La Méditerranéité dans l’oeuvre de Ezza Agha Malak.: Une méditerranéité féminine
The novels of the Franco-Lebanese women Writer Ezza Agha Malak is characterized by two essential paradigms: on the one hand, the Lebanese Mediterranean or the extreme Mediterranean, this is what is called contemporary Lebanonism, and on the other hand, the western Mediterranean to the antipode of the Beirut and Tripoli Mediterranean. This concept of a Mediterranean literature, or rather of a mediterraneanness to be revealed, animates all fictions of Ezza Agha Malak. I use the concept of mediterraneanness at Ezza Agha Malak’s novels to appeal to modern purposes in the Mediterranean literature of the extreme contemporary. It is a new discourse in the current geopolitical context with a critical objective. The references to the Mediterranean become identitary discourse for the author who furthermore maintains a feminine discourse. The writing of Ezza Agha Malak is a feminine writing, in addition, that of an oriental femininity.
On names in Mažuranić’s epic The Death of Smail-Agha Čengić (Smrt Smail-age Čengića)
Starting from his overall lexicographic approach to Mažuranić’s epic The Death of Smail-Agha Čengić, the author focuses his attention here on the analysis of its corpus of names. Most studies of the epic to date have not paid special attention to the onomastic material although it was partly incorporated into Benešić’s Dictionary of the Croatian Literary Language. The author believes that a dictionary of words used in an individual literary work or in complete works of an author, i.e. a Writer’s Dictionary, should contain all the words with their meanings, including proper names (anthroponyms, place names and ethnonyms), especially since proper names as a category do not rank very low on a frequency scale. Even if a name appeared only once in a given work (e.g. in Mažuranić’s The Death of Smail-Agha Čengić), it should nevertheless be included in a dictionary. In compiling a complete dictionary of Mažuranić’s poem The Death of Smail- Agha Čengić, the author has found that the poem contains slightly less than 6.000 words (including all word forms), or 1.661 headwords used in 1.134 verses and 5 cantos of the epic: Agovanje, Noćnik, Četa, Harač and Kob. The corpus contains approximately eighty forms of onomastic names and their adjectival derivations, which can be considered as onomastic headwords. The author lists names in the alphabetical order together with the number of their occurrences and variants (in brackets), thus presenting their collocations as well. They will subsequently be listed according to semantic categories and frequency
Fieldwork Guidelines for Archaeology Officers
The identities of nations and countries depend on the culture, history, beliefs, faith and
religion of the people of those countries. Therefore, in order to express the identity and
personality of human beings and countries, we must go to history and historians, culture and
cultural figures, and knowledge and scholars of the relevant countries and people.
Therefore, to understand and document the history and culture of the country in systematic
way, these Guidelines for Archaeological Officers has been prepared so to undertake the
archaeological activities according to international standards. This book will highlight the legal
aspects of archaeological work in Afghanistan, archaeological survey, planning, budgeting,
restoration, conservation, protection of the excavated areas, drafting reports, and
documentation related issues. The author focused on the practical and systematic vision of
archaeological activities as the recent development in agricultural work, urban development
and illegal digging of the sites immensely destroyed the country rich archaeological heritage.
In these pages Dr. Luca M. Olivieri shares with young archaeological officers his experience in
survey, excavation, documentation, site protection, budgeting and legal frameworks. Based
on some best practice examples, this book plans to offer pragmatic assistance to readers, thus
encouraging them to focus on the various practical aspects of a scientific archaeological
fieldwork.
Dr. Anna Filigenzi, Dr. Massimo Vidale and Mrs. Livia Alberti contributed on very important
aspects of the manual. Mr. Ahmadzia Nawrang, Mr. Salim Wak and Mr. Fidah Mohammad
assisted in text correction and translation of Pashto and Dari languages. I sincerely appreciate
the efforts of all my colleagues from AIA who assisted in composing, designing and compiling
it in book form and I pray for more success.
I hope that with the publication of this valuable and extraordinary book, a service has been
made to the scientific and cultural community of the country. I am sure that the Archaeological
officers, students, professors and researchers in the field of archeology in Afghanistan will
definitely benefit from this book.

