and the policing of spousal infidelity
This article examines the recent emergence of China's private investigation industry, focusing on investigators of spousal infidelity. It outlines the professed business rationales of private investigators that target women experiencing marital crises, including claims that they provide a necessary social service, protect women's rights, promote anti-corruption measures, and uphold Chinese law. It also details growing criticisms of China's "infidelity sleuths" for violating Chinese law and citizens' rights. Finally, the article examines some of the proposed responses to the problems associated with private investigators and the policing of infidelity. The demand for such services highlights the laissez-faire position that economic reform has increasingly forced China's governmental authorities to assume with regard to regulating the private affairs of Chinese citizens. © The Author(s) 2010
