We describe the fundamental groups of ordered and unordered k-point sets in the n-dimensional complex space C^n generating an affine subspace of fixed dimension

An exploratory investigation into human resource practices and employee retention outcome in the Malaysian ICT industry

No full text
Author name as given on title page: Parveen Kaur Sukhdarshan SinghThis thesis explores the human resource practices and employee turnover problem in several local and international ICT companies in Malaysia. Human resource practices are used as an intervention to investigate the turnover problem because various strategic human resource management (strategic HRM) and IT/ICT employee management studies advocate that companies should invest in employee-friendly and advanced human resource practices that are beneficial for their employees, because employees’ positive responses will benefit the employers eventually, for example, by lowering the companies’ turnover rates. However, by adopting the constructivist paradigm, qualitative research methodology and constructivist grounded theory approach along with interviews with senior managers, Human Resource Managers and ICT employees, this thesis finds that the impact of human resource practices on employees and employers is not as straightforward as what has been claimed in the studies. This thesis discovers three types of human resource practices, i.e. Paternalistic, Formal and Informal, which affect employees and employers in four different ways ranging from mutually benefitting both parties to not benefitting both parties. In addition to the three types of human resource practices, this thesis also discovers four types of employee outcomes and two types of employer outcomes, which when compiled together, provides an in-depth understanding of what is happening in the Malaysian ICT industry in relation to adoption of human resource practices and employee retention outcomes

mRNA-Based Biomarker Identification for Targeted Therapy Development in Pancreatic Cancer

No full text
Pancreatic cancer is one of the highly malignant cancers that have poor prognosis and limited treatment options. The development of targeted therapies is important for improving patient outcomes. In this study, we analyzed the datasets from the GEO database to identify potential mRNA biomarkers for pancreatic cancer. Differentially expressed gene (DEG) analysis was performed in R to identify genes that expressed differentially between tumor and normal samples. TFF1 and LAMC2 emerged as key candidate genes for pancreatic cancer among the identified DEGs. Additionally drugs approved by the FDA were repurposed as an inhibitor against key genes. These findings suggest that these genes play a significant role in pancreatic cancer progression and have the potential to serve as molecular elements for targeted therapies

Saudi firms' performance dynamics: Organizational learning, innovation, and the dual roles of firm size and type

No full text
The objective of this research paper is to propose a robust framework for understanding the correlation between organizational learning, innovation, and the performance of Saudi Arabian firms, encompassing both financial and non-financial aspects. Additionally, the study evaluates how factors such as “firm type” and “firm size” influence organizational learning, innovation, and overall firm performance. For this study, we distributed a questionnaire to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia's private firm employees for a year. Analysis involved 815 complete sets, utilizing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to explore relationships among latent variables via path analysis. Organization learning significantly enhances both financial and non-financial performance. Additionally, innovation positively influences firm performance. The combined impact of organizational learning and innovation strongly influences overall firm performance. Introducing the mediating variable "type of firm" enhances the relationship between organizational learning, innovation, and firm performance, as depicted in Model 2. The result of path analysis shows that “firm size” as moderating variable is significantly negatively related with innovation and firm performance. This study contributes by exploring the interplay of organizational learning, innovation, and their impact on firm performance, particularly within the emerging Saudi context, enhancing existing knowledge.

Drinking water quality monitoring technologies have made significant progress in monitoring water resources and water treatment plants. This paper discusses the adverse effect of microbial contamination and also gives a brief description of the important parameters for drinking water and the technologies currently available used in this field. This paper is focused on studying the requirement for the development of low-cost filter materials that can be suitable as well as economical to be produced on a large-scale for real applications. There are several parameters such as porosity, contact angle, water flux, thickness, microbial activity needed to be focused on in the future to study the transformation of the hydrophilic property on the surface of the water

Urdu poetry and Eco Criticism

Eco-criticism is relatively considered a new term in Urdu literature although a brief review of Urdu literature particularly poetry indicates that environmental problems have always been critically observed by the literary minds. Ecocriticism is a kind of literary criticism that discuss the relationship of the physical environment as a living entity with literature and not just as a background of social dialogue. It is a theoretical technique that was introduced in the 90s in the west, however, Imdad Imam Asar has been considered the earliest critic who used this technique in Urdu literature through his book “KashifulHaqaiq”. Afterwards, Maulvi Muhammad Ismail Merathi used ecological perspectives in their poetry at a time when ecological studies and organizations had yet not been established. Dr. Wazir Agha, Nasir Kazmi, Majeed Amjad, Parveen Shakir and Tariq Naeem pronounced the disturbing effects of deforestation on nature, particularly on birds. Urdu poets mourned the high industrial ambitions of humans which destroyed the environmental beauty and awarded air pollution, global warming, climate change and drought to nature and humans. Poets like Mustafa Zaidi, Zia Jalandhari and others believed that environmental destruction is not limited to the physical aspects only it also disturbed the social behavior of the humans. Some modern poets like KishwarNaheed, Yousaf Zafar and Saeed Aasi associated the decay of humanity with environmental change in their poems and warns humans against it. <!--EndFragment--