CPD/ 91070, COM/95212, Email [email protected]; [email protected]: The development and maintenance of a high-quality medical education workforce depend on continuing medical education (CME). Traditionally, CME is delivered face-to-face, but due to COVID-19 and geographical distances, it is challenging to conduct professional development activities for several days. Using a webinar on advancement in medical education in the context of the eastern Mediterranean, we aimed to assess the participants’ perspectives towards the professional development activity using a synchronous learning approach. Methods: We used a cross-sectional survey-based study design. We invited faculty members from King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) and United Arab Emirates University for Health Sciences (UAEU). We assessed their perspectives on the relevance of the content and effectiveness of the activity on their knowledge and skills after the two days’ webinar series. A self-designed questionnaire was administered post-webinar immediately. Open-ended responses were analyzed thematically. Results: One hundred thirty-six registered healthcare professionals attended day 1, and 97 registered participants joined on the second day of the webinar. Most participants appreciated the diversity of the contents, the quality of the presentations, and the expertise of the facilitators. They reported that the content optimized their knowledge and understanding of new concepts such as assessment in simulation teaching, programmatic assessment, insight into the implementation of IPE and EPAs in CBME, and so on. The e-learning platform’s user accessibility, online tutor interaction, and the addition of more scenario-based case studies were all recommended for improvement. Conclusion: Overall the two days webinar series presentations were informative and highlighted the transformation in medical practices. Suggestions to improve the quality of the webinars and content were discussed. Keywords: medical education, professional development, health professionals, webina
Synthesis and investigation of physico-chemical, antibacterial, biomymetic properties of silver and zinc containing hydroxyapatite
In the work we carried out microwave synthesis of modified hydroxyapatites (HA) with different content of ions. A solid solution based on HA remains a single-phase sample when the calcium ions are substituted by silver and zinc ions up to 5 % by weight (0.5 mole fraction). The microstructure parameters, morphology and the particle powders size were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is shown that the modification of НA by silver (AgHA) and zinc (ZnHA) ions increases the size of its particles, the degree of crystallinity, and the pore sizes of the samples while reducing their specific surface and uniformity of their forms. Elemental analysis and distribution of elements over the surface of HA, AgHA, and ZnHA powders were performed by X-ray spectral microanalysis (RSMA). The ratio of Ca/P is within the range of 1.66-1.77 and corresponds to the ratio of Ca/P in stoichiometric HA and the HA entering bone tissue. The ability of AgHA- and ZnHA-substrates to form on their surface a calcium-phosphate layer from the simulated body fluid (SBF) at 37 °C is determined. This ability decreases in the order: in ZnHА it is less than in AgHА, but greater than in HА. The antibacterial activity of the samples was analyzed. The AgHA sample has both bactericidal and persistent bacteriostatic properties in the case of direct contact with Escherichia coli cells
Are Saudi medical students aware of middle east respiratory syndrome coronavirus during an outbreak?
SummaryRecently, an outbreak of MERS-CoV occurred in King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC), Riyadh. This outbreak contributed to the students at the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) becoming more involved in promoting health awareness in their communities. This was a cross-sectional study that evaluated students in the clinical phase of medical school. The data were collected by an online questionnaire. The measurements were obtained using a researcher-administered and a self-reported questionnaire that had been previously validated. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. One hundred and thirty-six students participated and showed good awareness regarding the clinical aspects of MERS, such as etiology, diagnosis, management, and prevention. However, 76% of the students were not aware of the mortality rate. Conversely, this study uncovered a low level of awareness in the basic sciences. Interestingly, fifth year medical students were more familiar with the incubation period than final year students (p-value <0.05). Regarding gender differences, more female students were knowledgeable about the incubation period and the possible asymptomatic presentation of the disease than male students (p-value <0.05). However, male students were more aware of the diagnostic tests for MERS than their female counterparts.Medical students were knowledgeable about the clinical aspects of MERS but were lacking background awareness in the basic sciences
